Who made the US the policeman of the world? ('Notions of exceptionalism almost always end in tragedy' - analyst)

"History shows that notions of exceptionalism almost always end in tragedy. But I think that is also a function of empire because how you’re going to justify the kinds of actions that the US takes around the world unless it can be couched within the rhetoric of freedom, within the rhetoric of liberty and within the context of so-called deep-promoting democracy. This is how the US does it," Eric Draitser, an independent geopolitical analyst based in New York City and the founder of StopImperialism.com, told The VOR

I Was So Desperate for a child I made My Wife Sleep With My Father

MY wife had s-e̊x with my father so that we could have the baby we both longed for. I so regret agreeing to it.

I am 35, my wife is a year younger. We’ve been married for seven years but have been trying for a baby without success.
We both got checked out and I was told the problem was mine and untreatable. Our only options were sperm donation or adoption.
We decided to go ahead with the donor option. My parents were supportive and willing to help with the cost, but we had no luck. My wife was beside herself and this had an impact on our relationship, and on my work as I found it hard to concentrate.

Electricity distribution companies made N189bn revenue •Afam, Kaduna financial bids to be opened July 31

As of May this year, electricity distribution companies in the country realised N189bn as revenue despite poor supply to consumers.  This was against the N151bn collected as total revenue by the companies in 2011.
This was contained in a document obtained by our correspondent from the Federal Ministry of Power on the achievements of the government in the sector. Speaking on the development at the Ministerial Platform in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, described the revenue rise as a key achievement of his ministry.

The rise in revenue may not be unconnected with the increase in electricity tariff being collected by the distribution companies, as only last week, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission insisted that the fixed electricity charges must increase despite erratic power supply.

How I Carried Amaechi Into Abuja In The Night and Made Him Governor – Nyesom Wike Speaks

For Governor Chibuike Amaechi and his former boy, Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike, the die is cast at last. It is time to bare all and go for the kill. As Wike spoke to Saturday Sun, he spared no word or effort in his vitriolic attack on his political boss who he has been in a running battle with him in the past months.

You and Amaechi had been allies, how and when did things get this bad between you?
I had wanted and avoided in the past to comment on the matter between His Excellency, Governor Chibuike Amaechi and I. I never wanted to make it a press matter. But I have held on for long to the extent that facts are now twisted out of shape.

Post Of The Day: Borders Were made to divide us, not to "protect" us.

President made no single-term promise –Ex-Senate Whip

Former Senate Whip, Senator Kanti Bello, has accused the Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, of telling a lie over his claim that President Goodluck Jonathan agreed to a single term in 2011.
Bello said, as a principal officer of the Senate in 2011, he attended a meeting of governors and lawmakers where the issue of Jonathan’s single term was raised.
The former Senate Whip told our one of correspondents in a telephone interview on Sunday that he personally raised the matter during the said meeting and that Jonathan did not make any promise of serving just one term.
Aliyu had in an interview aired on Liberty Radio, Kaduna, claimed that President Jonathan had agreed to serve for only one term of four years beginning from 2011.
But Bello, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who defected to the Congress for Progressive Change, dismissed Aliyu’s claims.

"Presidential Aide Douglas Should Be Made To Replace Crashed Helicopter" - NDLF

The Nigeria Democratic Liberty Forum (NDLF) has described as a “disgrace” the conduct of government officials in failing to distinguish between official duties and private events.
In a statement issued today, the group said it was appalled by the crass display of impunity by the Goodluck Jonathan administration in the deployment of federal government's military assets for private and social events to the extent that military equipment has become a perk of office.
“The prior use of similar chopper by President Goodluck Jonathan during the burial of his brother in Otueke and the use of a Naval chopper by Presidential aide-Mr Oronto Douglas for his father's burial which resulted in the loss of the Nigerian Navy helicopter is reprehensible,” NDLF said.

The 34-year-old man, in connivance with his wife, Eno, and a friend, Idom Essong, staged and kidnapped one of the company’s directors simply identified as Adebayo, squeezing a ransom of N36 million from his family.
