The Untold Story Of Bisi Komolafe's Mysterious Death




The Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into a mourning mood on Monday, December 31st, 2012 when news broke that popular Yoruba movie star, Bisi Komolafe is dead.
The talented thespian died at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. Findings revealed that Bisi battled with an undisclosed illness that kept her in and out of hospital for more than 3 months. 
A close friend of the actress revealed to us that Bisi was a few weeks pregnant before the illness started, and that the pregnancy had to be terminated at the hospital to save her life when her condition got worse.

Gunmen Kill Son Of Oba-Elect In Ondo Riverside Community





Police authorities are investigating the murder of Orioye Oyetakin, the 23-year-old first child of a traditional ruler elect (Olikan) in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. 
The late prince was killed on December 27 last year.  His murder is the second to have occurred in the community. The Regent of the Town, Shem Omoreigha, was also murdered eight months ago by yet to be apprehended criminals.

Benin National Congress, BNC, a socio-cultural organisation in Edo State, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan not to consider running for the 2015 presidential election, if he fails to find solution to insecurity and crisis in the power sector.
President of BNC, Mr. Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, in his paper entitled Nigeria: Nation-State in Dire Need of Patriots, at the 2012 Merit Award ceremony organised by the group in Benin City, accused the political class of abandoning public institutions for selfish reasons, adding that kidnapping and restiveness were a fall-out of mis-governance.

The Osun State Government has announced a comprehensive plan for the state’s secondary school students to study Ifa as one of their subjects. 
The state Governor, Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola, said the schools’ computer tablet had application for Ifa studies.

Woman Jumps Out Of Moving Train To Escape Molestation




A woman travelling from New Jalpaiguri station in north Bengal on the Dibrugarh-Delhi Brahmaputra Express had to jump off the train to escape r*pe. According to railway officials, the woman was attacked near Ara, 50km west of Patna, by an army officer, identified as Rakesh Kumar, on her way to the bathroom. Seeing no escape route she jumped out of the moving train. The accused was captured by a co-passenger A.D. Upadhyaya, another army man attached to Assam Rifles, and was handed over to the police at Buxar railway station.

INEC Preparing Special Salary Scale For Its Staff To Lead Them Away From “Great Temptations” – Oluro




The Independent National Electoral Commission, it has been revealed, might be planning a special salary scale for its workers. National Commissioner of INEC in charge of South-West, Prof. Lai Olurode, made this known in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday. According to Olurode, the commission is seeking special pay for its workers to motivate them and to discourage them from engaging in electoral malpractice. He said, “The commission is working to make sure that the staff begin to enjoy a special salary scale. What the commission is doing is a special assignment and we know that the workers are open to great temptations, especially from politicians.
“The work is very risky and the workers who do their work as expected at times risk being killed. We hope that this would be granted before the 2015 election. We have started engaging the relevant authorities to make sure that this is done.” The INEC commissioner also added that INEC would do everything to make the workers happy in order to get the best from them.

The ugly trend of r*pe which is fast becoming a norm rather than an exception, took a dangerous dimension when a lady believed to be in her early twenties, was ganged-r*ped to an unconscious state by four men around Cemetery Road in Warri, Delta State. The victim, who is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital, was said to have boarded a taxi cab with four male passengers from Odion Road to her residence in Aguowe Street, Off Mac Demot Road.

A 17 year-old girl has reportedly given birth to siamese Twins (conjoined baby girls) at Maraba Medical centre located along the Abuja-Keffi expressway, in Nasarawa state. The girls were joined at the belly.A senior medical officer at the centre, Dr Makpu Habu said that there is hope that the children can survive and live a normal life if urgent medical attention is given to them. The father of the children, Ahmadu Sanni, while accepting the birth as the will of God, called on government, spirited individuals and philanthropists to come to their aid financially so as to raise the required amount for a surgery to separate the girls.

N60 billion to be spent on cellphones for farmers not true - Minister of Agriculture

My attention has been drawn to the issue of 60 Billion Naira to be spent on phones for farmers, reported in some media sites and papers. The information is absolutely incorrect. My Permanent Secretary was totally misquoted out of context. There is no 60 Billion Naira for phones anywhere. As a responsible Minister, who takes public accountability and probity very seriously, there is absolutely no way in the world that I will even contemplate or approve such an expenditure. All our focus as Government is on creating jobs in Nigeria, not exporting jobs elsewhere.

Dana Air Resumes flight Operations



Seven months after the plane crash that killed over 160 people, Dana Air will resume flight operations today 4th January 2013. The airline company's first flight is scheduled to take off from Abuja to Lagos by 7: 20 this morning. 

EFCC seize former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva's properties




The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released a statement yesterday saying they have seized 48 properties belonging to the former Governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Timipre Sylva who is being prosecuted at a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged misappropriation of N6.46 billion state funds when he was governor of the state. 

EFCC said: 
“Assets belonging to the former governor against which a forfeiture order was obtained by the EFCC include a mansion at 3 River Niger Street, plot 3192 Cadastral zone AO, Maitama District Abuja; nine units (comprising six one bedroom and 3 two bedroom apartments) at 8 Sefadu Street Wuse zone 2, plot 262 Cadastral zone AO2, Wuse Abuja; 2 units duplexes at 5 Oguta Street, plot 906 Cadastral zone Wuse 11 Abuja.

Nigerian student, Kevin Lakoju Allegedly Commits Suicide In India




According to The Times of India, a 28-year-old Nigerian student allegedly committed suicide after jumping off the second floor of his rented accommodation in Sector 41. Police said preliminary probe suggests that the deceased, Kelvin Lakoju, aka 'Biggie' was in depression.

Kelvin had been living in Noida since 2009 and was pursuing a photography course from an institute in Film City. Cops said he jumped off around 11pm on Wednesday January 2nd.
"We have questioned some people and came to know that he was upset for some reasons," said deputy SP, S Chinappa.
"His friends said Kelvin was good at studies. Some personal problem could be the reason for committing suicide," said a senior police officer.
Some sources do however allege that Kevin was pushed, others say he was killed then pushed. The Nigerian Embassy and the deceased's family have been informed about the incident. It is hoped that Nigerian authorities in India will do some investigation into the alleged suicide, and hopefully corroborate the suicide story, if indeed it was a suicide.

Kogi Speaker’s Convoy In Fatal Auto Crash




The convoy of the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mommoh Jimoh Lawal was involved in a fatal car crash on New Year Day along Okene-Lokoja Road. A police Constable, Akeem Lamidi, who was riding a Toyota truck alongside other policemen attached to the Speaker, died on the scene. The Speaker was said to be travelling to his Okene home town when a heavy duty truck ran into his escort van. Just last week, the governor of the state, Idris Wada, was involved in a car crash that claimed the life of his ADC.

29 year old freelance photographer, Chris Guerra (pictured above) died on Tuesday night after being run over by a vehicle after taking pictures of Justin Bieber's white $200,000 Ferrari in Los Angeles. Chris had been tailing Justin's car when it was pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers. Justin wasn't behind the wheel when the car was pulled over by police...but Chris thought he was and wanted to capture themoment. He got out of his car to take pictures but was struck by a Toyota Highlander SUV as he was running back to his own vehicle after being told to return to his vehicle repeatedly by police.

Muslim Couple Sue School That Banned Their Daughter's Hijab




A school is being sued by a Muslim couple after it banned pupils from wearing the traditional Islamic headscarf.They launched their legal battle with St Cyprian's Greek Orthodox primary in south London after withdrawing their nine-year-old from the school when she was banned from wearing one.The parents say it would be a sin for their daughter's head to be uncovered while in the presence of male teachers as she has 'reached puberty'.

FG To Distribute 10m Mobile Phones To Farmers





The Federal Government on Wednesday said that no fewer than 10 million cell phones would be  distributed to farmers to boost agricultural production in  the country.
Mrs Ibukun Odusote, the Permanent Secretary in the  Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said this at a sensitisation programme for farmers at Igan-Ipabi in Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun.

2 Men Arraigned For Allegedly Stealing He-Goat In Ibadan




Two men, Defile Adeniji, 38, and Gbenga Adelakun, 49, appeared before an Oyo Chief Magistrate’s Court Wednesday for allegedly stealing a goat.Prosecutor Adedotun Alarape told the court that the accused persons stole the he-goat on December 24, 2012. Alarape added that the goat, belonging to John Adejumo of Biguns Compound, Awe, Oyo, was valued at N3,500.The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Jejelola Ogunbona granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N10,000 with one surety each.
The magistrate adjourned the case to January 9, for mention.
