Driver Killed By Passenger Over ₦10 In Benin City , Edo State

On Monday December 16th, 2013, a wicked bus passenger was arrested by Edo State police officials for allegedly killing an innocent bus driver over the weekend.

The young commercial bus driver identified as Eze was believed to be in his late 20′s while the woman that killed him is 38-year-old.

Last Saturday, Eze died when his bus passenger strangled him while holding on to his manhood.

Boko Haram Force Nigeria to import tomatoes from Benin..



Importation of tomatoes from Benin Republic and other neighbouring countries by Nigerians particularly across the Seme border is on the increase following the Boko Haram insurgence in the North- East of the country famous for tomato farming. As a result, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has collected over N5million baggage fees from such imports in just two months.  A trip to Benin Republic by Financial Vanguard reporter, where tomato farms are rapidly springing up showed that the import of the vegetable has become a big business for both the producers in Benin Republic and buyers of the produce in Nigeria.

Relics of normal life in time past are much sought after in sacrificial preparations. Some of these objects and materials, to the uninitiated, are very hard to come by.

To the uninitiated, seeing a tortoise could probably be at the zoo, but for those who indulge in sacrificial practices, they know where exactly to go, they know the right market and they know the right people to call on. The traditional Oliha and Ekiosa markets in Benin City are the right places to go if one needs those rare animals, native chalks, coins and several other materials which have spent over two hundred years.

The meeting of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National dialogue with stakeholders in the South-South today ended in confusion, following an outburst from participants against a remark made by Governor Adams Oshiomhole. Pius Nsogho reports that Governor Oshiomhole was whisked far from the venue by his security details when the specific situation became tense.

Just in: Nollywood Star Shot Dead in Benin



Nollywood star, Flavian Okojie, has been shot dead in Benin, the Edo State capital. Okojie, who just got married NTA presenter Omo-kivie Adeola three weeks ago had many fans all over Nigeria.  His widow in her distress posted a facebook update  indictating her despair.

Images: President Jonathan hosts president Yayi of Benin Republic



 President Goodluck Jonathan met Sunday at the Presidential Villa with the President Boni Yayi of neighbouring Benin Republic. Both leaders attended Sunday service together at the Villa Chapel before proceeding to the presidential residence for lunch and bilateral talks.
 
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo worshipped with President Jonathan and President Yayi at the Presidential Villa but didn't take part in the talks between them.

18 people Died in A terrible accident on Benin-Lagos expressways



The Toyota Hiace bus and a truck loaded with gravel were involved in a head-on collusion along the Benin-Lagos express road killing 18 passengers.  The incident occurred near Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State led to a serious gridlock as passengers and drivers made frantic effort to save the life of the victims.

Edo State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Kenneth Nwaegbe, confirmed on phone, yesterday, that 18 persons were roasted alive, while two other children survived the incident.

Among the dead were said to be 15 adults and two kids while the driver of the truck was said to have died in the accident.

BENIN : Gunmen kill soldier, kidnap an Israeli in Benin




 Gunmen yesterday, in Benin, Edo State, killed a Soldier on guard duty at  SETRACO Construction Company yard and kidnapped an Israeli working with the company.
Vanguard gathered that another soldier was reportedly shot and wounded, while a third soldier, also on guard duty was said to have escaped the attack launched by the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
It was also learnt that the kidnap victim, whose name could not be established at press time, is said to be a staff of SETRACO working on the Upper Mission Road in Benin.

When contacted, yesterday, 4 Brigade Army spokesperson, Capt. Roslyn Managbe, said she was yet to be briefed on the incident.

OMG!! Benin Criminals: Man Rap-éd Housewife, Inserted Bottle In Her Priva-té Part



Last Monday June 24, 2013, Benin City residents woke up without knowing that a hang man was in town to snuff life out of four death row prisoners: Chima Ejiofor, Daniel Nsofor, Osarerenmwenda Aigbonkhan and Richard Igagu.

Their journey to death began on 26th September 2012, when Governor Adams Oshiomhole signed the death warrants of two of the convicted criminals, Daniel Nsofor and Aigbonkhia; while former Governor Lucky Igbinedion signed that of two others.
The prison where in actuality the gallows was situated is along the busy Sapele Road and while the environmental surroundings may look peaceful, on that fateful day, the prison wardens and the hang man were busy organizing the execution of the convicts.

Protest in Benin after police kill and bury UNIBEN student




 Students of the University of Benin yesterday Wednesday June 5th marched round the streets of Benin, protesting the death of one of their own, a final student named Ibrahim Momodu, who was allegedly killed and hurriedly buried by men of the Ogida police station, in Benin.

According to reports, Ibrahim Momodu (pictured above) was allegedly killed on May 27th by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogida station, Carol Afebgai (pictured above, right).

According to the deceased elder sister, Rebecca Egbe, Ibrahim was shot dead and buried the next day without the family even knowing he was dead.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Eguavoen later told newsmen that Momodu was an armed robber, saying that a gun, bullets, two mobile phones and a bag was found on him. The family deny this. They say Momodu was not an armed robber and are asking for justice for their son.

Over 100 people burnt to death in accident on Benin-Ore Expressway



That's a photo from the scene sent to me by a LIB reader. The accident occurred this afternoon at Igbogui village in Benin and involved three heavy duty vehicles; a Young Shall Grow Motors luxury bus, a fuel tanker with registration number GA 71 XA, and a Dangote truck carrying cement. 

Over 100 people were burnt to death when the fuel tanker exploded following the accident. The fire spread to surrounding shops and burnt several cars packed nearby. Survivors have been rushed to the hospital while rescue efforts by the Federal Road Safety Corps & Civil Defence Corps continues.

Robbers - Kidnappers abduct 5 Lagos bound passengers along Benin-Sagamu rd



Robbing is not enough since most people don't carry cash anymore due to technology advancement as they prefer to carry ATM card. Robing on highways have changed as well. They are now kidnapping passengers on highways. According to Vanguard, 5 passengers on a Lagos-bound vehicle were kidnapped on Wednesday morning by gunmen on the Lagos-Benin road near Ogbemudia farms. 

The passengers, traveling in a Greener Line space wagon Siena bus travelling from Warri to Lagos  ran into a barricade along the Benin-Ore- Sagamu-Lagos road. The bus driver sighting the barricade, which was a truck, slowed down.

EFCC Arraigns Seven Oil Thieves In Benin



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday February 26, 2013, arraigned seven suspected oil thieves before Justice A. M. Liman of the Federal High Court 1, Benin City, on separate charges bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in Petroleum Products.

The accused persons: Paul Ojo, Oduwere Edobor, Lucky Okorie, Andrew Anthony, Kadiri Aloysious, James Aker and Lucky Egbede who were arrested at locations and dates, had in their possessions a truck, bus and kegs loaded with litres of substance suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). They all pleaded not guilty to the charges respectively.

“Miracles Are Mysteries” – Evangelist Who Delivered Woman Of Horse Birth In Benin



Evangelist Silver Wealth Iyamu, the General Overseer of the World Liberation Ministry, found himself in a controversy September 11, 2012 when a woman was said to have been barren for over fifteen years after marriage allegedly delivered a creature that looked like a horse in his church located in the heart of Benin City.
The incident attracted attention both from Nigeria and abroad and it was reported by Sunday Vanguard. It would be recalled that while a consultant gynecologist, Dr. Jerry Uwaifo, said it was not medically possible for a woman to deliver an animal, the church members insisted that it was a miracle.

EFCC arrests 20 internet fraudsters in Benin



Press statement from EFCC...
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested twenty suspected internet fraudsters. The arrest which was carried out in a joint operation with officers of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Benin, followed intelligence report on their activities. They were nabbed in a surprise raid on their Cyber office tucked in an old building located on Siluko Road, Benin City.
At the point of arrest, the fraudsters had in their possession forty five (45) laptops of different make, twenty eight (28) telephone sets, eight (cool internet mobile modems and one Nissan car with registration number USL 375 AG.

Asari Dokubo Adopts Benin Republic, Dumps Nigerian Citizenship




Notorious for his role as a Militant commander in the Niger Delta who led his army of well armed youths against the Nigerian state and made even more famous recently for his volte face in supporting his benefactor, Goodluck Jonathan, Mujahid Asari Dokubo has taking his tantrums to a whole new level by denouncing his Nigerian citizenship. 
According to him, “In protest against the inability of Nigeria to grant IJAW REPUBLIC, I have relocated my corporate investments to Benin Republic. Benin is my adopted homeland today”.
