Why I retired as Major-General — Buhari

A former Head of State, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Friday said he decided to retire with his current rank in 1985, to defend and promote the integrity of the military, instead of promoting himself. Buhari said this at a public presentation of two books: “Nigerian military in politics: 1966-2011 and Politics of transition to civil rule in Nigeria” in Zaria, Kaduna State. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the books were published by Head of Political Science Department, Federal College Education, Zaria, Nuhu Ramalan

“It was the conviction of our regime that, being the Head of State and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, does not mean that you are the overall General. “My ultimate goal as at then was to ensure integrity, justice, equity, accountability and transparency in the system. That was why I did away with unnecessarily promoting myself to General,” he said. Speaking on the military in politics, Buhari, the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 general elections, identified some weaknesses of the past military regimes to include corruption and abuse of office.

If Care’s Not Taken, Nigeria’ll Go The Way Of Egypt, I Refused to Give Up - Muhammadu Buhari

Three time Presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari(rtd), has warned political leaders in the country to take a cue from what happened in Egypt a few days ago.
Egyptian President, Mr. Mohammed Morsi, was on Thursday overthrown by the country’s military after days of protest near the Presidential Palace.
Speaking at the public presentation of two books by Malam Nuhu Ramalan, Head of Political Science Department of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria, the former Head of State said:
“I encourage young men to buy the books to know their history. Although I know history would keep on repeating itself, as it (has) just been in Egypt. Nigeria would not be an exception, and by the way we are going only God knows where we are going to end up, but I hope we would end up well”.

IBB To Expose Buhari Over Missing $2.8B Oil Money

A complex situation that may be too hot to handle may soon erupt between two former heads of states, General Buhari and General Babangida over political differences. Babagida has threatened to bring up an issue that seems likely to create conflicts if not quenched now.“On Gen. Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former President. But for the purpose of record,
We are conversant with Gen. Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou attitude.“He is a one-time Minister of Petroleum and we have good records of his tenure as minister. Secondly, he also presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund ( PTF) which records we also have. We challenge him to come out with clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or, we will help him to expose his “records of performance during those periods. Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones.

On Buhari's Call for the President's Resignation - By Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri is Special Assistant to President Jonathan on New Media. Read his response below...
Reading the interview Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) gave to Daily Trust which was published on Wednesday the 22nd of May 2013, I am compelled to raise historical issues that put the former military Head of State's words in perspective.
Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) blamed President Jonathan for the insurgency occasioned by the militant sect, Jamā'a Ahl al-sunnah li-da'wa wa al-jihād, commonly referred to as Boko Haram and asked President Jonathan to resign saying “Jonathan should vacate and give way to competent hand to govern the country”.

Buhari further said “When the Niger Delta militants started their activities in the South-South, they were invited by the late President Umaru Yar’adua.
An aircraft was sent to them and their leaders met with the late President in Aso Rock and discussed issues. They were given money and a training scheme was introduced for their members. But when the Boko Haram emerged in the north members of the sect were killed”.

I’ll not disappoint Nigerians – Buhari

Former Head of State and Congress for Progressive Change presidential candidate in the 2011 presidential election, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has said he will not disappoint Nigerians if given the mandate to lead in 2015.
He also promised to transform the country positively.
Addressing the CPC North-West zone Contact and Mobilisation  Committee in Kaduna on Wednesday, the former military leader insisted the elections of 2003, 2007 and that of 2011, lacked fairness and  credibility.
Buhari, who said this had resulted in Nigeria’s poor development, pointed out that the Peoples Democratic Party had almost ruined the country.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to support the opposition parties merger  initiative to wrest power from PDP.

He  called for their support in order to ensure that the proposed merger becomes a reality.

After Saying Abacha Never Stole, Buhari Embarrassed as More Abacha Loot is Uncovered

Former military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, who served Abacha as Executive Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) has come under some embarrassment over his comments in 2008 that Abacha never stole as new Abacha loot has been traced.

Buhari, in 2007, described the allegations of looting against Abacha as “baseless”, because according to him, “ten years after Abacha, those allegations remain unproven because of lack of facts”.

However, fresh facts emerged that the previous estimate of what Abacha stole which stood at $5 Billion may be wrong.

Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, slammed President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the virulent sect, Boko Haram, as a creation of the present administration.

Buhari will concede to any APC presidential candidate – Okechukwu

In this interview with OZIOMA UBABUKOH, a former governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in Enugu State, Osita Okechukwu, speaks about the All Progressives Congress, its plans to oust the Peoples Democratic Party,  Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential ambition, among other issues
Is the sole aim of the All Progressives Congress just to grab power?
The sole aim of the APC is the provision of welfare and security, which Nigerians have been denied in the last 13 years by the PDP, a political party with the philosophy, ‘Food is Ready’ and motto: ‘Share the Money.’
Many Nigerians are of the opinion that there is no ideological difference between any of the political parties, therefore, the APC is a gang-up with the aim to grab power.
