Eurozone Records Longest Ever Recorded Recession



The Eurozone’s economy has hit a record high after new figures showed it contracted for the sixth straight quarter.
Falling output from France to Finland meant that the 17-nation economy shrunk 0.2 percent in the January to March period, its longest recession since records began in 1995, the EU’s statistics office Eurostat said on Wednesday.
INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies) statistics agency also issued figures on Wednesday which showed that Germany, which generates almost a third of the eurozone’s economic output, unexpectedly recorded only 0.1 percent growth, barely skirting the recession that France succumbed to.

Nigeria records 2nd highest Youtube figures in Sub Saharan Africa in 2012

There is little doubt that the Internet is having a profound effect on the way Nigerians do things - from business, to searching for information, to enjoying and sharing entertainment, the contemporary Nigerian's approach now wends towards using online tools. Since its launch in 2011, YouTube has warmed its way into the hearts of Nigerians, resulting in its extensive use across different sectors and groups.

In 2012, the number of views in Nigeria grew by an amazing 125%, making Nigeria the country with the 2nd highest viewership growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. According to the new figures which place Ghana in the top position with 140% viewership growth, Nigeria is ahead of the other Sub-saharan African countries with local YouTube domains- Kenya 95%, South Africa 80%, Uganda 75% and Senegal 75%.

Malawi Records 1000 HIV Infections Weekly



In Malawi, over ten percent of the population is HIV positive. The AIDS-ravaged country records an average of 1,000 new cases weekly, a top government official said on Saturday.
“It’s a great concern to us that despite efforts by government to prevent HIV and AIDS, the country continues to register about 1,000 new cases of HIV every week,” Edith Mkawa, a senior health ministry secretary in charge of nutrition, HIV and AIDS, told reporters.
“The number is very high. It is frustrating the fight against HIV pandemic,” she said.

World Aids Day: Nigeria Records Decline In New Hiv Infections





Nigeria recorded 300,000 new cases in 2012., even as the country was ranked as number eight among 12 countries in the world that have recorded a decline in the new Human Immuno-deficiency Virus, HIV, infection rate. However,Benue state still leads other states in the federation in HIV prevalence with a prevalence rate of 10.7 percent,while Kebbi state, with 1.0% recorded the least prevalence rate in the country.
