Ghana plans to export electricity to Nigeria



Ghanaian president John Mahama, said that there are plans by his govt to start exporting electricity generated in Ghana to Nigeria and other West African countries. He said this while speaking at the Global Business and Economic Forum in Dubai yesterday October 1st,
"We have given priority to electricity generation in our country. We have prioritized energy in such a way that we want to become the hub for power production in West Africa. We want to generate electricity to the point that excess power can be exported to Nigeria, Ivory Coast and other countries that have power deficit,” he said.

T.B Joshua warns people to stop talking bad about his church, claims he saw building collapse coming



During his Sunday September 28th message to his church members, prophet T.B Joshua said he saw the Friday 12th church building collapse happen in a vision. He also warned people to desist from speaking bad about the church and questioning his calling. He said those who are speaking evil of his ministry will suffer for it. Commanders-in-chief: From 1960 To Date





Nigeria became an independent nation on 1 October, 1960 and a republican country three years later and it was then we began having a Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces starting with Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the ceremonial Head of State. It was only during the First Republic when the office was separated from that of the Prime Minister or the President. Alhaji Tafawa Balewa was the only Head of the Government who was not the Commander-in-Chief because we were practising the Parliamentary System of Government imposed by the British government.

Borno state Governor grants 22 prisoners amnesty to mark independence




Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, today October 1st granted 22 prison inmates amnesty during an unscheduled visit to the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison in celebration of Nigeria's independence. Governor Shettima said the amnesty granted to the prisoners followed the recommendation of the State Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy. 

UN Secretary General Condemns Donetsk School Shelling in East Ukraine





UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the shelling of a school in east Ukraine's besieged city of Donetsk and described the incident as "particularly alarming," UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the press on Wednesday.

In Donetsk, the feast of the "first of September" (the beginning of the school year was postponed to October 1) troops again staged a brutal shooting of civilians with heavy weapons. This morning, around 10:30 under attack from multiple rocket launchers "Grad" hit area of the city of Donetsk, Kiev intersection of Prospect Street and polygraphic. One shell hit a passenger bus. At least eight people were killed on the spot, six of whom died an agonizing death on the street by shell splinters. The vehicle burned to the ground, firefighters did not have time to put out the flames. The school children were killed.

Graphic: Teenage girl left disfigured after 'jealous rivals mutilate her for being too pretty'



15 year old Argentinian Julia Alvarez was left disfigured after two jealous girls slashed her face with knives because she was 'too pretty'. The two girls, who are sisters, have since been arrested. Julia later told police the girls said they wanted to make her look like horror movie character, Chucky.

Julia said she was walking home in the town of Juan Domingo Peron, in the northern Argentinian province of Formosa, when the girls aged 18 and 16 attacked her without any provocation.

"Everyone says you are pretty. You won't look pretty when we have finished with you. People will call you Chucky." - Julia claims this is what the girls told her before slashing her face...

Graphic video of B'Haram members killed after attack in Konduga




Boko Haram has carried out at least 9 attacks on the town of Konduga, Borno State since September 12th, 2014. This video footage shows the Boko Haram fatalities after one of the attacks. If you observe, many of the corpses look like those of kids, some of the Civilian JTF members (the guys with guns and RPG rounds walking around) also look like they are teens.

General Murtala Muhammed, Nigeria’s 4th Head of State, is regarded as one of the best and progressive leaders Nigeria ever had. He was in power from July 29, 1975 to February 13, 1976 when he was assassinated in an abortive coup attempt led by Lt. Col Buka Suka Dimka. He was succeeded by General Olusegun Obasanjo who completed General Murtala’s plan to return Nigeria to a civilian rule in 1979. Murtala’s portrait is on the 20 Naira note and Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos was named after him.

Boko Haram: Nigeria Military Arrest ICT Expert behind Terrorist Videos



Vanguard reports the foreigner was arrested with some sophisticated equipment and copies of some of the videos the terrorists had sent to online media houses on their escapades, including that of the abducted Chibok girls. Military sources disclosed that the computer analyst who is currently being 
interrogated was responsible for configuring computer images website and internet accesses for the group.

Buhari to inaugurate Ekiti square





Activities marking the fourth anniversary of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi administration continued on Wednesday with the official commissioning of the 12,000 seater Ekiti Parapo Square in Ado-Ekiti.

The square which is one of the projects of the Fayemi administration would be inaugurated by a former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), supported by other eminent Nigerians.

Govt adopts new pre-shipment inspection for used vehicles



The Federal Government on Tuesday said it would begin a new pre-shipment verification of conformity to standards on used vehicles coming into the country.  The Director-General, Standards Organisation, of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, disclosed this while speaking shortly after the signing of an agreement for the implementation of the conformity to standards of used vehicles.  He said the move was part of efforts aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of the new automotive policy of the government.

Fayose led thugs to beat judges, CJ tells NJC





The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, has tabled before the National Judicial Council ahead of the council’s meeting scheduled for Thursday, a petition accusing the state’s Governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, and the police of complicity in the attack on judges and court workers in the state last week.

A copy of the September 26, 2014 petition addressed to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police of which was also attached to a covering letter sent to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, as the Chairman of the NJC, was exclusively obtained by The PUNCH from a police source in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

Daily life in Ukraine - Graphic Photo




In Kharkov, a man was found impaled on a church fence, his body attached with electrician's tape to the fence.  Medical gloves were found on the site.  According to witnesses, he was killed by Right Sector activists on suspicion of being a sympathizer of Novorussia.  According to official police reports, this man impaled himself and, presumably, having done that, found the time and energy to securely attach himself to the fence with tape.

1st case of the deadly Ebola virus diagnosed on US soil has occurred





The first case of the deadly Ebola virus diagnosed on US soil has occurred. A Texas man who just returned from Liberia to the US has tested positive to the deadly Ebola virus. Announcing the development today September 30th, America's Center for Disease Control said the unidentified man was asymptomatic when he arrived back from Liberia recently and only started showing suspicious symptoms yesterday, prompting his immediate check-in into a Dallas hospital where it was confirmed he had the dreaded viral disease after preliminary test was carried out on him. He has now been placed on strict isolation while a trace of all contacts he's made since his return back to America has commenced.

Ekiti and the politics of the absurd



Ekiti kete should be in mourning over the repeated acts of partisan political brutalities in their otherwise apparently monolithic state. The state’s image as “the fountain of knowledge,” is fast giving way to a notorious one, namely, that of “the furnace of partisan political violence.” The notoriety of Ekiti politicians’ engagement in partisan politics dates back to 1983, when Ekiti was still part of the larger Ondo State from which it was separated in 1996.

Lack of unity cause of Nigeria’s problems – Jonathan





President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said most of the problems facing the country had been persisting because Nigerians lacked the needed unity to confront them.

He said if citizens had confronted the challenges in the same manner they confronted the Ebola Virus Disease recently, they would have become things of the past.

Jonathan spoke at the 54th Independence Anniversary Interdenominational Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

S-400 Air Defense Regiment Takes up Duty in Russia's South




The S-400 Triumf air defense missile system regiment that was deployed in the Southern Military District, has taken up combat duty near the Russian city of Krasnodar, the press service of the district reported Tuesday.

"An air defense missile system regiment of the 4th Air and Air Defense Forces Command of the Southern Military District has taken up combat duty in the Krasnodar region. It is equipped with the advanced S-400 Triumf and Pantsir-S missile systems," the press service said.

Edo State passes ₦159.3bn 2015 budget




The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday signed the 2015 budget estimate of N159.3bn into law.

The governor had on September 23, 2014 presented to the state house of assembly a budget proposal of N156.551bn for consideration.

Consequently, the lawmakers passed the appropriation bill, shoring it up by N3bn.

Speaking after appending his signature, Governor Oshiomhole expressed confidence that the state government would do everything possible to ensure that the “laudable objectives” contained in the budget were realised.
