The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has accused the presiding judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, Justice I. E. Ekwo, of condoning the antics of two suspects with the aim of delaying their prosecution on charges of money laundering and criminal misappropriation of N800million in public funds.

GOVERNOR of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has asked the Federal Government to downsize the labour force if it must achieve anything meaningful as far as economic resuscitation is concerned in the country.

Sanusi, who also insisted on total fuel subsidy removal, took a swipe at the Nigerian political system, asking for an inexpensive government system that will bring down overhead cost and liberate capital for infrastructural development. These calls were made during his presentation at the second Annual Capital Market Committee retreat that was held on Tuesday, in Warri, Delta State. To Sanusi, it is illogical for a country to have its economy developed when it spends 70 per cent of its revenue  in servicing salaries and gratuities of workers.

7 Christians And 1 Pastor Sentenced To Death For Mocking Islam Prophet




An Egyptian court convicted in absentia on Wednesday seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and a Florida-based American pastor, sentencing them to death on charges linked to an anti-Islam film that had sparked riots in parts of the Muslim world.


The case was seen as largely symbolic because the defendants, most of whom live in the United States, are all outside Egypt and are thus unlikely to ever face the sentence. The charges were brought in September during a wave of public outrage in Egypt over the amateur film, which was produced by an Egyptian-American Copt.

The low-budget “Innocence of Muslims,” parts of which were made available online, portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, womaniser and buffoon.

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Ibrahim Balogun, a 25-year-old man accused of perpetrating a series of murders in Somolu, Bariga and Fadeyi in the state. PUNCH Metro had reported on June 25, 2012, that Balogun also known as Small Jpron, was declared wanted following a gang-related violence between Shaggy Boys and Downtown Boys which left at least five people dead in Ilaje, Bariga.

Terry G is wanted by the Nigerian police for a hit and run that occurred on Friday November 23rd.
According to police reports, Terry G hit the victim, Moshood Azeez, with his car while leaving Club Royale located on Oba Akran Rd Ikeja.
Moshood, whose leg was crushed in the accident, was rushed to General Hospital Ikeja where he is still receiving treatment. Terry G was said to have fled the scene of the accident now making it a police case.
Police at Wemabod Estate, Ikeja invited the Akpako master for questioning but he didn't respond to the invitation. Corporal Linus Reuben who is in charge of the case said Terry G has left the country for the UK. He said they plan to go after him once he returns.

Nigerian Nurse On Trial Over The Death Of Baby Who Bled To Death




A 66 year-old Nigerian nurse, Grace Adeleye, is currently on trial for the death of a four-week-old baby boy who bled to death after a home circumcision. Goodluck Caubergs was only 27 days old when he died after bleeding to death for several hours the day after Adeleye carried out the procedure.

Goodluck was born on March 22, 2010, in Rochdale and died on April 17, 2010. His parents, also from Nigeria, were introduced to Adeleye by a friend as she had performed many circumcisions over the years and offered her ‘experience and skill’.

Around 5pm on April 16, Goodluck’s father, Olajunti Fatunla, brought Adeleye by car to the family home — and the nurse sent him immediately to get some Calpol while she and the mother, Sylvia Attiko, got on with the op.

Once inside, Adeleye told the boy’s mother to fetch some olive oil and a bowl of warm water and the child was stripped to just his vest. Adeleye then brought her ‘instruments’ out of her handbag and dipped a pair of scissors into the water in a kidney dish.

24 year old Nigerian/American woman, Jessica Tata, was sentenced to 80 years in prison on Monday November 20th after being found guilty of the death of one of four children killed in a fire at her home day care in Houston.

16-month-old Elias Castillo and three other toddlers died after Tata left them unsupervised at her home while she went to a nearby store. Prosecutors say she left a pan of oil cooking atop a stovetop burner and that this ignited the February 2011 blaze. There were 7 children when the fire started, four died, three survived.

54-Year-Old Woman Jailed 10 Years For Molesting Her 19-Year-Old Worker




A woman from Zimbabwe who took advantage of their 19-year-old worker while her husband was away at work and forcibly became intimate with him was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in prison. The woman aged 54 pleaded not guilty to aggravated indecent assault, but was convicted by senior Western Division regional magistrate Mr Owen Tagu. Three years of her sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Mr Goodluck Katenaire, for the State said on the night of 18 to 19 January this year, the woman and the man slept under one roof, but in different rooms. During the night, the woman went to the room where the man was sleeping and asked him to join her in her bedroom, but he refused since he knew that she was married to his employer.

She kept on bothering him, but he refused and the State proved that she lifted him up and took him to her bedroom where she laid him on a reed mat and undressed him. He tried to get up, but she pinned him down and went on to be intimate with him at about 5am on 19 January. The man decided to terminate his employment and went back to his parents’ homestead where he narrated his ordeal to his father and a police report was later made leading to her arrest.

Comments On Insecurity : Obasanjo Fires Back At Gowon - How He Fell Out with Jonathan




Former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the weeker took on former Head of State, retired General Yakubu Gowon for describing him as “highly irresponsible” for criticising President Goodluck Jonathan’s ‘weak’ approach to the insecurity in the North-East.

Police raid mainland clubs, Basketmouth's Embarssy lounge affected





On Friday November 23rd, the Nigerian police, without warning or any particular reason, raided four clubs located on University Road, Akoka, Yaba Lagos. The raid, led by the DPO from Yabo-Sabo police station, affected Basketmouth's EmBARssy lounge located at 12 University Rd, where at least 10 individuals were arrested without any reason. They were released the next day.

Four Die, 10 Injure In Ogun Auto Crash





Four people  yesterday were reportedly killed while 10 sustained various degrees of  injury  in an auto crash that occured on Abeokuta-Lagos road in Onihale village in Ifo local government area of Ogun State.
According to an eye-witness, the accident involved a Lagos-bound bus with registration number Lagos XY178 LSR which skided off the road  and summersaulted while coming from Abeokuta.

Woman Jailed For Dumping Baby In Latrine





A 25-year-old woman, Ms Toyin Akinbobola, has been sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment for dumping her day-old baby inside a pit toilet at her idanre home, Ondo State. Akinbobola, who was found guilty by a Chief Magistrate in the Idanre Judicial Division, Mrs. Folashade Aduroja, last Friday dumped the baby in the toilet minutes after giving birth to her on October 18.
