Rivers State releases 300million Naira to fight Ebola in the state




Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi announced today that his administration has released over N300million to fight the Ebola virus in the state.  Amaechi disclosed this while speaking with the Country Director of the World Health Organization, WHO, Mr. Rui Vaz, at the government house in Port Harcourt.

“Whatever it takes for us to overcome Ebola, please, I will do it because it costs more if Ebola is on the loose than if it is contained. So, we are happy that the World Health Organization is here to assist Rivers State. We are happy that the World Health Organization appreciates the dangers of Ebola to our communities. We need to contain Ebola. If there is no cure, then there is containment so that more persons don’t contract it. The Rivers State Government is prepared to take all the responsibility. The citizens are ours,” Amaechi said.

2015: APC begins full reconciliation •As Amaechi visits Atiku




AHEAD the 2015 general election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced full reconciliation among its aggrieved members over its last month national congress, where its first elected national officers emerged.
The party, had immediately after its convention, set up a national reconciliation committee headed by the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, who was saddled with reconciling its aggrieved members to prevent them from defecting to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political partiy as being threatened by majority of them.

The face-off between President Goodluck Jonathan and Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has led to a disagreement within the leadership of the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association as members of the executive committee of the association are divided over who to support.
While some members of the executive committee, led by the national president and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Ike Chinwo are behind Amaechi, others led by the first national vice president, Chief Edward Ngene are queuing behind Jonathan.

Obasanjo, Buhari, Amaechi snub council of state meeting



Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State were among members of the National Council of State who were absent as the council’s meeting started at the Presidential Villa, Abuja at about 10.50am.
Three former military leaders, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) and Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar (retd.), as well as former President Sheu Shagari and Chief Ernest Shonekan, however attended the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking at a tribute event for Nelson Mandela in Lagos on Friday, Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi said the reason political office holders steal is because citizens let them.

"Even the musicians, you're singing about us, the leaders? If you see a thief and you allow him to be stealing, what do you do? You have stoned nobody that's why we are stealing. Who have you stoned? We came out and you started dancing, the oil subsidy, we told you they stole N2.3trillion, what did you do? Instead you're protesting. The oil subsidy that is not reaching the poor, few individuals are going away with the money, you have done nothing, you are mourning Madiba, 95 years.

Amaechi Opens up On Why He Dumped PDP , says "the position I took is for the good of our democracy"




Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has claimed that he joined the All Gradual Progressive Congress in order to protect the folks of his state. Bellow is what he said after G-7 meeting with the APC Party.
“Yes, we have joined APC after the meeting we had with Buhari, Tinubu and the interim Chairman of APC. The governors met on Monday and decided that we must meet with the APC leadership.

Amaechi’ll soon dump PDP – APC



The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Lai Mohammed, on Saturday, said the party was optimistic that the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and other rebel Peoples Democratic Party governors would join APC.
Mohammed told our source that they were still waiting for Amaechi to get back to them after consulting with President Goodluck Jonathan as he promised.

Buhari, Tinubu invite Amaechi to join APC



A former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday renewed their calls on Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi to join the All Progressives Congress. Buhari and Tinubu, who led a team of top APC officials to Port Harcourt for a rally, described Amaechi as an asset to Rivers people and Nigeria.

Presidency dares Amaechi to join APC



The Presidency on Wednesday said Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State was at liberty to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for the opposition All Progressive Congress.
Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, said this in an interview with our correspondent. Gulak was reacting to a statement credited to Amaechi that he would consult Jonathan before joining the APC.

Revealed: Governor Amaechi Hires Private Israeli Security Guards



It has been revelaed the Rivers State Governor, Romtimi Amaechi, has hired private Israeli security guards. Amaechi, who has been having a running battle with the Commissioner of Police in River State often times accusing the CP, Mbu Joseph Mbu of plotting to kill him and his political appointees although he has presented no shred of proof to back up his claims.

Jonathan, Amaechi Share Chopper on Their Way to Patience Mum's Burial



Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state was at the Port Harcourt International Airport to welcome President Goodluck Jonathan and later flew in the same chopper to Okrika town for the burial of the adopted mother of Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

These were joined on the trip by Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson. This fuelled excitement within the political circles, with speculations that President Jonathan and Ameachi, both politically estranged duo will use the joint flight to truly have a heart to heart talk.

APC calls plot to force Amaechi to resign ”last desperate act”




The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the reported plot to abduct, blackmail and force Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers to resign from office, calling it the last desperate act of those who are bent on getting rid of the Governor at all costs.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said that the plot, which was exposed by the Rivers Peoples Forum, should be taken very seriously, against the background of a similar occurrence in the past and the outcry by Gov. Amaechi that his life is in danger.

Rivers State Gov. Rotimi Amaechi, granted SaharaTV an exclusive interview, where he discussed the ongoing feud between him and Nigeria’s first family. He expressed his respect for first lady, Patience Jonathan but also mentioned the inappropriate role he believes she is playing in Rivers State politics: “She (Patience Jonathan) tries to insist that I must tell her what I’m doing in government…She is the wife of the President. I can only respect her”. Gov. Amaechi also explained the controversy between the Nigerian Governor’s Forum and Pres. Goodluck Jonathan. He noted that “We governors.are change agents. We can work with the President tomorrow but we must see a change agenda from him”. The relationship between President Jonathan and Gov. Amaechi began deteriorating in early 2013 because of Gov. Amaechi’s personal political ambitions.

Tukur, Amaechi lock horns again



The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party got messier on Friday with the ruling party asking the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to write a formal letter to the Dr. Bamanga Tukur-led National Executive Council for his suspension to be lifted.
Amaechi, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH, over the weekend has, however, vowed that he would not write the letter.

Nigerian Police bar youths from checking Amaechi's projects



Scores of youths attending an event organised by the Rotary Club with the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, were on Friday barred by policemen from inspecting some state projects in Port Harcourt.
The youths, who were about 600 in number, were said to be waiting for Government House buses to convey them from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology to some of the project sites before armed policemen stormed the place and stopped them from embarking on the planned inspection.
The students were from 11 states of the federation.

Amaechi blames PH airport neglect on rift with Jonathan



Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday accused the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, of abandoning the remodelling of the Port Harcourt International Airport because of his rift with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Amaechi, who said this in an interview withChannels Television, monitored by one of our correspondents, said apart from leaving the airport in deplorable state, the minister  impounded the aircrafts belonging to the state “for no reason.”

Amaechi’s NGF calls for Okonjo-Iweala’s resignation



Members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum have called on the Minister of Finance, who is also the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to resign her appointment if she knew she would not be able to adhere strictly with the Appropriation Act 2013.
They said the non-compliance with the revenue projections of the Federal Government 2013 Budget was also a direct breach of the provisions of the Appropriation Act, 2013.
These decisions were part of the resolutions of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led NGF, which met in Abuja on Tuesday evening.

I want all of you to fight for me –Amaechi



THE Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has called on the people of the state and Nigerians to fight for him and defend the mandate he holds in trust for them.
Amaechi explained that only the people could fight for him in a situation where the police had decided to work against him and threaten the authority given to him by them.

The governor was reacting to the roadblock mounted on Thursday by the police on Forces Avenue in Port Harcourt, a development that denied him access to the Government House for about 30 minutes.
