The gov is fair to all religions — Commissioner
Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere, in this interview with TUNDE ODESOLA, clears the air on the allegation that Governor Rauf Aregbesola has an Islamisation agenda
There are fears that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is planning to Islamise Osun. What is your take on this?
No statement is farther from the truth than this. Religion is a very personal, sentimental and volatile issue. So, we must be mindful of the way we use it. The State of Osun is one of the most peaceful states in the nation and we want it to remain so. Osun, like other states of the South-West, is highly heterogeneous in terms of people of diverse religious beliefs. We have people who worship all forms of gods like Ogun, Sango, Obatala, Iyemoja, Esu, etc. We also have the major dominant religions, Christianity and Islam. In all these diverse forms of worship, the Yoruba have co-existed for years without any religious upheavals. The region has never witnessed any religious crisis owing to the accommodative, tolerant and reasonable nature of the Yoruba. The State of Osun, as the ancestral source of all Yoruba is, for obvious reasons, very rich in culture and tradition.

NASA reveals plan to catch an asteroid
NASA's budget request for the 2014 fiscal year may include plans for an ambitious mission to send a robotic probe into deep space, capture an asteroid and haul it back within the reach of astronaut explorers, according to a press report.
The space agency is apparently including a request for $100 million in its 2014 budget request to help fund the audacious asteroid capture mission, an Aviation Week report said.
The asteroid-retrieval mission was first proposed last year by the Keck Institute for Space Studies at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. That study, released last April, revolved around an Asteroid Capture and Return mission that would snag a 25-foot-wide (7 meters) space rock and place it in high lunar orbit by 2025 — the deadline set by the Obama administration for NASA's human mission to an asteroid.

Impunity, not corruption is Nigeria`s biggest problem – Sanusi
He noted that corruption was a universal problem, but added that other countries were able to attain development because they had adequate punitive structures in place.
The theme of the colloquium, organised to mark the 61st birthday of Tinubu was “Beyond Mergers: A National Movement for Change”.
According to him, corruption is a big issue in the country today as in other parts of the world like Russia, China and others; but why are they eradicating poverty and Nigeria isn’t?
“It is not just corruption. It is the kind of failed interventions that are procured with the proceeds of corruption.
Aregbesola wants to Islamise Osun – CAN
The leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, has accused Governor Rauf Aregbesola of attempting to perpetrate an Islamic agenda in the 22-year-old state. Secretary of the association, Rev. Michael Ajayi, speaks with TUNDE ODESOLA
What informed the allegation that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is perpetrating an Osun Islamisation agenda?
In 2012, there was an intelligence report of the agenda of the Governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to Islamise the state, which he vehemently refuted in his broadcast to the good people of Osun State. He said, “My good people of the State of Osun. As you may be aware, some reports in the advertorial sections of the media concerning our state and my person should give enough room for concern. There is a purported security report alleging that I am working towards Islamising Osun and plotting to secede from Nigeria. The first is patently false, while the second is laughable.”

Supposedly taking a backseat and savouring retirement, he has suddenly bounced back. Almost two and a half years after he stepped aside, he is now the chairman of the newly formed Heritage Bank, a move that has confounded even his critics.

PDP govs compile constitutional breaches against Tukur, others
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party is taking a new turn as governors of the party are reportedly compiling constitutional breaches against the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, and other members of the National Working Committee.
Investigations by our correspondents indicated that the governors were determined to remove the chairman and members of the NWC from office.
Some of the governors, it was further gathered, were angry with the roles being played by some NWC members, who they claimed to have helped to assume office but who later turned around to become their enemies.
2015: North rejects Jonathan as sole PDP aspirant
The North has opposed to the plan by the leadership of the People Democratic Party to choose President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole aspirant for its presidential primaries.
The Arewa Consultative Forum and the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, described the move as undemocratic, stating that it could lead to chaos and collapse of the party.

He however, added that PDP does not have the final say as to who becomes president in 2015.
We won’t extradite Alamieyeseigha –FG
The Federal Government on Friday toldSUNDAY PUNCH that it would not extradite a former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, to the United Kingdom to face money laundering charges.
While reacting to a statement by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, the FG accused the envoy of challenging the sovereignty of the country.
The President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration stated that it was not willing to extradite Alamieyeseigha because the British government did not go through ‘appropriate channels.’
An highly-placed government official who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter said, “The UK cannot dictate to us. The government is not willing to extradite the former governor because of what they (UK) are saying on the pages of newspapers.”
Also, SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the UK request to extradite Alamieyeseigha predated President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Obasanjo, El-Rufai and I — Atiku
Atiku Abubakar was the Vice-President during the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration between 1999 and 2007. The founding member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party shares his experience in the party and the privatisation exercise under his leadership in this online interview with LEKE BAIYEWU
As a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, why did you leave your party for the opposition Action Congress in 2006?
I had to leave because I was pushed to the limit. You know what happened during that period and we don’t have to go through it all over again. A scheme was introduced, by which I and my supporters were removed from the party under the guise of re-registration. Of course, the bigger scheme was to ensure that I did not succeed my boss (Olusegun Obasanjo). You saw how the cards were stacked against me to pursue my presidential aspiration under PDP. They had me suspended from the party, even beyond the length of time permitted by the PDP constitution. The party rejected and flouted all courts orders in respect of my rights as a party member.

Got a New Boyfriend? Check Out ways to Train Him.
Comparing men to animals is nothing derogatory. Even men know (and some of them proudly admit) that there are many animal-like traits in their personality.
At some stage of the relationship you share with your boyfriend, you will realize that he is giving you hard time through his actions and habits.
It is better to learn in advance some good techniques that can actually train him to be a well-behaved boyfriend.
Here are 8 interesting boyfriend training ideas you would love to try.
- Silent Treatment
How would you react to a pet if it behaves badly? Giving silent treatment to pets makes them anxious and concerned. The same rule applies with men as well. Treat them with your silence if he was caught engaged in some undesirable activity. Such a behavior will not only make him realize his mistake, it will also teach you how to be strong and firm while dealing with his wrong doings.
Apple's 'Next Big Thing' Will Be An Innovation, Not An Invention
Lots of people are wondering what Apple will invent next. If it’s true to its own history, it won’t invent a new type of product but will improve on one someone else already brought to market.
I’ve never questioned that Apple is an innovator. Its iPod, iPhone and iPad were all very innovative products. But all of them were improvements of other companies’ products or concepts in the same categories.
The iPod, introduced in October 2001, was not the first digital music player. Diamond Multimedia announced the Rio PMP 300 in 1998, and the Creative Nomad Jukebox and Archos Jukebox came out in 2000. None of these products would have been possible were it not for innovations in storage, compression and battery life from scores of scientists and inventors.

Please, pardon President Jonathan
Nigerians are justifiably outraged at the pardon of Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, ex-governor of Bayelsa State. Alamieyeseigha was governor from May 1999 until December 2005, three months after he was detained in London on charges of money laundering. President Goodluck Jonathan had served under Alamieyeseigha as deputy governor.
Instructively, in August 2005, a month before his arrest, Alamieyeseigha delivered a message, through his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan, at a seminar in Abuja on “Winning the War against Corruption”. The self-styled Governor-General of the Ijaw nation “commended government’s stride with the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Code of Conduct Bureau, and urged the bodies not to ignore the private sector”.

The Average Banknote Contains 26,000 Bacteria; Studies Have Shown
If you thought dirty money was only found in offshore bank accounts, check your wallet instead. But you may want to wash your hands afterward.
Almost 60% of Europeans believe cash is the dirtiest item they come into contact with, ahead of escalator handrails, b*ttons on payment terminals and library books, according to a survey of 1,000 people released on March 25 by Mastercard.
A further 83% of the respondents, taken from 15 countries across Europe, believe cash carries a lot of bacteria. And they are right.

This is not what we envisaged when we struggled to overthrow military dictatorship and restore the rights and dignity of human beings. But whether we like it or not, it has come upon us.”
Murder Of Pipeline Defence Guards: Covering Their Tracks, Police in Lagos Beat ‘Confession’ Out of NSCDC Officer
The Police in Lagos have forced Olanrenju Gbedeogun, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to make a statement that contradicts yesterday’s events where the police attacked officers of the corps, killed two of its officers, and freed some oil pipeline vandals.
Sources at the Owutu Police Station in Ikorodu, Lagos State, informed SaharaReporters that the police authorities embarked on the measure to back-up their claim to the presidency that it was officers of NSCDC which attacked the police, and that the police knew nothing about the death of the two NSCDC men.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police is said to have personally supervised the forced video confession of Gbedeogun.
Earlier in the day, we learned that Gbedeogun was being tortured by the police to force him to provide the contradiction of the corps’ account of yesterday’s events.
