Nigeria: FG Generated 195,534 Jobs in 2012 - Only?




A total of 195,534 jobs were generated last year by the Federal Government via several  contracts awarded by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, disclosed this to journalists at the end of the weekly FEC meeting Wednesday.
Maku, alongside the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Muhammed, attributed the source of the figure to the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, who briefed council on the performance and challenges of his ministry in the preceding year.

Nigeria records 2nd highest Youtube figures in Sub Saharan Africa in 2012

There is little doubt that the Internet is having a profound effect on the way Nigerians do things - from business, to searching for information, to enjoying and sharing entertainment, the contemporary Nigerian's approach now wends towards using online tools. Since its launch in 2011, YouTube has warmed its way into the hearts of Nigerians, resulting in its extensive use across different sectors and groups.

In 2012, the number of views in Nigeria grew by an amazing 125%, making Nigeria the country with the 2nd highest viewership growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. According to the new figures which place Ghana in the top position with 140% viewership growth, Nigeria is ahead of the other Sub-saharan African countries with local YouTube domains- Kenya 95%, South Africa 80%, Uganda 75% and Senegal 75%.

List Of Highest Paid Nigerian Footballers In 2012



Nigerian footballers sure do not earn the sort of money some of their colleagues from other African countries like Ivory Coast (Didier Drogab, Yaya Toure), Cameroun (Samuel Eto) take home. However, that some of them earn quite impressive sums of money is very obvious.

How The Federal Government, State Governments Shared N8.8 Trillion In 2012



It has been revealed that a total of N8.8 trillion accrued to the three tiers of government from the Federation Account between January and December 2012 from the statutory and VAT allocations. This is according to a report by an authoritative online medium, Economic Confidential magazine. This amount excludes other allocations such as derivation (for oil-producing states), excess crude account, domestic crude account, subsidy reinvestment programme (SURE-P), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation refund and foreign exchange differentials.

Lagos scores 2012 budget 89%



Lagos State Government has put the performance of 2012 budget at 89 per cent. It added that the performance was the highest since the inception of Governor Babatunde Fashola administration in 2007. A statement on Saturday by Lagos Governor Special Adviser, Media, Hakeem Bello, said Fashola spoke after the first  session of the three-day Executive Council/Permanent Secretaries Retreat at Lekki with the theme, ‘Enhancing Effective and Efficient Service Delivery in Lagos State.’
He said, “This improvement is the fulfilment of the promise we made during the third budget. It is also due to availability of resources and hard work.

Jonathan’s foreign trips gulp N3.3b Travelled 20 times in 2012





Billions of naira of taxpayers’ money have been expended on the foreign trips of President Goodluck Jonathan despite his January promise to cut down on such trips.
This newspaper’s findings show that the President and his entourage have spent not less than N3.354bn on foreign trips since 2010. Our correspondent learnt that in the first 11 months of 2012, the President had travelled out of the country at least 20 times, including his trip to Sierra Leone in October and the D8 Summit he attended in Pakistan in November.

Dangote; Richest Man Africa and Other Nigerians Counted In





Business mogul, Aliko Dangote can still hold his head high as the richest man in Africa just as the 2012 list of Africa’s 40 richest people came out with his name topping it. According to Forbes, most of his net worth lies in publicly traded Dangote Cement which operates in 14 African countries. Nicky Oppenheimer of South Africa comes in once again as the second richest, with a $6.4 billion fortune – down $100 million from the previous year.
