Washington seeks to build up forces on Russia's border, restart Cold War - former Reagan advisor

 Paul Craig Roberts

What is your focus for the further NATO enlargement? Would the organization manage to move towards building up the bases in the Baltics and Eastern Europe?
The purpose of the call from Washington to build up forces on Russia’s border with Eastern Europe and the Baltics is to restart the cold war. Washington needs a threat in order to continue to supply hundreds of billions of dollars annually to its military security complex. This complex is very important to Washington. It is very powerful and much of the money that the tax payers are required to give up in order to fund in armament industry and the security industry, returns to politicians in form of campaign contributions.

Although President Jonathan participates in the Ramadan fast every year in solidarity with Nigerians of the Islamic faith, he has never as Vice President or President of the country visited the residence of any individual to break his fast.
Rather, it has been the President’s custom to regularly invite Moslems from all strata of society to break their fast with him at the Presidential Villa during the month of Ramadan.

“In late 2011 there are outbreaks in Syria produced by a drought and abetted by two well-known autocracies in the Middle East: Qatar and Saudi Arabia,” Zbigniew Brzezinski said in an interview withThe National Interest on June 24.

He added that US President Barack Obama also supported the unrest in Syria and suddenly announced that President Bashar al-Assad “has to go -- without, apparently, any real preparation for making that happen.”

“Then in the spring of 2012, the election year here, the CIA under General Petraeus, according to The New York Times of March 24th of this year, a very revealing article, mounts a large-scale effort to assist the Qataris and the Saudis and link them somehow with the Turks in that effort,” said Brzezinski, who was former White House national security adviser under Jimmy Carter and now a counselor and trustee at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a senior research professor at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.

Egypt Former Finance Minister Gets 25 Years In Prison

A former finance minister has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by an Egyptian court on charges of squandering public funds.  According to Egypt’s state news agency in a Tuesday report, Yousef Boutros-Ghali was found guilty of squandering around $3.6 million (about N571m)during his final years as minister.
Boutros-Ghali is a nephew of former U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali and is believed to be in London, but was tried anyway. His absence means he is allowed a retrial and all verdicts can be overturned upon his return.
Boutros-Ghali has been convicted on similar charges in past cases. A Cairo court is also due to issue a verdict later this month in a case involving Boutros-Ghali and the country’s former prime minister, Ahmed Nazif, and former interior minister, Habib el-Adly, who are both imprisoned in Cairo.
