Ogun: Amosun, Daniel clash over ex-gov’s state of origin





The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his immediate predecessor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel on Wednesday traded words over the latter’s state of origin.
The governor, who was on a working tour to Odeda Local Government Area of the state had said while addressing the crowd of party supporters that Daniel was not a native of Ogun State. He claimed the ex-governor was a Nigerian of Isoko extraction in Delta State.

APC members plan mass defection in Ogun, Oyo, Edo



Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress are preparing to ditch the party, following disagreements over the recently concluded ward congresses.
It was learnt that the party’s chapters in Edo, Kaduna, Oyo and Ogun states appeared to be the worst hit, as members had inundated appeal committees with protests over the congresses.
SUNDAY PUNCH gathered in Abuja on Friday that members of the APC in the states were threatening to leave the party.....

6 Naval Officers Pounce on a civilian Teacher, beat to Stupor in Ogun over Irrelevant Argument.



A terrible accident happened at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Onikoko, Adigbe area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital in the early hours of October 30, 2013, Wednesday, when six naval rating officers pounced on one of the civilian teachers in the school and beat him to stupor over a minor argument between them.

Ogun Customs Assures Investors, Businessmen On FDI



The Nigerian Customs Service in Ogun state has assured investors and businesses of international best practices that would attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
The area controller of Customs, Ade Dosunmu also appealed for more support to reduce smuggling in the state. He added that Nigeria Customs Service has been able to facilitate trade which has developed rapidly, attributing the growth to instituting of international best practices. He mentioned that the establishment has been able to generate employment and revenue for the government.

Fola Adeola’s governorship campaign posters Hit Ogun



Campaign posters and banners of the former Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Mr. Fola Adeola, on Wednesday flooded Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.  Surprised residents of the Abeokuta metropolis woke as much as behold the campaign posters and banners announcing Adeola's readiness to join the governorship race in Ogun State on the platform of the newly registered All Progressives Congress.

The development occurred barely monthly after chairmen of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in the 20 local government areas of their state endorsed the incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun for a second term.

Sorrow, tears as young hawker is killed in Ogun village



Why should a young girl suffer so much pain before she was so callously murdered? That is the question that residents of Idimeta village, Ibaragu, on the outskirts of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, are struggling to find an answer to.
Bilikisu Adeyemi, a 16-year-old groundnut hawker, was allegedly raped and then shot dead with a local gun in the community on July 31. The suspected assailant is 20-year-old Ajibawo (other names withheld by us), the son of a local hunter in the village.

GRAPHIC PHOTOS: Six men set ablaze By Landlord in Ogun state for smoking Indian hemp




According to Premium Times, six young men accused of smoking Indian hemp and gambling have been set ablaze in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by a house owner in their area. The landlord, identified as Agba, in Ago-Oko area of the town where the incident occurred, had warned the boys on several occasions to desist from their acts, warnings they ignored.  And one day, just this past Tuesday night August 6th, Agba felt he was god and decided to punish the guys.

Police Kill Kidnapper, Rescue Two Chinese In Ogun



The Ogun State Police Command has rescued two Chinese nationals from kidnappers in Ogijo area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the victims, Sung Jiang She and Zhang Wen Xue, who are employees of Lee Group of Companies, were kidnapped at Odongunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State and taken to a house at Sagamu-Ikorodu Road.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the police were able to trace the kidnappers to their hideouts and a gun duel ensued during which one of the kidnappers was killed.
He said, “Around 3pm on Monday, the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2, Mammam Tsafe, called the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, informing him that two Chinese nationals had been kidnapped at Odongunya, Ikorodu, Lagos state.

Teachers suspend strike In Ogun State



The strike action embarked upon by both the public primary and secondary school teachers in the western Nigerian state of Ogun has been suspended. The teachers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, had directed that all teachers in the public schools across the State should down tools from 1 June, 2013 to press home their demands for welfare enhancement.

One of the grievances of the teachers is non payment by government of the 27.5 peculiar teachers allowance.
In a meeting held today at the office of the Head of Service, Mrs Muibat Adekunle at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta with the representatives of the Union in the State,it was unanimously agreed that the strike action be suspended with immediate effect from today, Friday 21 June, 2013.

In an agreement released after the meeting, the State government has agreed to commence payment of 15 percent of basic salary as Teacher’s Peculiar Allowance to both primary and secondary school teachers the state.

Generator Fume Kills 3 Friends In Agbado, a suburb of Ogun State.





Three friends identified as Saka Adeosun, 15, Kadri Akanbi, 20 and Wale Kola Ola, 18, have died in their sleep after inhaling generator fume.
The incident took place at 109/111, Alakuko Road, Akera area of Agbado, a suburb of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
The three friends were apprentices in a welder and vulcaniser’s shop partitioned with plywood.
They were sleeping in one of the shops and left the generator working on the other side when they died in their sleep after inhaling the fume. The incident, was reported at Ayila Police Station.
Mr. Shoremi Moses, the landlord of the shops where the incident happened, reported to the police that the three youths had died in their sleep.

Fracas In Ogun Assembly as Lawmakers Break Into Pandemonium



There was pandemonium in the hallow chamber of the Ogun State House of Assembly yesterday following attempts by the Speaker, Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, to suspend four members for allegedly infringing on the House rules.
The uproar witnessed on the floor of the House, which resulted in the breaking of the mace, was as a result of the crisis rocking the Assembly over the composition of members of the tenders’ board.
At the plenary yesterday, the Speaker, recalled an alleged unruly behaviour of four lawmakers during the previous sitting.
Adekunbi noted that four members- Hon. Job Akintan (Egbado North II); Hon. Remmy Hazzan (Odogbolu); Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo (Ifo II); and Hon. John Obafemi (Remo North); all walked out on all other members without taking a bow at the previous sitting.

Eight Trucks Burnt In Ogun Cement Factory, Five Escape Death In Crash



About eight articulated vehicles were on Friday burnt in an inferno at the premises of the Gateway Portland Cement factory in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
In another incident, no fewer than five persons were seriously injured when an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus somersaulted and broke through a fence in Oke-Ilewo area of the metropolis near the OPIC Towers on Lalubu Road.
The fire at the cement factory was alleged to have been caused by unknown persons said to have set the bush around the factory on fire.

University Final Year Student, 5 Others Arrested For Kidnapping In Ogun




The Ogun State Vigilance Service, Sunday,  said it had arrested six suspected kidnappers including  a final year student  of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago-Iwoye,  (name withheld) who demanded a sum of N25million ransom from their victim’s family.
Speaking to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Soji Ganzallo said that the suspects had on Thursday trailed one Aremu Peters from his office located at number 86 Ibadan road,Ijebu-Ode, at about 7.00p.m. and subsequently kidnapped him.

Assassins kill 60-year-old woman, 2-year-old grandson in Ogun



Suspected assassins have murdered a 60-year-old woman, Amoke Musuru, and her 2-year-old grandson, in Ago-Oba area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the suspected assassins at about midnight on Sunday broke into the one-room apartment of the woman in the storey building located within the Ajiko compound. The building is a family house that belongs to the victim’s husband’s extended family.
Gaining access into the room while the woman and her grandson were asleep, the suspects smashed the head of the duo with an iron rod, causing prompt death. The rod was left behind.

Virginity Test: Ogun State Government, Police Disagree



Government and the police on Sunday disagreed over the delay in police investigation of the principal of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Rev. Olufunke Aladeojobi, who allegedly conducted virginity tests on pupils of the school.
 A senior police officer attached to the Ogun State Police Command, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told our correspondent on Sunday that the government had yet to hand over Aladeojobi to them.

Explosion Kills Four, Injures 20 In Ogun



No fewer than four persons were Friday feared dead, while 20 others sustained serious injuries in an explosion that rocked a factory in Ijako area of Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that one of the boilers of a distilling company located along the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway caused the explosion which vibration led to the falling of  the perimeter fences of the neighbouring companies.

Three injured in Lagos, Ogun accidents





Three persons sustained varying degree of injuries in separate auto accidents that occurred between Monday night and Tuesday in Ibafo area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State and Maryland, Lagos respectively. 
In the accident that occurred on Tuesday at the Maryland end of Ikorodu Road, an official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and an unidentified person were injured after four vehicles were involved in an accident.

Virginity test: Panel submits report to Ogun today





Members  of rival cult groups clashed in Ketu, Lagos on Saturday and Sunday, vandalising vehicles and robbing residents in the process. 
PUNCH Metro learnt that the clash was due to a long-standing feud between the Eiye Confraternity and another gang known as KK.  It was learnt that a fight broke out in the area during the New Year carnival known as Westside Carnival in which two members of the KK gang were killed.

Day Aged Women In Ogun Community Went Unclad To Protest Invasion By Marauders



A woman’s body accounts for most, if not all of her dignity and that’s why most women respect the sanctity of decent clothing but what happens when a woman, no, women in their numbers, some old enough to be our mothers, others our grand mothers, strip half unclad? That’s what played out last Saturday at Sonde Apon, a rural community in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State.
