British secret agency, M16, police behind £3,000 visa bond against Nigeria – REPORT -
A report from a United Kingdom based journal, University World News, has said the £3,000 visa pilot scheme against Nigeria was proposed by the British intelligence service, MI6 and British police headquarters at Scotland Yard.
The new UK visa scheme will impose £3,000 (US$4,740) in charges on unspecified visa applicants thought to be ‘high risk visitors’ from Nigeria, Ghana, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
The Nigerian government has threatened retaliatory measures if London goes ahead with the ‘refundable’ but unpopular visa bond.

Gov Suntai's letter to Taraba Assembly; Femi Falana demands police investigation
Senior lawyer and political activist, Femi Falana (SAN), yesterday sent a petition to the Inspector General of Police demanding a detailed investigation of the letter purportedly sent to the Taraba State House of Assembly by Governor Danbaba Suntai yesterday indicating he is ready to resume office.
Governor Suntai returned to Nigeria on Sunday after 10 months away receiving treatment and rehabilitation for serious brain injuries he received when an aircraft he was piloting crashed in October 2012. Reports say he appeared bewildered and uncoordinated as he arrived, needing help and not speaking.

Police bullet kills 60-year-old deejay, wife demands justice
Wife of a 60-year-old deejay, Adamson Bello, who was killed last Sunday by a stray bullet fired by a policeman attached to the Okokomaiko Police Division, Lagos State, has called for justice.
Modinatu, 50, said the police did not only shoot her husband, they also frustrated efforts to get him medical treatment because the family could not obtain a police report demanded by the hospital.
Modinatu, who was married to the late deejay for 30 years before the relationship was terminated by the police bullet, explained to PUNCH Metro that Adamson was hit in the chest a few metres from their house.
Our correspondent learnt that the shot was fired by one of the policemen guarding a new hotel in the area, South Bound Hotel.

When Nonso Ozoemena, a 28-year-old man, arrived in Lagos, his plan was to set up a business so that he would be able to support his widowed mother and his seven siblings in Anambra State.
Soon after, he was able to open a restaurant in Trade Fair Complex, FESTAC, and it seemed his dream was coming true.
His expectation was however eroded after a drunken police corporal, Mohammed Abubakar, shot him in the eye. Ozoemena said he was shot in the eye in the FESTAC area on August 5, 2013.

LAGOS — Pandemonium broke out in Aka Town, Iba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, yesterday, after an electrician, Mr. Adamson Bello, was allegedly shot dead by a yet to be identified policeman attached to the South Bound Hotel.
The incident which occurred at about 9:00 pm on Sunday at the hotel, located at 5, Elias Lane threw the entire town into mourning, as many were yet to come to terms with the reality that Adamson, who was popularly called Baba Fasilat, could be shot dead innocently.

Lagos Police Kills Two Bandits Trying to Rob Pentecostal Church
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two armed bandits, who engaged a police patrol team in a gun duel while trying to rob a Pentecostal Church at Meiran, Ijaiye/Ojokoro Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The spokesperson of Ngozi Braide, Lagos Police, confirmed the incident, praised the policemen for effective neutralising of the robbers. Aba Police Area Command nabs a 40-year-old Gay Pastor
ABA— The Aba Police Area Command has arrested a 40-year-old Prophet/Pastor, Benjamin Ndubuisi, for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 23-year-old man.
Investigations revealed that the prophet whose church is located at 89 Ukaegbu Road, Ogbor Hill has been involved in the unholy act with the victim since he engaged him as a worker in his church.
The suspect, Benjamin Ndubuisi.Trouble started for the prophet when his victim who gave his name as Ndukwe took ill two weeks ago and worried by his continued deteriorating health condition, confessed to his family about the secret love affairs between him and the gay prophet.

Chidi Lloyd sues the Nigerian police ₦50billion for sick therapy
Whilst in their custody, embattled Rivers State law maker Chidi Lloyd claims he was blindfolded, battered and tortured by the Nigerian police and for that, he wants ₦50 billion as compensation. His legal team made this known today after Chidi Lloyd was granted bail with a Rivers State high court. The presiding judge also ordered that the majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly should not be rearrested by the police. The case was adjourned till August 12th.
If he's asking for ₦50billion for ill treatment, then a colleague he nearly killed with a mace must certanly be asking for what na??.

Army & Police Prevent Church Burning By Mob In Abuja
A joint effort by the Nigerian army and police earlier today prevented the attempted burning of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nyanya area of the federal capital territory in Abuja .
Sources at the church told SaharaReporters that trouble started when a Hausa-speaking Muslim man in the area was prevented from parking his car too close to the church building. The measure was put in place as a way of preventing Islamist militants from attacking Christian places of worship on Sundays.

“The Divisional Police Officer,” this Punch correspondent replied.After being informed the DPO was not around, the visitor requested to see the divisional crime officer.
While being led into the arrival room of the police station, which is popularly called the charge room, he was welcomed by three photographs hanging on the walls, directly opposite the entrance of the station.

Police, hoodlums accused of killing undergraduate, friend
Policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State, and some hoodlums have been accused of killing a 25-year-old undergraduate of Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem.
An eight-minute video clip of the gruesome killing, which was made available to PUNCH Metro, showed the two victims handcuffed together. They were covered in their own blood and beaten to death with sticks. Tyres were also put round their necks.
An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.”Continue

Murder Of Alleged Prostit-ute: Abia Police Nab Two Suspects [PHOTO]
Two suspects are currently telling the Abia State Police Command what they know about the death of a 16-year-old girl, whose name was simply given as Esther. The decomposing body of Esther, said to be from Ebonyi State was found in an uncompleted building around the Cattle Market, Gariki, in Lokpanta, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
Until her death, Esther was alleged to be a girl of easy virtue, a trade she was said to have plied at the Lokpanta Cattle Market.
The suspects, Uchenna Okorie and Levi Nwankwo, are currently with the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, where they are helping the police in their investigation into what happened to Esther.

Police Kill Kidnapper, Rescue Two Chinese In Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has rescued two Chinese nationals from kidnappers in Ogijo area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the victims, Sung Jiang She and Zhang Wen Xue, who are employees of Lee Group of Companies, were kidnapped at Odongunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State and taken to a house at Sagamu-Ikorodu Road.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the police were able to trace the kidnappers to their hideouts and a gun duel ensued during which one of the kidnappers was killed.
He said, “Around 3pm on Monday, the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2, Mammam Tsafe, called the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, informing him that two Chinese nationals had been kidnapped at Odongunya, Ikorodu, Lagos state.

N’Assembly to reject emergency rule
Organised labour and civil society groups are planning a showdown with the Federal Government should the crisis in Rivers State remain intractable.
The groups told our correspondents on Saturday that the mass action had become necessary because of the breakdown of law and order in the state which was threatening the nation’s democracy.
Even though the Presidency has washed its hands off the crisis in the state, there have been reports that President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, Patience, and their loyalists are behind the crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly.
A civil rights group, Anti-Corruption Network, on Saturday threatened that the Presidency should prepare for the “Egyptian treatment.”

OPC murder: Police arraign four
The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday arraigned four suspects before the Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court over the murder of Sulaiman Jimoh.
PUNCH Metro had reported on July 5, that Jimoh, 27, was tortured to death by some members of the Oodua People’s Congress for allegedly stealing a lackberry phone. He was said to have been flogged with sticks and electric wires.
The two counts read in part, “That you, Kola Oladipupo, Ekene Ezenwa, Jude Ezeobi, Lukman Olamide, on the 23rd day of June, 2013 at about 0430hrs, at NEPA B/stop, Ijora Badia, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 231 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
