Nigeria to acquire 30 Brand New Aeroplanes as National Carrier, New Airports to be constructed

As part of the remodelling exercise going on across the nation’s aviation industry, the Ministry of Aviation has disclosed that it is strategising to get 30 more aircraft as a deliberate intervention to make air fare cheaper and affordable to the common man, and aviation business more profitable to the nation.
General Manager, Corporate Communications, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Yakubu Dati, who disclosed these in Jos, the Plateau State capital,  while inspecting  construction works going on at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, added that the ministry is also considering Aerotropolis, where cities would be built around airports; such that hotels and conference halls are built around the airports to cater for accommodation and business meetings.

The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, CVC, on Saturday said that Nigerians spend an average of $500 million annually as students of European and American universities.
Ike Onyechere, chairman Exam Ethics International had on November 12 said Nigerians spend N80 billion or $500m in the UK alone and N1.5 trillion globally.

The founder and Senior Pastor of the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Matthew Ashimolowo has said clergymen who own private jets could be saving lots of monies for their congregations.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s weekend programme, Sunrise, Pastor Ashimolowo accused the media of blowing out of proportion the recent acquisition of a private jet by a Nigerian pastor insisting that only few out of the myriads of clergy in the country own jets.

He said “Out of probably 20 million clergy, there may not be more than six" who own private jets. “There is a blowing out of proportion by the media because six people out of 20 million is not a large proportion.
 "Then when you take those four or six individuals look at their itinerary and find out; is it even saving money for their organisation to have it or is it costing the organisation?” Pastor Ashimolowo pointed out.

Gunmen ‘burn churches, border posts’ in Borno

KANO – Suspected members of the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram set fire to churches and border posts in northeastern Nigeria on Sunday, residents said, but it was not immediately known if there were casualties. Around 50 gunmen in cars and on motorcycles carried out the attacks on three churches and border posts with neighbouring Cameroon, opening fire on police and chanting Allahu Akbar, (God is Greatest), residents said.

Governor Suntai’s aides return to Nigeria after treatment in Germany

The Chief Security Officer and the Chief Details of Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba state have arrived Nigeria after successfully undergoing medical treatment in Germany following the October 25th plane crash. Governor Suntai and three of his aids sustained serious injuries in the plane crash and had to be flown abroad for urgent medical attention.  Governor Suntai and his ADC are still in a German hospital according to the Taraba state commissioner of Information, but says they recovering well and hopes they will be discharged in no distant time

A pregnant woman and seven other persons have been confirmed dead in a road crash in Delta State. The accident occurred on the Asaba-Ibuzor Road on Thursday. The pregnant woman and the others were said to be traveling in a 14-seater Toyota Hiace Bus, which rammed into a tipper. A former Nigerian national basketball player was shot dead in a botched burglary in Texas before Thanksgiving, it has been revealed. Chinedu Onyeuku, 29, was trying to break into a home in Plano on November 21 and was shot and killed by the homeowner, police say.
