US State Department Warns Citizens Against Visiting Crimea, East Ukraine




The US Department of State has issued a new travel warning urging US citizens to put off their travel to Crimea and conflict-torn eastern Ukraine.

The State Department warned US citizens "to defer all travel to the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk" in a new travel warning issued Monday, as violent clashes continue in parts of the regions despite the Minsk ceasefire agreement, resulting in "thousands of injuries and deaths." The new travel advice supersedes a previous warning issued in August last year.

UN Secretary General Condemns Donetsk School Shelling in East Ukraine





UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the shelling of a school in east Ukraine's besieged city of Donetsk and described the incident as "particularly alarming," UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the press on Wednesday.

East Ukraine preparing for siege



Unknown attackers blew up a railway bridge near Donetsk on Monday. It was the main route connecting central Ukraine and eastern regions of the country, Reuters reports. At the same time self-defense forces of eastern Ukraine announced that as of now they will have their own assault aviation and anti-aircrat guns which they seized from the Ukrainian army. 

For three months now there are ongoing armed clashes in eastern Ukraine between self-defense forces and the national guard. Kiev announced that it intends to take the territory of Lugansk and Donetsk regions under state control. Only the previous Monday Ukrainian army forced the militia fighters to retreat from Slavyansk surrendering the town to the Ukrainian army, which Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko called a turning point.

400 US commandos help Kiev in its military offensive in east Ukraine - reports



About 400 elite commandos of a notorious US private security firm, Academi, are involved in a punitive operation mounted by Ukraine’s new government against federalization supporters in eastern Ukraine, the German Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, Academi mercenaries participate in attacks against federalization supporters near Slavyansk. So far, it’s unclear who hired them.
In April 29, Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) informed the Angela Merkel government about Academi commandos’ involvement in Kiev’s military operations in eastern Ukraine.
