Enugu state First Lady denies being Imprisoned by Gov Chime




Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to accommodate arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the current presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe.

Forbes Africa denies releasing Nigeria's Top 20 Richest Men list



There was a top 20 Richest Men in Nigeria list that made the rounds online last week purportedly released by Forbes. I'm sure some of you saw it. I didn't put it up because I searched Forbes' website and didn't find it there. I eventually found the originator of the list - a blog called Strategic Business Team. Anyway, Forbes Africa wanted to clear the air and have released a statement. Find it after the break.

Oando Plc. reacts to Mr Ibori’s Assets revelation



Oando Plc. has reacted to the revelation that Mr Ibori hid some of his assets in the company and money passed from Oando’s accounts to Ibori’s Swiss accounts.
A three-week confiscation hearing began at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Monday where Sasha, a British prosecutor, told the court that Mr Ibori hid some of his assets in Oando and money passed from the company’s accounts to Ibori’s Swiss accounts.

ASUU denies plan to call off strike



ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described as speculative reports that the strike embarked upon by the union over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it willingly entered into with the union would be called off this Thursday.
National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, told Vanguard that he was surprised to hear that the union was going to call off the strike on Thursday when the issues tabled before government had not been resolved.

Boko Haram Denies Ceasefire With Government



The leader of the Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram denied that it entered into a ceasefire agreement with the government and endorsed an attack last week on a school in northeast Yobe state.
Bloomberg reports that Abubakar Shekau, in a video message sent to reporters on Saturday, denied claims by the Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Turaki this week that a ceasefire was reached on July 8 after talks with the group’s deputy leader, Mohammed Marwan.
“Let me assure you that we will not enter into any truce with these infidels,” Shekau said. “We will not enter into any truce with the Nigerian government.” 
Boko Haram, whose name means “western education is a sin” in the Hausa language, has killed thousands of people in gun and bomb attacks since 2009 in the mainly Muslim North and Abuja in its campaign to establish an Islamic state in Africa’s largest oil producer. Nigeria’s more than 160 million people are roughly split between Christians, predominant in the south, and Muslims, mostly in the north.

UNIBEN student killing Update: DPO denies firing shot that killed student



The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, CSP Carol Afegbai, has denied firing the shot that killed alleged final year student of University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu, on May 27th during a stop and search in Benin. 
According to the Edo State Police PRO, a Russian made double barrel gun with eight rounds of cartridges, two loaded in the gun, were found on Ibrahim (pictured above). Ibrahim's family and friends are protesting his death, denying claims he was an armed robber. Ibrahim was shot on the 27th of May and buried the next day by the police without his family being informed.

Syria denies involvement in deadly car bombings in Turkey




Syria denied Turkish accusations on Sunday that it had a hand in twin car bombings that killed more than 40 people in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli on Saturday.
"Syria did not and will never do such a act because our values do not allow this. It is not anyone's right to hurl unfounded accusations," Syrian Information Minister Omran Zubi was quoted as saying on state media.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday that he believed fighters loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad were behind twin car bombings that killed more than 40 people in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli on Saturday.

Fashola Denies Assaulting Morka’s Driver, Children In Traffic Incidence



The Lagos State Government has denied reports alleging that Governor Babatunde Fashola ordered his police escorts to manhandle the driver and children of the Executive Director of the Social and Economic Rights Action Centre (SERAC) Felix Morka, during a traffic incident on Tuesday.
In a statement, the government spokesman, Hakeem Bello said “the premise and the content of the message are completely false.”
Explaining what transpired on that day, the statement said “On the aforementioned date, at around 3pm, the Governor was returning from a Security meeting at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS) through CMD Road in the Magodo area when his convoy and other road users got blocked by a man who had driven his Jeep with Registration number KU 549 KJA against the flow of traffic. The identity of the owner was later established to be Felix Morka.

Imo Deputy Gov Denies Resignation, Impeachment Rumours



Contrary to widespread reports that the Deputy Goveror of Imo State, Sir Jude Agbaso, has resigned his position over allegations of fraud against him by the State House of Assembly, the embattled deputy has stated that he is still the “validly elected Deputy Governor”.
In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Chief Onyema Opara, in Owerri yesterday entitled “RE:RESIGNATION AND IMPEACHMENT OF DEPUTY GOVERNOR IMO STATE,” Agbaso made his position known on the saga.
“The attention of the Office of the Deputy Government of Imo State has been drawn to rumours making the rounds that His Excellency Sir Jude Agbaso, has resigned from office” the statement started.

Iran denies allegations of organizing spy cell in Nigeria

Iran denied on Friday Nigerian allegations that it had trained militants arrested in Nigeria on charges of planning attacks on U.S. and Israeli targets there.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said such allegations were "made up as the result of the ill will of the enemies of the two countries' good relations", Iranian state television reported.
"Iran and Nigeria have friendly and close relations and despite the vast efforts of the two countries' enemies in recent years relations and cooperations have always improved," he said.

NBC Denies Banning Music Videos After P'Square Lashes Out



The Nigerian Broadcast Commission, NBC, and National Films and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, on Monday denied banning the broadcast of some musical videos by Nigerian artistes.
Mrs Maimuna Jimada, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Commission, disclosed in Abuja that the commission was not aware of the ban.
According to her, NBC was not in charge of banning musical videos. “NBC has not banned any videos as we are not in-charge of placing a ban on music videos.”
