Consequently, Pastor Eric Abakporo could spend a maximum term of about 30 years in prison when he is finally sentenced on November 12, 2013.
According to Sahara Reporters, Abakporo was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and bank fraud. The first and third charges each carry a maximum of 30 years in jail, while wire fraud carries a maximum of 20 years.

Jungle Justice: Kidnapper Set Ablaze By Angry Mob
The suspect was said to have been caught while trying to kidnap a 9-year old child, claimed to be a lorry conductor.
The victim who identified himself as Raimi Wasiu, was quoted as saying he hailed from Osogbo, Osun State capital and also confessed to be a kidnapper alongside seven others.
He added that they worked for a cleric resident around Hajj camp, Ilorin and that hardship led him into the act.

Police believe Marcelo Pesseghini shot each victim in the head with a .40 caliber pistol early Monday morning at the home in Sao Paulo, Brazil, before catching a lift into school with a friend.

A veteran presidential candidate and a major stakeholder in the newly-registered All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Tuesday said the new party was determined to push out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in 2015.
“The APC is focus-driven to push the PDP out of power by 2015,” Buhari told members of the Democratic Emancipation Movement who paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna.
But the PDP said on Tuesday that Buhari, who ruled Nigeria as a military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, was day-dreaming.

Although President Jonathan participates in the Ramadan fast every year in solidarity with Nigerians of the Islamic faith, he has never as Vice President or President of the country visited the residence of any individual to break his fast.
Rather, it has been the President’s custom to regularly invite Moslems from all strata of society to break their fast with him at the Presidential Villa during the month of Ramadan.
In keeping with that established practice, President Jonathan has been busy hosting Moslems, most evenings of the current Ramadan season.

UK Graduate Nabbed By NDLEA for carrying Heavy White Drugs
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have apprehended a 30-year-old man, John Arinze, for being in possession of 2.1 kilogrames of methamphetamine.
The NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the arrest was made during the outward screening of passengers on a Virgin Atlantic flight to London at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, who confirmed the arrest, said, “Four parcels containing substances that tested positive for methamphetamine were found carefully hidden inside Arinze’s luggage.
“Officers had to cut open the sides of the bag to recover the parcels of drugs. On interrogation as to the purposes of his travel, the suspect claimed he had an interview in London.”
Arinze, who is a career counsellor, also claimed to be an ambassador of Bolton University in the United Kingdom where he had lived for three years.
Arinze claimed that he was given the bag by a friend, who bought his return ticket to London.
He said, “I came to Nigeria in June as an alumni ambassador of my university. I have a Master’s degree in International Business from Bolton University. Work was at advanced stage for an exhibition in Onitsha with parents and prospective candidates, who are interested in furthering their education in the United Kingdom.
“In the process, I got an interview request in London which I had wanted to quickly attend and then return to Nigeria. A friend who assisted me in buying my ticket gave me the bag to use for my trip. It was inside the bag that the parcels of drug were found. I truly regret the incident and will like my friends, relatives and business partners to please understand my situation.”
Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, described Arinze’s excuse as disappointing.
He said, “It is sad and disappointing that the suspect could yield to the demand to traffic drugs considering his academic background and profession as a career counsellor.”

WORRISOME: Man Run Over By Truck While Sleeping Under It
A witness said the victim, who was fasting, had gone to take a rest under the parked truck after observing a prayer. He said he had slept off when the driver of the truck came out to move the vehicle without knowing that someone was under it. According to the witness, the driver initially thought it was a log of wood he climbed over but when he alighted from the vehicle, he saw it was a human being.
He said the victim was immediately rushed to the Kubwa General hospital for medical attention.
The hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit Head, Paul Olise, confirmed the incident, but said the victim was later moved to General Hospital, Asokoro.

EFCC Nabs Man With 30 ATM Cards And 8 Signed Paper Cheques
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged ATM fraud. He was picked up at about 11 pm on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State following an intelligence report.
At the point of arrest, 30 ATM cards of different banks with which he allegedly withdrew a total sum of five hundred and fifty thousand naira (N550, 000) were found in his possession. Eight signed UBA cheques belonging to sundry persons were also found on him. Kingsley Mudi, who claimed to be a Disc Jockey and an operator of a barbing salon, has volunteered useful information. Nigerian Policemen implicated in varsity student’s killing arrested
The policemen accused of collaborating with hoodlums to kill two youths in Badagry, Lagos State, have been arrested. They were arrested on Friday, according to the police authorities.
However, a new video made available to our correspondent identified two of the policemen as Inspector Adefemi Ashogbon, who is the station officer of the Badagry Police Division, and one Sergeant John Sonayon. The two policemen and four other yet-to-be-identified policemen could be seen at the scene watching hoodlums beat the victims to death.

The APC said instead of reaching out to his Lagos State counterpart, as he had done on less important issues in the past, Obi wrote an “over-dramatised letter” to the Presidency and leaked it to the media.
According to the party, Obi, by his action, has set off an avoidable friction between the Igbo and the Yoruba.
The APC added that Obi by the approach, wanted to gain an undue advantage ahead of the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.
The APC stated, “We are not saying Governor Obi has no right to play politics, but he must fight clean and avoid any action that could hurt, not just the enduring harmony between the Igbo and the Yoruba, but also the unity of the country.
“Resorting to primordial sentiments, anytime election is approaching, is Governor Obi’s modus operandi. He did it just before the 2009 election, when he labelled the ACN, under which Dr. Chris Ngige contested, as a Yoruba party, and he is going down the same path now. The Presidency on Sunday blasted APC leaders saying that these were not just unprogressive but also describing them as “politically expired” politicians. However, the APC reacted swiftly, saying Nigerians knew perfectly that most of the PDP leaders were septuagenarians and octogenarians.

But the Presidency, through the Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said with the “politically expired” leaders in the APC, there was no way it would be a threat to the PDP.
It added in a statement in Abuja, that it would be foolhardy for anyone to think that the APC would be an alternative to the PDP.

Convention: Atiku Protests Exclusion
As politicians begin subtle battles ahead of 2015 elections, a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has complained that he is being sidelined by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Already, he said his name was not on the delegates lists from Adamawa State chapter of the party for the August 31 Special National Convention. The party will use the convention to elect some of its national officers, who resigned recently due to irregularities in the last election that brought them to office.
Atiku is also protesting against his not being invited for the party’s National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees meetings, which he said should not be so “since he is a statutory delegate as a former Vice President.”

He told former national leaders who attended the event, including Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Abdusalam Abubakar (retd) to help in converting Nigeria’s diversity to strength.
