The Opportunity Cost Of Tompolo’s Private Jet – By Kikiowo Ileowo




For those who haven’t heard, 43 year old ex-militant, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) on Monday 26th August 2013 received his Bombardier SE60 LearJet. The Jet according to aviation sources cost a whopping sum of $13.3 million (N2.12 billion).

The aim of this article is not to rubbish the person of Tompolo, [what is there to rubbish anyway] but to address inter alia; the scenarios that continue to play out in favour of his ilk, institutions and systems that perpetually endeavour to make his likes overnight celebrities. I would also analyse the opportunity cost of his latest toy.

President Goodluck Jonathan recently concluded an official trip to Kenya and by all accounts it was a successful one. President Jonathan reportedly signed several bilateral agreements with Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, and became the first foreign head of state to address the country’s parliament.

Russia Set To Build Africa’s 2nd Nuclear Power Plant In Nigeria As Nigeria Becomes Largest Producer of Uranium




After a few years on the African continent, Nigeria is likely to appear a second nuclear power station (the first was built in South Africa). Construction of nuclear power plant could take Russia.

Already announced for the undertaking of the intergovernmental agreement, which provides for cooperation in the design, construction, operation and decommissioning of the first nuclear power plant in Nigeria. This was reported by the corporation “Rosatom”.

For how long will CBN continue to defend the naira?



Nigerians’ penchant for foreign goods has continued to put pressure on the nation’s external reserves and the exchange rate. In the last four months – April to August- a total of $14.95 billion left the shores of Nigeria as payments made by Central Bank of Nigeria on behalf of the public. Of this amount, cash sales to Bureaux de Change, where those who purchase foreign exchange in small quantity buy from, amounted to $2.2 billion while letters of credit for direct importation amounted to $157.5 million.

Confirmed: UK has been sending gas chemicals to Syria for 6 years




British companies sold chemicals to Syria that could have been used to produce the deadly nerve agent that killed 1,400 people, The Mail on Sunday revealed today. Between July 2004 and May 2010 the Government issued five export licences to two companies, allowing them to sell Syria sodium fluoride, which is used to make sarin. Our source has previously reported on US companies adding chemicals used for sarin production to toothpastes and shampoos on a daily basis and UK pharmacies legally selling these chemicals to Syrians.

Students don’t want ASUU to end strike – ASUU president, Dr Isa Fagge -( True Or False ??)



The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it is continuing its nationwide strike on the advice of university students.
In a telephone interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, the President of the union, Dr. Isa Fagge, said students were tired of the incessant industrial actions by the university lecturers due to the Federal Government’s failure to implement the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.

Fagge said the union had decided to heed the advice of the students to continue the strike until the Federal Government fully implemented the agreement.

The US National Security Agency (NSA) snoops on people by accessing user data from smart phones manufactured by all companies, new documents reveal. American spies can tap into iOS, Android, and even BlackBerry systems.
The US spying agency can get access to such data as contact lists, SMS traffic, notes and location information about where a user has been, said the documents obtained by Der Spiegel.

Just In: Turkey scrambles warplanes after blast on Syria border



Several Turkish F-16 warplanes took off from base in southeastern Diyarbakir after large explosion close to Syrian border, local media reported on Sunday.

Turkey’s Sabah newspaper reported that the warplanes were headed toward Syrian border, according to Bloomberg news agency.

Armed Nigerian Police Invade Headquarters of New PDP in Abuja



Armed policemen have been dispatched to seal up the secretariat of the new faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

The office building located at Plot 320, off Onyi River Crescent, Maitama, was opened by the Kawu Baraje-led new PDP that broke away last week during the special convention of the party.

An Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) and police Hilux vehicles were stationed around the building to prevent anyone from entering or leaving the building.

The woman, a nurse at Chitungwiza Central Hospital had been sleeping with her husband while she was away. Tatenda Mudavanhu who was a beauty therapist in South Africa stumbled on the naked pictures of her husband’s lover Susan Magutakuwona of Unit C in Chitungwiza on her return. Secondary School Principal Found Dead In A Gutter



The principal of Ijokodo Junior Secondary School 1, Ibadan, Oyo State Mr Segun Dare, was on Wednesday, found dead along the street to his home at Citaga area, Sango-Eleyele road, face down in a gutter, with his mobile handset in his pocket and a polythene bag containing soup ingredients.
It was gathered that the deceased left his home in the afternoon of Tuesday, September 3, to go to a first generation bank along Sango-Eleyele road but could not do what he intended doing there as he got there late and he reportedly called his wife and told her that he did not achieve his objective, informing her that he was returning home immediately.
