The Truth about FG’s position On ASUU Strike Revealed by Finance Ministry, says Iweala is not the Problem

This is a press statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance concerning the ongoing ASUU strike. It's been four long months (Quite shameful I must add) without any apparent resolution to the conflict in sight...and some folks are blaming the Minister of finance Dr Okonjo Iweala for what's going on. following the break. Some people in ASUU have been distributing flyers with abusive messages against Dr Okonjo-Iweala and now the ministry is issuing a statement about it, saying the minister isn't the problem. I'd rather read about when ASUU is calling off this strike to be honest.

Nigeria has lost $400bn to graft –Ministry official

Deputy Director of Reforms at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. John Magbadelo, on Thursday in Abuja introduced a new twist to the recruitment scandals rocking the nation’s federal civil service with a call on anti-graft agencies to probe the process of employment, promotions, postings and deployments in the public service.
Magbadelo said processes in the federal service “are riddled with corruption,” and that the country lost over $400bn to corruption over a period of 33 years  between 1966 and 1999.

“The cancerous rot which has continued to impair the growth of potential of this country seems to have defied every therapy. It was estimated that Nigeria had lost to corruption as much as $400 bn between 1966 and 1969. Yet corruption in Nigeria preceded 1966 and has continued ever since even beyond 2007 with greater ferocity and intensity,” he said.

Ekiti shuts131 substandard schools

Ekiti State Government on Monday directed the closure of 131 private schools which, it said, were substandard.
The order, which was given by the state Ministry of Education, affected both primary and secondary schools.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the directive followed the expiration of the six-month ultimatum given to their proprietors to regularise their operations and upgrade their facilities.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, who made this known while addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, said that owners of the affected schools had been warned severally to properly register them.
She said the schools were given six months deadline to meet the standard set by the state government for the running of private schools.
Ajayi, however, said that the proprietors of the affected schools remained indifferent to the directive.
She reiterated the commitment of the government to the provision of a conducive learning environment that would enhance the performance of students.
The commissioner said that government would not compromise the future of the children in the state under any circumstance.
