Nigeria plans £5000 visa bond for UK citizens
Three months to the commencement of the £3,000 visa bond regime due to be imposed on Nigerians travelling to the United Kingdom, the Federal Government may have perfected plans to impose a £5,000 visa bond on prospective British citizens visiting Nigeria.
This is in retaliation to the new but controversial immigration policy of the UK scheduled to commence in November 2013.
The Home Office of the United Kingdom, recently classified Nigeria, India, as “high risk” and placed a £3,000 bond on every Nigerian visiting Britain.

Minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said yesterday during the opening of the two-day meeting of Commissioners of Finance and Accountants-General of States, that the federal government can't meet the N92billion being demanded by ASUU.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said
“At present, ASUU wants the Federal Government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances, when the resources are not there, and when we are working to integrate past increases in pensions. We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no work. Since I assumed office, the share of recurrent expenditure in our total budgets had increased astronomically. In fact, recurrent expenditure accounted for about 77.2 per cent of the federal budget and we are now working to re-balance this ratio.
The country is still suffering from the effect of the 2010 increase in salary. Do we want to get to a stage in this country that all the money we earn is used to pay salaries and allowances? If the demands of the university lecturers are met and we continue to pay them salaries and allowances, we will not be able to provide infrastructure in the universities.”
So what does this mean? Students will continue to stay at home?

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two armed bandits, who engaged a police patrol team in a gun duel while trying to rob a Pentecostal Church at Meiran, Ijaiye/Ojokoro Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The spokesperson of Ngozi Braide, Lagos Police, confirmed the incident, praised the policemen for effective neutralising of the robbers. "Osprey, go home." - Okinawa citizens protest against another US Osprey aircraft deployment
The US military resumed the additional controversial deployment of Osprey military aircraft to the southern Japanese island of Okinawa on Monday, amid protests over the move. The protests resulted in clashes between locals and police, Chinese press reported.
About 200 local citizens gathered in front of a gate to US Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa before the arrival of the eight Osprey to protest the continued deployment. Some shouted, "Osprey, go home."

UK fines GTBank For Money Laundering Checks
The United Kingdom-based Financial Conduct Authority has fined the UK subsidiary of the Guaranty Trust Bank over £500,000 for failing to complete thorough anti-money laundering checks on its potential clients from high-risk countries.
The FCA said on Friday that between May 2008 and July 2010, the financial institution had failed to assess potential money-laundering risks, screen customers against sanction lists, establish the objective of the accounts being opened inside their London branch or review the experience of “high risk” accounts, Reuters'report said.

Cyprus police have declared it a suicide case without autopsy. They are claiming he committed suicide by drowning himself. His brother who went to identify Stanley's body said he saw blood stain from his ear, mouth and nose.
The brother insists it's not suicide because Stanley had no reason to commit suicide and wants the guy who threatened him at the party that night investigated. Also, the hotel refused to provide CCTV tapes of that particular day.
