Borno state Governor grants 22 prisoners amnesty to mark independence




Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, today October 1st granted 22 prison inmates amnesty during an unscheduled visit to the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison in celebration of Nigeria's independence. Governor Shettima said the amnesty granted to the prisoners followed the recommendation of the State Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

Monarch, 15 others killed in Borno state



Suspected members of Boko Haram yesterday July 24th, invaded and attacked Garubula village in Biu LGA of Borno State, killing the District Head, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi, and 11 others, the Nation reports. The sect members also invaded the homes of two members of the local vigilante group, dragged them out and took them to a river bank in Gamboru Ngala, a border town with Cameroon Republic and killed them. There are also reports that two people suspected to be a motorist and a passenger were ambushed and shot dead along the Maiduguri – Gamboru Ngala road. The Maiduguri – Gamboru Ngala road came under attack on Tuesday July 22nd by terrorists with the blowing of the bridge linking the town with Cameroon Republic.

Military confirms trial of soldiers that revolted in Borno state



The military has confirmed the trial of soldiers who allegedly opened fire at an automobile carrying the former Commanding Officer of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed in May 2014.(Read here)

A spokesman for the military, Colonel Nwanchukwu Onyema, who spoke at the joint briefing of the National Information Centre did not give details of the charges against the soldiers on trial, he told journalists that details of their offences would be made public after investigations are completed. Funds to To continue B'haram ? Borno State to spend ₦150m to rehabilitate 53 escapee girls, parents



Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, yesterday announced that the state government would be spending N150million for the rehabilitation of the 53 chibok girls that escaped from Boko Haram captivity as well as their parents whose source of livelihood was affected by the abduction, Sahara Reporters reports.
The Governor made this announcement when he received the Presidential Fact Finding Committee on the missing girls in his office yesterday. Gov Shettima decried the notion by some people that the missing Chibok girls was a scam or that it was a staged attempt by the state government to stop emergency rule extension in the state. Letter of protest against maltreatment of Borno state govt officials by the presidency



Two journalists have written a letter of protest over what they describe as the "maltreatment and humiliation" of some Borno State officials when they were summoned to the State House by Pres. Jonathan on Saturday May 3rd and Sunday May 4th

Genocide of the highest Order: Boko Haram kills 106 people in fresh attack in Borno state.



According to reports, Boko Haram members launched a fresh attack on indigenes of Izghe, a Christian community in Gwoza LGA of  Borno State, killing 106 people on Saturday February 15th.   According to eye witnesses, the men who came dressed in military attire, chanted Allah is great as they slit the throats of the people they came across and also fired gun shots at them. Some of the victims were made to come out of their homes and were then killed in an execution like manner.

Confirming the attack, Senator Ali Ndume who represents that senatorial district in the National Assembly says 106 people were killed including an old woman.
"106 people, including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen. Sixty of the dead have been buried while the rest are awaiting burial,” he said.

Boko Haram launches assault on Bama Army Barracks In Borno State, Many Killed




Several Boko Haram militants in the first hours of today attacked the 202 Army Battalion Barracks situated in Bama, about 40 kilometers outside Maiduguri town, and killed several women and children.

The Islamic sect, in accordance with a source in the barracks, struck around 3am local time, firing heavy arms and ammunition.
