Right engine of British Airways plane stops working before take-off at Abuja Airport

We got a call this yesterday from one  Ọmọ Oódua reader inside a British Airways flight at the Abuja International Airport. They told us that the BA 8:30 flight to London was preparing to take off when the right engine of the plane just stopped working. They heard a noise and then smoke. The plane had to be towed back to the tarmac.

As at the last time we spoke with one of them, engineers were trying to fix the engine. We even heard the pilot making an announcement. They are not sure if the flight will continue or if it will be cancelled, but they are all still inside the plane at the moment. BA has been given 40 minutes to fix the engine or the flight will be cancelled...for safety reasons. Will keep you .

Update: All passengers have been asked to leave the plane
Update 2: The flight has been cancelled

TON gathered that the angry protesters who stormed the assembly complex with sleeping mats, beddings and their kids, vowed not to vacate the premises until their demands were met.
They are, among other issues, demanding that President Goodluck Jonathan sack the DG of the NIMC, Chris Onyenema over the sack of over 4,000 staff without following due process, their reinstatement or payment of their full benefits.

Why I operate a taxi — Abuja female driver

Curiosity. That was the main reason for choosing to ride in Ms. Aisha Umar’s taxi in the Federal Capital Territory on Friday .
Ms Aisha Umar has been a taxi driver in Abuja for over five years. Her handling of the vehicle is professional. She calls out for passengers and attends to matters relating to her job cheerfully and promptly too. She is never shy; and almost every day, she has had to answer questions, especially from many inquisitive male passengers. That, she does, courteously.
According to her, taxi business was the last thing on her mind when she dropped out of the university over 10 years ago.

The Wuse Market junction, usually crowded with mini cabs painted in green colour, was virtually free of vehicular traffic. It was quite an unusual sight. The pavements of the surrounding roads were crammed with hundreds of pedestrians heading to various destinations within and around the Federal Capital Territory.
At a glance, it seemed as if the people had deliberately decided to trek long distances. But a closer examination showed that most of them were engaged in the exercise against their own will.

Pres GEJ Claims He Had Nothing To Do With Abuja Posters

President Goodluck Jonathan today denied having a hand in the campaign posters that flooded the streets of Abuja yesterday January 1st, announcing his readiness to contest in the 2015 elections. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati said those behind the posters didn't do it with the president's permission.
'Those pasting the posters are trying to express their own view. The president had stated that he will talk about the presidency from 2014. Those doing these do not have the consent of the president. What is most important now is for the president to deliver on his electioneering promise to Nigerians and not to embark on the pasting of posters. It has not come from the president. Nigerians should take the president for his word and ignore any other information to the contrary”
Do you believe them?
