Shocking: Confession Of A DPO About What Goes On In Nigerian Police Stations




For whoever wants to know why inefficiency is the lot of the Nigeria Police, the starting point may be to closely watch the state of things at police stations across the country.


Apart from the poor physical state of many of them, they are largely run on charity.Investigations shows that some of the police stations in Nigeria get as low as N35,000 as allocation from the force headquarters per quarter.

This is the reason why in all the states of the federation, many police stations rely on philanthropic gestures from members of their host communities and proceeds of bribery to function effectively. And that is why inscriptions such as ‘Donated by Welders Association’, ‘Community Development Association’ are constant features on many items and facilities found in many police stations in the country.

DPO Arrested For Almost Beating Sergeant To Death in Ikeja




The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, MAN, Centre Police Station, has been summoned by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko for brutally beating one of his sergeants.  According to reports, the Police Officer, Jimoh Aliu wanted to displine the sergeant John Ismaila for coming late to work.

Without waiting for an explanation, Aliu allegedly pounced on Ismaila and begin to physically attack him. The DPO was said to have beaten the sergeant until he started bleeding from his ears. He then ordered that the sergeant be locked up in the cell.  The sergeant was continually assaulted until he started bleeding from his ears, then passed out in the pool of his own blood. He was then rushed to Ikeja General Hospital.

When asked about the incident, the DPO refused to apologize to the Sergeant, insisting that he was just trying to “discipline the erring sergeant” adding that the man will still “face an orderly room trial.”

UNIBEN student killing Update: DPO denies firing shot that killed student



The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, CSP Carol Afegbai, has denied firing the shot that killed alleged final year student of University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu, on May 27th during a stop and search in Benin. 
According to the Edo State Police PRO, a Russian made double barrel gun with eight rounds of cartridges, two loaded in the gun, were found on Ibrahim (pictured above). Ibrahim's family and friends are protesting his death, denying claims he was an armed robber. Ibrahim was shot on the 27th of May and buried the next day by the police without his family being informed.

Police DPO shot and killed in Kano as she picks child from daycare



Esther Tarimo, a Divisional Police Officer in the Daurawa area of Kano, was this afternoon shot dead by unknown gunmen as she left her child's daycare.  Esther was trailed from her child's daycare where she had gone to pick up her baby. She was attacked and killed before she got home, but her child was not harmed. Security agencies in Kano confirmed the killing but do not know those behind it or why she was killed.

Sokoto state yesterday was shocked as the picture of a DPO jumping a fence in fear of boko haram instead of confronting them was shown on the web . According to the blogospere, this happened in the police station close to Old Market in Sokoto State yesterday.  “At the sound of the armed robbers’ heavy guns, which was like bombs, the DPO and one of his men quickly escaped through the back of the station, thinking they were about to be attacked by the dreaded Boko Haram”

Friends and Family remember youth killed by DPO





Exactly a year today, 27-year-old Ademola Abe strolled to a newsstand few metres to his house at Yaya Abatan, Lagos to read newspapers, but never came back home alive. 
The young man was allegedly shot dead by the then Divisional Police Officer of Pen Cinema, Lagos, Segun Fabunmi, on January 9, 2012 during the protest against fuel subsidy removal. On Tuesday when our correspondent visited Yaya Abatan, the junction where Ademola was shot dead, a bust erected in his memory at the spot reminds passersby of a life lost prematurely.

DPO, 13 Others Killed As JTF Clashes With Gunmen In Yobe





A Division Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Mohammed Garba was yesterday killed when gunmen suspected to be terrorists laid ambush to Potiskum town in Yobe State.
A branch of Unity Bank, telecommunication masts belonging to Etisalat, MTN and Airtel, as well as a police station were also set ablaze by the gunmen using Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.
Thirteen of the alleged terrorists were also said to have died in the gun battle with members of the Joint Task Force.
