Yesterday's Jos Bomb blast: University of Jos loses 15 students



  University of Jos just announced  they lost 15 students at yesterday's twin bomb blasts that left over 200 people dead. Eight of those students were final year medical students.  sad!

Riot at Bowen University over lack of basic amenities




There was riot at Bowen University Iwo in Osun State last night. According to some students, the riot was over what they say is lack of basic amenities like water and light as well as what they term'unnecessary rules & regulations'being made by school management, plus plans to increase their school fees.

The boys destroyed school property, vehicles and vandalized their chaplain's home. As the students were on rampage, the college security personnel fled but the police was eventually called in to calm things down
"Bowenites live by rules, sleep by rules, and eat by rules, but not anymore" one student said

Asari Dokubo Now Runs His Own Private University !!! How many Private Jets ?



The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Muhajid Asari-Dokubo has joined the swelling rank of private university proprietors with his establishment of a university in the neighbouring Republic of Benin.

Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who already owns a soccer academy in the West African country and another one in Abuja, said the university, which will be known as
King Amachree African University, KAAU, had already been accredited to commence degree programmes beginning September 2014.

University Don Urges FG To Dedicate 36 Per Cent of Budget To Education



An educationist, Abiola Awosika on Tuesday urged the federal government to dedicate 35 per cent of its budget to education to ensure that the country meets the international educational standard.
Speaking during a programme on Channels Television, the education professor said she had written an academic article in 1992, recommending that 25 per cent of Nigeria’s budget be dedicated to education because “we had a shortfall and we needed to catch up with the rest of the world”.

Goodluck Jonathan's mum gives two block hostel to University



The president's mother, madam Eunice Ayi Jonathan, yesterday August 10th donated two buildings of 20 self contained flats to Federal University, Otuoke in Bayelsa state. The President, Bayelsa state governor and other dignitaries were at the commissioning yesterday.

Ekiti State University, EKSU sacks six lecturers for plagiarism and s-èxual harassment, Rusticates 300 Students



Authorities of the Ekiti State University, EKSU, Ado-Ekiti, have relieved six academic staff of the appointments for plagiarism, fraudulent practices and s-èxual harassment. The institution's Deputy Registrar, Information, Mr. Ajibade Olubunmi, said in a statement that the list included three senior academic staff who were dismissed for manipulating examination scores, plagiarism and failure to serve the university after being sponsored abroad.

Olubunmi said the institution's Governing Council, after the recommendations of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, also approved the termination of the appointments of three other academic staff for gross academic misconduct, falsification of employment records and s-èxual harassment.
The Olokuta Medium Security Prison in Akure, Ondo State, which recorded a jailbreak, yesterday. He said the university also expelled 24 students “found guilty of committing offences including examination misconduct to being members of unregistered associations in the university.

University Of Uyo in Akwa Ibom Shut down After Students Riot



The University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom state, South south Nigeria has been closed down following students protest over insufficient lecture venues and increase in transport charges from the town campus to its permanent site.

Trouble started on Wednesday afternoon when the students went on peaceful protest asking the university authorities to reverse its decision of increasing the transportation fare from the town campus to its permanent site at Nsukara Offot in the outskirts of Uyo from N100 to N200 per student per day.
A resident of the school community said the students, mainly of Science and Engineering faculties, went on rampage in protest against the relocation of the Science Faculty from the school’s temporary site along Ikpa Road to the permanent site.

Riot at Anambra State University After Two Students Are Shot Dead By Robbers



There was riot in Igbariam campus in Anambra State University this morning. Heard things have died down a bit. According to unconfirmed reports which I am getting from students of the school, who are also sending in photos, armed robbers invaded the students' lodge last night to rob and they ended up shooting quite a few students. One student died last night, while another one who was shot died early this morning in the hospital.

I Have No Regrets Killing My Father - University Dropout (Photo)




An 18-year-old boy, Olanrewaju Kayode-Aremu, who was recently arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for stabbing his 46-year-old father, Victor Kayode-Aremu, to death has said he does not regret his action.The native of Kwara State added that he decided to stab his father to death because he could not lay his hands on poison or a gun which he would have used to kill his father.   PUNCH Metro had reported on May 15, 2013 that the suspect stabbed his father to death at their home located at Langbasa in Ajah.It had also been reported that the suspect was a Geology  student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, but was asked to leave the school due to his poor grades.

Police shoot and kill naked student inside University [PICTURED]



A naked student was shot and killed by police at Alabama college, according to reports. A campus police officer fatally shot the naked student after he was acting erratically and in a threatening manner at the University of South Alabama.
The shooting occurred after officers heard knocking at a window at the campus police station after 1 am. An officer went to investigate and found Gilbert Thomas Collar, an 18-year-old freshman from Wetumpka, Alabama naked and acting erratically, according to information posted on the school website. The message described Collar as muscular.

Covenant University student, Ndubuisi Brown, drowns



 The initial report I got from a few of his friends was that he committed suicide over the weekend but that has been refuted by other students of Covenant University where Ndubuisi Brown was a student. They all say he drowned at Elegushi or Takwa Bay Beach over the weekend.
Ndubuisi was a student of Economics and Development Studies of Covenant University and was a budding photographer. May his soul rest in peace. Ase.... Continue reading After The Break.

Exposed! I Gave Prof Okojie Bribe To Approve My Illegal University




Is any sector in Nigeria free from the monster called corruption? 
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has filed a suit against one Pius Nwachukwu, 47, and his wife, Chika, at a Karu Chief Magistrates’ Court for operating an illegal university. 
But Mr. Nwachukwu shocked the court on Friday when he disclosed that he got temporary approval to run the university from the executive secretary of the NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, after he gave him N20,000...
The NUC is alleging that the couple founded Temple University at Orozo, Abuja, without its approval.

Police Arrest Redeemers University Student Over Death Of Suspected Gay Banker



Homicide detectives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba, have arrested an undergraduate of the Redeemers University, Ogun State, in connection with the brutal murder of a suspected gay banker, Adindu Ohamara.
According to sources, the banker was on April 9, found in a pool of his blood in his room, having been stabbed severally by the suspect.
Six persons were thereafter arrested in connection with the crime by detectives from the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigations Department ,SCID,in Panti, Lagos State.

Police force drunken University students to crawl back to their rooms or be arrested



Police officers stopped four Southwestern Oklahoma University students who were on their way home at 1:30 am after drinking at a house,one hundred yards away. 

The police officers gave the students the option of crawling back to their apartment or be arrested for public intoxication.

Three students chose to crawl the remaining twenty yards to their apartment in order to get the police officers off their backs, but the fourth man 22-year-old Dylan Frizzell refused to crawl so police officers handcuffed Frizzell and arrested him.

Students and soldiers clash at Nasarawa State University, Keffi




 Students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, this morning clashed with soldiers after they protested over not having water for many days on campus. Soldiers were called into the school to restore sanity but things went crazy. They clashed with the students and I hear they may have killed one of them. The soldiers allegedly went to the off campus hostels to harrass and beat up students. The school has been closed down indefinitely as a result of this. The Governor of Nasarawa state, Tanko Almakura, have since advised all students of the school to leave the school premises with immidiate effect till further notice. Niger Delta university student killed during cult initiation




The Bayelsa State police command yesterday announced the killing of a 200- level student of petro-chemical engineering of Niger Delta University, Amasoma, Mr. Tariebi Tyger, during a forceful initiation exercise by some unidentified cult group...


 According to the police, the 21 years old undergraduate was wooed by the cultists but he turned them down. He was later forcefully taken from his hostel and an initiation exercise done. The police public relations officer, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, told Edification sources that though the police had arrested persons suspected to have taken part in the murder, it gathered that the victim passed out during the heavy beating meted out during the initiation and died.

woman charged after allegedly threatening mass shooting in University



A 19-year-old Connecticut woman who prosecutors say threatened a Sandy Hook-style shooting at a community college — allegedly wanting to “one-up” gunman Adam Lanza — faces federal charges.
Amanda Bowden of East Haven was arraigned Wednesday in state Superior Court on a charge of one count of false information and hoaxes, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.  “As alleged, this defendant made a series of threats that described in great detail her intention to carry out a suicidal mass murder at a community college in New Haven,” U.S. Attorney David Fein said in a statement. “All threats of this nature will be viewed as serious by this office and prosecuted to the full extent of federal law.”
