Dangote to chair World Economic Forum
President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has been appointed a co-chair of next year’s annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos-Kloster, Switzerland.
The Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum, Prof. Klaus Schwab, in a letter inviting the business mogul to co-chair the sitting, said the WEF was of the belief that Dangote’s participation would contribute significantly to the substance of the discussions.
Schwab said in the letter, “The discussions aim to stimulate an unparalleled global dialogue among the relevant leaders from the government, business, academia, civil society and the media.

JTF captures bunkering vessels, nabs 26
The Joint (Military) Task Force in the Niger Delta, code named Operation Pulo Shield, said on Sunday that it intercepted two bunkering vessels and arrested 26 suspected oil thieves, including a Ghanain, in the region. According to the JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the feat was achieved after a week-long operations in Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta and Edo states. He said the suspects were arrested over alleged illegal lifting of crude oil and illegally distilled Automated Gas Oil (diesel). In Bayelsa State, Nwachukwu said troops of 343 Artillery Regiment deployed in the state’s creeks, uncovered a hose illegally connected from Nigerian Agip Oil Company’s pipeline to an illegal oil dump.

Why Agagu's casket was intact after plane crash that killed 13
Not only was the casket carrying Agagu's corpse intact after the plane crashed on Thursday morning, people who opened the casket shortly after the crash said the cap on his head stayed intact and his body wasn't ruffled. These discoveries have baffled so many, with some insinuating it's juju. But the reason is really simple. The casket was latched to the hooks in the cargo compartment of the plane and was placed in the rear end of the plane. A man has died after setting himself on fire on the National Mall in Washington. Police responded to an emergency call about a fire shortly before 4.30pm on the Mall. The man was airlifted to hospital after bystanders used the shirts off their backs to tamp down the flames, police and witnesses said.
The man, who was not identified, was conscious when he was taken to Washington Hospital Centre but he later died from his injuries.

Just in: Pro-Jonathan rally turns violent in Kaduna, several injured
A pro-Jonathan political rally, disguised as a Unity and Peace rally, has ended abruptly on a tragic note in Kaduna, with an unspecified number of participants reportedly injured, with some dripping with blood.
At least two people were stabbed and rushed to hospital while several others suffered minor injuries after participants began to use dangerous weapons on one another, witnesses said.
The rally, reportedly bankrolled by a governor from the South-south geopolitical zone, was organized under the auspices of the Northern Youth Forum, which has members in the 19 northern states.

Saudi-bound airplane makes crisis landing in Sokoto as tyres explode
A Saudi bound Kabo Air plane carrying 400 passengers from Kano made an emergency landing at the Sir Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto early today Saturday October 5th.
The Boeing 747 jumbo jet which left Kano on Friday en route to Saudi Arabia had to divert to Sokoto after several of its tyres exploded immediately after it took off the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano. Nigeria Is Experiencing Financial Crisis, Says Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole
The inability of the Nigerian Government to meet its financial obligations to state governments has been described as a recipe for national disaster which can lead to serious security challenges. Making this assertion during a press briefing in Benin-City, Thursday, Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, said the country was experiencing financial crisis as most states could not pay the salaries of their workers.
Following the Nigerian Government's inability to pay monthly allocation to states, Mr. Oshiomhole implored the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to pay into the Federation Account the over N2.3 trillion it was owing it.
