Explosion rips through ‘busy area’ in Potiskum




A yet-to-be-identified number of residents might have died in an explosion in a “busy area” of Potiskum, Yobe State, on Tuesday night.  Details of the bombing is still sketchy but our correspondent said many people might have been killed as the area where the explosion went off plays host to a lot of people every day.  Earlier on Monday, suspected Boko Haram members had sacked a military base in the Birni Yadi area before killing no fewer than eight people.  The terrorists reportedly blew off a bridge linking Damaturu, the state capital, through Birni Yadi with Borno and Adamawa states.

At least 11 hurt in explosion, fire in New York's East Harlem




At least 11 people have reportedly been injured after an explosion and a partial building collapse at 116th Street and Park Avenue in New York's Upper Manhattan Wednesday, WABS reports. Harlem Hospital has one patient with heavy trauma and is expecting at least one more.

RT reported earlier that at least four people were injured and taken to a hospital after a building exploded in New York City.

Terrible: Car Incident & Explosion On 3rd Mainland bridge Involving 14-Seater Passenge (Vie*wers discretion)




News just reaching us is that there has been an incident and explosion that's left a 14-seater bus burning towards the end of Third Mainland bridge (Inward Iyana-Oworo). According to eye witnesses, the vehicle lost control because of overload, somersaulted and caught fire.

There have been a couple of injured passengers but thankfully no lost lives reported. The explosion has caused an awful traffic hold-up towards the end of the bridge. Residents around the scene can be seen  using water from the Lagoon in attempts to put out the fire and road safety officers have reportedly been sighted at the accident location.

Explosion Rocks Rivers state Deputy Governor’s office



Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru. Police denied knowledge of the attack. A blast has hit the Rivers State government house, a government spokesperson said. The explosion occurred near the deputy governor, Tele Ikuru’s office in the early hours of Tuesday. There were no casualties, commissioner of information, Ibim Semenitari.

Ms. Semenitari said the explosion is suspected to have occurred after a dynamite was thrown into the building at about 3 am Tuesday.

Father Of Two Kicked The Bucket As Explosion Guts Dangote Cement Plant



Emotion ran pretty high, Wednesday, evening, at the Gboko plant of the Dangote Cement, when an explosion allegedly claimed the live of a father of two and labourer at the factory, one Mr. Solomon Ashir.  In accordance with an eyewitness, the deceased was hit by limestone from the quarry site of the plant which led to his instant death before medical attention could reach him, adding that the incident sparked angry reaction from his colleagues and youths of the host community who barricaded the factory and Makurdi-Gboko road with bonfire in protest against alleged poor safety measures in the plant.

A father Dies As Explosion guts Dangote Cement Plant





“The deceased who was an indigene of the host community and staff of the parking plant of the company was hit by limestone at the quarry after an explosion that occurred when workers at the site were prospecting for raw materials.

“His death sparked angry reaction from fellow workers and youths of the community who in protest took the corpse of the young man to the palace of the traditional ruler of the community, Tyoor Ukpekpe, Chief Ishi Yonguigba.

Syria denies involvement in deadly car bombings in Turkey




Syria denied Turkish accusations on Sunday that it had a hand in twin car bombings that killed more than 40 people in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli on Saturday.
"Syria did not and will never do such a act because our values do not allow this. It is not anyone's right to hurl unfounded accusations," Syrian Information Minister Omran Zubi was quoted as saying on state media.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday that he believed fighters loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad were behind twin car bombings that killed more than 40 people in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli on Saturday.

Half A decade after Ijegun explosion, victims allege neglect





Victims of pipeline explosion at Ijegun, a suburb of Lagos State, say five years after, they have yet to get compensation from the government.
 The incident claimed the lives of 19 persons while no fewer than 250 persons sustained injuries.
It was learnt that the community had sued Lagos State Government, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Petroleum Product Marketing Company for N97bn damages.
However, the community was said to have reconsidered its decision after a traditional ruler intervened to avoid a prolonged legal battle.
At a negotiation  meeting with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the chairman of the Ijegun Fire Victims, Mr. Olaseni Shoewu, said the community decided to withdraw the matter from the court because the government agreed to give financial support to those affected by the inferno.

Firstpost World Nigerian fuel tanker explosion kills at least 36




LAGOS (Reuters) – At least 36 people were killed when a fuel tanker exploded after crashing into a crowded bus in southern Nigeria, officials said on Saturday. The Federal Road Safety Commisson said the crash happened on Friday on the Benin-Ore road linking the commercial hub of Lagos with southeast Nigeria. Three people were injured.
Traffic accidents are common in Nigeria, where roads are bad and safety standards poor.At least 95 people were killed in July last year in southern Nigeria when a petrol tanker crashed and caught fire as people crowded around it to scoop up the fuel.

See Photos of Dozens Killed In Luxurious Bus Explosion In Kano – Viewers Discretion Is seriously advised.



A recent report showed that four dead bodies have been brought in to the accident and emergency ward of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and many men, women and children wounded. Recent report claims that over 60 passengers were killed while dozens got injured following the explosion. Several other casualties have also been evacuated to other hospitals across the town for emergency treatment. The blast affected both passengers in the bus that was about to exit the park and many others within the vicinity of the park. The blast caused a stampede with many people getting hurt and cars crashing. Details are still sketchy with some sources saying the explosion emanated from a car parked beside the bus while others claim it was from within the bus. See more Photos After The Break.

Explosion Kills Four, Injures 20 In Ogun



No fewer than four persons were Friday feared dead, while 20 others sustained serious injuries in an explosion that rocked a factory in Ijako area of Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that one of the boilers of a distilling company located along the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway caused the explosion which vibration led to the falling of  the perimeter fences of the neighbouring companies.

PHOTO: Mysterious Lightning Explosion Kills 7-Month Baby, Traditional Ruler, And 4 Others



7-month-old baby, a traditional healer, and four others died in a mysterious lightning blast on Monday.
The bodies of the dead were burnt while their limbs were strewn all over the place covering a distance of up to 60 metres.  The bodies were removed on Tuesday with the dormitory town awash with speculation on the cause of the mystery blast. The traditional healer and his clients' remains were taken to the General Hospital for post mortem.

Huge Explosion At Jankara Market This Morning







Fireworks storage facility located at Oko Awo in the Jankara market area of Lagos exploded this morning around 9am, injuring several people and destroying several cars. Witnesses said the fire broke after someone mistakenly threw firecracker into the building which hit some unsold fireworks kept there. At least eight other buildings in the area were affected by the fire. Fire fighters and other rescue agencies deployed to the area have managed to calm the situation
