Pres. GEJ lacks the experience to lead Nigeria- Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President and APC presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar said in an interview with AFP today that President Jonathan lacks the ability to lead Nigeria, saying GEJ is the reason Boko Haram activities has been on the increase.

"This insurgency shouldn’t have lasted even six months. Within weeks, we (Obasanjo and I) crushed it because we did not neglect military training and, of course, we did not lack the leadership and the capacity to take decisions. I told Nigerians that he [Jonathan] did not have the capacity; he didn’t have the experience. He didn’t have anything and yet they gave him the chance, the opportunity. And they can now see the chance and the opportunity they gave him. Of course, I’m more experienced than he is. I believe my capacity cannot be compared with his, in all respect.” he said

Why President Jonathan orders sack of striking doctors

Recently President Goodluck Jonathan approved the sack of doctors across federal hospitals in Nigeria, citing the current challenges facing the health sector as the reason for the action. The doctors under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) had embarked on a strike to press home their demand for an improvement in their welfare on July 1 and several attempts to resolve the issue have ended in a stalemate.

The government had earlier accused the doctors of neglecting their oath to protect lives and continue to turn down the request to suspend the strike, particularly during the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus and the ongoing insurgency in some parts of the country. In a letter signed on behalf of the health minister by L. N. Awute, a permanent secretary in the ministry of health, the president ordered that the action should take immediate effect.

How Nigeria has changed under President Jonathan

Today, May 29, is celebrated as Democracy Day in Nigeria and it is significant for two reasons. In Nigeria’s political history, this day 15, years ago, marked the end of military dictatorship and the enthronement of democratic governance. After years of military rule defined by state sponsored brutality, repression and impunity, Nigeria entered a new democratic phase on May 29, 1999. It was also on this day in 2011 that President Goodluck Jonathan assumed the leadership of our country. But his Presidency had begun two years earlier when he succeeded the late Umaru Yar’Adua.

Chibok Visit: In Defense of President Jonathan

On Wednesday 6th of April 1994, around 8:30pm the Presidential Jet conveying President Juvenal Habyarimana of Rwanda touched the country's airspace after a trip from Tanzania.

Few minutes before landing, the Jet was shot down by a radical terror group. The President and all his entourage died instantly thus marking the beginning of the Rwanda genocide. The President was from the 'Hutu' tribe and the assassination was believed to have been carried out by 'Tutsis' the other tribe in the country and before one could say Jack, all hell was let loose. In 100days of vengeance over one million Tutsis were slaughtered in cold blood not with guns but Machetes, Clubs and Knives. Husbands killed wives, Pastors betrayed Church members who had run to them for sanctuary. For months the reign of bloodbath continued without recess.

Chibok girls: President GEJ inaugurates fact-finding committee

President Goodluck Jonathan today inaugurated a 30-man fact-finding committee to look into the rescue of kidnapped Chibok girls. The committee is expected to speak to the public at least once a day to keep everyone abreast with recent developments on the case.

The committee will look into issues surrounding the abduction of the girls and also consider possible rescue plans. While inaugurating the committee, the President said;

"You will agree with me that this is not a committee that brings joy to me and indeed our country men and women. However, it is a necessary step which government must take to confront the sad circumstances surrounding the abduction of female students, our daughters in Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.
First let me make it very clear – luckily the Minister of Justice is here – that this committee is neither a judicial committee nor an administrative committee to look into the affairs of this incident. No. It is not administrative panel set up by federal government or a judicial committee. I must make that very clear because those are the responsibilities of the state and not that of the federal government. Continue...

Dear Compatriots,
 1.  I extend warm greetings and felicitations to all Nigerians as we celebrate our nation’s centenary; a significant milestone in our journey to Nationhood.

 2. One hundred years ago, on the 1st of January 1914, the British Colonial authorities amalgamated the Southern and Northern Protectorates, giving birth to the single geo-political entity called Nigeria which has become our home, our hope, and our heritage.

3. I have often expressed the conviction that our amalgamation was not a mistake. While our union may have been inspired by considerations external to our people; I have no doubt that we are destined by God Almighty to live together as one big nation, united in diversity. .............

"PRESIDENT JONATHAN GOODLUCK OF NIGERIA VERSUS MALLAM LAMIDO SANUSI"

The two or many wrongs do not make one single right in all reality. Let the Central Bank of Nigeria's activities and the tenure of Lamido Sanusi as its governor in charge be both audited by an autonomous accounting agency while his controversial suspension is still pending in order to avoid any future interference with the investigation.
