‘We Were Paid N150,000 To Kill School Proprietor'

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos, has arrested three men, who claimed they were contracted to kill a 65-year-old school proprietress, Mrs. Veronica Okenido, A police source told Saturday PUNCH on Friday that the leader of the gang was 25-year-old Jude Ekpenisi, who confessed that were paid by an undisclosed person to assassinate the woman.

According to a statement Jude made, they pitied Okenido because she is a Christian.

“We had compassion on the woman and rejected the N150,000 we were offered but asked the woman to pay us off with the same amount,” the suspect said.

Nigerian Lawmakers Are Highest Paid worldwide: See Report - The Economist

The jumbo salary being paid Nigerian legislators, which ranked the highest in the world, according to a new study, has attracted sharp criticisms from across the country, including from economists and lawyers.

This is even as the minimum wage in Nigeria is among the very least in the world. The standard of living for the average Nigerian is getting worse, but all those holding political positions are living large...

A report by The Economist revealed that Nigerian federal legislators with a basic salary of $189,500 (N30.6m) per annum were the highest paid lawmakers in the world.

Suspected leader of a kidnap syndicate that abducted the Managing Director, Naija Plaza Hotel, Oguta, Imo state and a pregnant woman and killed them after collecting ransom from their relatives, has been arrested by Policemen attached to Ilemba Hausa division in Lagos.

The suspect, Chika Richard Nwabiarijie, who hails from Omoku Local Government Area of Rivers state, was arrested in a hotel around Ojo area, in the company of his wife.

Koreans paid N30m ransom for kidnapped expatriates – CP

On Sunday, December 23, 2012 Four Kidnapped S. Korean Expatriates Freed

Korean owners of the Hyndai Heavy Industries paid N30m to the kidnappers of four of their workers at the company in Okpoama, Brass Local Government, Bayelsa State, it has been confirmed. Eight gunmen on December 17, 2012 raided the firm and kidnapped Jong Ken, Hi Kim, Doo Lee, Joon Chae and a Nigerian, Austin Giwa.

Chris Brown Was Paid N156M ($1m) To Perform For 2 Hours In Lagos

Nkiru Sylvanu Update:Family Paid N8 million to kidnappers for her release

The police in Owerri, the Imo state capital told reporters during a press briefing yesterday that Nkiru Sylvanus' family paid N8 million to the kidnappers before she was released on Thursday night.
The Commissioner of Police, Adisa Bolanta, said the family did this without the knowledge of the police. He said they had warned the family not to negotiate or deal directly with the kidnappers but they defied their orders "They defied our warnings and continued negotiations with the kidnappers. They went behind us and paid N8 million to them. We have made some arrests in connection with the case and very soon they will all be apprehended." He said
