Ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor set to serve half a century jail term in UK



Ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor is to serve his 50-year war crimes sentence in the UK, Justice Minister Jeremy Wright has confirmed. Sweden and Rwanda had also offered to imprison him following the rejection of his appeal last month by a UN-backed special court in The Hague.

It ruled that his convictions had been proved beyond doubt. He was sentenced in May 2012 for aiding rebels who committed atrocities in Sierra Leone during its civil war. Mr Wright made the announcement in a written statement to Parliament.

Cripple gets jail sentence For Raping A Bread Seller In Lagos



This story is a bit unbelievable, how can a crippled man without legs rape an able-bodied woman?
According to PM news, Kundus Kazeem has been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old bread seller at his home in Ajegunle area of Lagos.

Kazeem who claims he had a fee agreement with the bread seller has been charged charged before an Apapa Magistrate’s court. He is now facing a two-count charge of felony and rape under the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Girl gets Six-Hour Jail sentence For Killing Her Rapist Father



A court in Uganda sentenced a teen age girl to a six-hour jail term for killing her rapist father
It was probably one of the most unusual sentences delivered in the country, but the case was just as unusual as it was heartrending.
The Masaka High Court presided over by Lady Justice Margaret Oumo Oguli, Monday heard that 18-year-old girl killed her father on May 8, after he had molested her.


It was not the first time he was doing so. The 58-year-old man had been molesting the daughter repeatedly from the time she was 13 years old.

Federal government of Nigeria approves 5-year jail term and N200, 000 fine for exam cheats



The minister of Education, Prof Ruqayyat Rufai, announced yesterday that students caught from now on cheating during exams will face a five year jail term or N200,000 fine or both.

This decision was reached during the Federal Executive Council weekly meeting that held in Abuja yesterday. The new law states in part...

A magistrate court has ordered that Pastor Philip Ogbebor, Founder and General Overseer of a Pentecostal Church in Benin City, be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison, Oko for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 20-year-old male member of his church and administering secret oaths on him, including; threatening to kill him if he told anyone.

IMAGINE: Saudi Arabia Blogger Faces 600 Lashes, Jail for Insulting Islam!



A Saudi court has sentenced a activist to seven years in prison and 600 lashes for violating the nation’s anti-cybercrime law, Human Rights Watch reported Wednesday.  A Jeddah Criminal Court found Raif Badawi, who has been in prison since June 2012, guilty this week of insulting Islam through his website and in television comments.

Reported Saudi paralysis sentence ‘outrageous,’ rights group says

“This incredibly harsh sentence for a peaceful blogger makes a mockery of Saudi Arabia’s claims that it supports reform and religious dialogue,” said Nadim Houry, the deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “A man who wanted to discuss religion has already been locked up for a year and now faces 600 lashes and seven years in prison.”

His lawyer, Waleed Abu al-Khair, told Human Rights Watch that Judge al-Harbi read the verdict Monday. The court is expected to send him a written notification by August 6. They’ll have 30 days to appeal.

4 Suleja Bombers To Spend The Rest Of Their Lives In Jail.




Four persons out of the six suspected terrorists standing trial before a Federal High Court siting in Abuja and resided by Justice Bilkisu Aliyu, were on Tuesday jailed for life.

One of the suspects however bagged a ten year jail term while the other was discharged and acquitted.

The six were arraigned on a five-count charge in 2011 charged with the April 8, 2011 bombing of the Independent National Electoral Commission. INEC, office in Suleja, Niger State, where 16 died and others injured.

They were also charged with the July 10, 2011 explosions at the All Christians Fellowship church in Suleja, killing three and injuring others; the March 3, 2011 explosion at a political rally in Suleja, where three people died; and the May 23, 2011 explosion in Dakwa Village, Bwari, Abuja, killing three policemen.

Father gets 40 years jail after allowing other men to rap-ё his boy




A man was arrested charged, and convicted after allowing numerous men to rap-e his little boy, according to court proceedings in Indiana. Jail cell illustration Now, the man has been sentenced to 40 years in jail after pleading guilty to child rap-e charges. The man, who was identified by police as an Australian native, was accused of using his little son for publishing online pornography. He has been sentenced in a U.S. court after authorities discovered child porn video streams being downloaded from his computer in Indiana. The 42-year-old, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges related to child exploitation. The Indiana judge said he accepted the plea agreement Friday because the crime was too horrible for a jury trial.

 Federal prosecutor Steve DeBrota said the defendant and his companion took the child to different countries and allowed other men to sexually abuse him. Prosecutors said that the crimes occurred in Australia, the U.S., France and Germany. During Friday’s hearing, the man told the judge he was sorry, and that he loved his son. The man has purchased the child for $8,000 in a foreign country and has used false adoption documents to adopt the child in the U.S. The sexual abuse occurred when the child was as young as 2-years-old. The judge also ordered the man to pay $400,000 in restitution to the abused boy.

Shamed former Italian leader Silvio Berlusconi has been sentenced to seven years in jail for investing in underage s-ex by having an exotic dancer at his infamous bunga bunga parties. The sleazy ex PM, 76, was convicted of giving cash to a prostitute dubbed'Ruby the Heartstealer'inturn for s-ex at his villa – then using his influence to try to cover it up.

The ban on holding office could mean the finish of Berlusconi's two-decade political career.

Muslim man gets 11 years jail after burning Bible



A Muslim man received a harsh prison sentenced after he burned the Bible, according to court proceedings in Egypt.
The Islamic preacher, who is known in Egypt for his hate speeches against Coptic Christians, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for burning a Bible in front of the U.S. embassy during a protest against an anti-Islam movie, last year.
An Egyptian court in Cairo sentenced Ahmed Abdullah on Sunday for insulting religion and for burning of a Bible. He was also fined 3,000 Egyptian pounds, or about $430.
Abdullah’s son was sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of 2,000 Egyptian pounds, or $286 for his role in the Bible burning.

Money Laundering: Ibori Loses Appeal Over 13-Year Jail Term



The jailed former Delta State governor, James Ibori, lost a legal appeal on Thursday against a 13-year prison sentence for embezzling more than $250 million.

Mr Ibori, a founding member of Nigeria’s ruling party and a behind-the-scenes kingmaker who ran Delta State for 8 years, was trying to get his sentence reduced. His lawyers argued that the original judge had indicated the term would be shorter.
Judge Antony Edwards-Stuart rejected that argument at the appeal hearing and also said that money laundering should attract close to the maximum 14-year sentence.

Judge Urges Prison Inmates To Take WASSCE, UTME, Etc. While Serving Their Jail Terms



The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice A.A Philips, has encouraged prison inmates to sit for examinations, such as the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) while serving jail terms, as being imprisoned does not deter them from sitting for such examinations.
Justice Philips, represented by the chief registrar of the Lagos State Judiciary, Mr D.A Safari, made this statement at the launching of an educational facility centre tagged “Prison Knowledge Centre (PKC),” donated by the Zaccheus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Library (ZODML) group, at the Ikoyi Prisons in Lagos, recently.

Woman left her baby to freeze to death on the side of a road, gets Half a Century In Jail



Katie Stockton, 32, faced up to 60 years in prison for the death of the infant, who became known as Baby Crystal around the Rock River Valley after her frozen remains were found. Winnebago County prosecutors dropped 11 remaining murder charges in exchange for her guilty plea in February to a single count of first-degree murder.
Before handing down the sentence, Winnebago County Judge John Truitt allowed testimony about skeletal remains of two other infants found years later in the trunk of Stockton’s car, the Rockford Register Star reported.
Stockton hid her pregnancy and gave birth to the baby in secret on Dec. 17, 2004. Afterward, she stuffed the baby and soiled clothing into an orange shopping bag and placed it along a dead-end road near her parents’ Rockton home.

17-Year-Old Spends Eight Years In Jail For ‘Wandering’



It was a moment of joy recently for the mother of a prison inmate that had been awaiting trial since 2005. Mrs. Maria Emmanuel danced and shouted with joy on the court premises of the Lagos High Court, sitting in Igbosere when Justice Deborah Oluwayemi released her son, Paul Samuel.
Five other awaiting trial inmates were also released by the court. They included Fatai Amidu, Adebayo Owuade, Gabriel Samuel, Mike Ofoje and Lawal Karimu.

Father Gets 5 years jail for slashing the throat of his infant



A man who wanted to punish his wife for cheating decided to slash the throat of their baby.   The man, whose name cannot be released to protect the identity of the child, stabbed his 11-month-old, after becoming enraged at the child's mother.  The 33-year-old father appeared in a Calgary, Alberta court for sentencing last week. He had pleaded guilty earlier to one count of aggravated assault.

In passing his sentence, Judge Mike Dinkel, said:  “In a very cold-blooded and calculating manner he put the child on the floor, took off his clothes and cut him twice. The defendant used the attack on the child to inflict pain to the mother. The child was a tool. It was based on anger, rage and jealousy by the mistaken belief that his wife was cheating. He knew what he was doing with the intent to cause harm.”

Two Bankers Bag 2 Years Jail Term for Fraud



Justice Dije Abdu Aboki on February 21, 2013 convicted and sentenced Funsho Olayele and Ayoade Peter Abiola to two years imprisonment with option of N410, 000 (Four Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) fine each. The first accused was ordered to pay a compensation of N700, 000, while the second accused had already restituted the victim in the course of investigation.

The convicts, both former staff of Intercontinental Bank Plc (now Access Bank Plc) were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on six count charge of conspiracy and misappropriation of funds.

Mother Sentenced To 6 Years In Jail For Burying Her Only Child Alive




A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, sentenced an 18-year-old mother of one, Mrs Adeola Joseph, to six years imprisonment with hard labour for burying her only child alive for three days.

 Presiding Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, held that the convict did not deserve to be in the midst of human beings and looked unperturbed by her criminal action, saying that “the convict is callous and may not change from her devilish act.”

Reps Propose N25 Million Fine And 15-Year Jail Term For Yahoo Yahoo Boys



The House of Representatives has proposed heavy penalties for “Computer misuse and Cybercrimes,” with fines ranging from N5m to N25m for offenders. Convicted persons will also serve jail terms ranging from two to 15 years.
Cybercrime is commonly known as Yahoo Yahoo in Nigeria.
The penalties are contained in amendments proposed to the Criminal Code and the Penal Code. The two bills have already passed second reading at the House and are scheduled for public hearing by the House Committee on Justice headed by Mr. Ali Ahmad.
