CBN bans importation of foreign currency




Abuja -  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has banned the importation of all foreign currencies except with approval.
This was contained in a statement signed by CBN Director of Corporate Communications, Mr Ugo Okoroafor, on Tuesday in Abuja.
It said that the move was sequel to the Bank’s withdrawal of the operating licence of 20 Bureaux de Change (BDCs).

Jonathan can contest in 2015 - Lamido



Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido said President Goodluck Jonathan is free to contest the 2015 Presidential election through a fair and transparent process.

He made the comment yesterday when 50 ex-1979 legislators paid him a courtesy call in Dutse.

Lamido is among the G-7 governors who are reported to be opposed to the president standing for re-election.

Nigerian Students Cause Damage In Moscow Embassy , faces Charges



Moscow, Russia -- Sixteen Nigerian students were arrested in Russia's capital, Moscow, for wreaking havoc inside Nigeria's embassy. The students were reportedly angered over financial issues. 

The sources within the inner ministry say the 16 students now face administrative charges for hooliganism. The is going to be transferred to a Moscow court for futher processing.

Omor, Anyamelu Local Government Area of Anambra State -- Yesterday, September 30, 2013, the police forces reportedly invaded and destroyed the office of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Anaku, the council headquarters. The incident comes two days after the inauguration of the office.

The MASSOB Director of Information
in the area, Joseph Tagbo, in his interview, stated the police "vandalized" the office, and "carted away equipment and cash."
Mr. Tagbo wondered what the organization's offence was, that would have provoked the violence and stealing.

A two-year-old boy from Huaxi, has undergone an operation to provide'birth'after doctors diagnosed him as'pregnant '. Xiao Feng, was delivered to hospital after his stomach had become so distended he had begun to suffer breathing difficulties. Doctors took x-rays and MRI scans and unearthed that Feng was carrying the undeveloped foteus of their own twin inside his stomach and they rushed him to surgery. The removed foetus measured 20 cm in width and had an entirely formed spine and limbs, including fingers and toes. The parasitic twin could have developed into a child and had grown so large that almost 2/3rds of his affected twin's stomach was taken up.

President Jonathan Establishes the Committee on National Conference



President Goodluck Jonathan bowed to pressure from well-meaning Nigerians as he sets up a committee on national conference. The decision became known in the morning of October 1, 2013, Tuesday.
The committee, which he announced during his nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria's 53rd Independence anniversary from Great Britain, is to be headed by an Afenifere chieftain, Senator Femi Okunroumu.

Police nab three teenage stowaways at Lagos airport



The Airport Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested three teenagers for allegedly attempting to illegally board some international flights in Lagos.
Commissioner of Police for the command, Salahu Waheed, said the suspects, Lateef Popoola, 13; Amadi Joshua, 14; and Ukpabio Onyedikachi, 14, were arrested at different times at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.

Reps Declare ₦320bn Lacking From Crude oil Remittance




Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon Abdulmumuin Jibrin, last weekend declared N320billion missing from the remittance by the Nigeria Nationl Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He said that the sum of  N1.516 trillion was paid in by NNPC into the Federal Government treasury.

INFIDELITY: Husband flings His Wife, 4-Month-Old Daughter Into River Sindh



A man threw his wife and four-month-old daughter into the Sindh River off a bridge in Bhind district. The woman miraculously survived the 200-feet fall but, the infant has not been traced yet.
The man committed the crime in a drunken state after a quarrel with his wife. The woman had been ostracised by her family and in-laws on suspicion of infidelity. 

The woman's husband works in a private company in Delhi and she had earlier gone to the city to look for him, but was unable to locate her his house and wandered around in the capital for four days. This led him to suspect her.

U.S. Starts Hunting For Nigerian Keyboard Masters (419s)



Nigerian scams are widely known throughout the world. Though they are often poorly disguised, some gullible people still fall for them, and become victims of greedy and sly fraudsters.  In United States, a new government's initiative may put an end to those practices. The body responsible for consumer protection, the Federal Trade Commission, recently signed a  memorandum of understanding with two Nigerian agencies to increase cooperation against that type of scam.  "Cross-border scammers use fraudulent emails and other scams to bilk consumers all over the world, while undermining confidence in legitimate businesses," FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez said in a statement announcing the partnership. The memorandum of understanding is the first to include a foreign criminal enforcement authority, the FTC said. Looks like the U.S. had enough! Photos: New Investors Take Over PHCN As Workers head to the street



President Goodluck Jonathan has handed  the share certificates and licenses to 14 new investors of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN successor companies with an assurance that things are certain to get better in the energy sector. Jonathan described the process of the privatization programme as probably the most transparent in the annals of privatization in the country.

Meanwhile PHCN staff aren't happy about this improvement because their salaries are yet to be paid. They protested today in Government offices in Abuja and Lagos, and also warned the new investors to stay away from power installations for the present time until their demands are met. Female Nigerian Pilgrim From Jigawa Dies In Medina




The Jigawa State pilgrim welfare board on Monday announced the death of one Hajiya Safiya Musa in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The state’s Executive Secretary for the board, Alhaji Sani Alhasan, announced the death of the pilgrim shortly before the departure of the state’s intending pilgrims to Mecca. Alhaji Alhassan explained late Safiya Musa who was 58 years died in motor accident on Monday. Reports from the holy land indicated that the deceased was trying to cross a road in Medina after prayer.
The executive secretary noted that the deceased died in the hospital where she was rushed to after the accident. The state government had already informed her family.

There was a mild drama at the office of the Lagos State Police Commissioner in Ikeja on Friday as three suspects, who were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, were paraded before the House Committee on Police Affairs.
The suspects, Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka Godogodo; Felix Sunday, aka K Money; and Nwanyim Uche; pleaded for amnesty.
