Fifth drone strike in less than two weeks in Yemen - Report

A US drone strike killed seven suspected Al-Qaeda militants in Yemen. The operation followed the official announcement of Yemeni officials that Al Qaeda plans to seize two major oil and gas export terminals and a provincial capital. Arab nations remain on high alert following threats of a terror attack, which prompted Washington to shut down 19 diplomatic facilities in the Middle East and North Africa. It was the fifth drone strike in less than two weeks in Yemen, where Al-Qaeda is rapidly gaining power. The Voice of Russia discussed the revival of US drone program and the current terrorist threat in the region with Sama'a Al-Hamdani, a Yemeni political analyst.

What prompted the revival of the drone program in Yemen?
I think that is the question that all of us wants to know the answer to. In Yemen on the ground we are not really sure what is going on. All we know is that the attack was picked up by the US and that a state of alarm happened in the country and then all over sudden we had 3 drone strikes 3 days in a row. Today is Eid. Many families are celebrating. The last thing they want to think about is “are we going to be droned tonight”. The problem is the Yemeni government is not really talking to the people and we are not sure what is going on.

Pres.Jonathan Didn’t Invite Me To Breakfast – Ibrahim Babaginda

A media report said on Tuesday that the former military president rebuffed the invitation by Mr. Jonathan. A statement from the former ruler’s aides said the report was utterly false, adding that at no time did Mr. Jonathan invite Mr. Babangida to a dinner let alone turning it down. It said Mr. Babangida had visited the president more than twice since the latter assumed office and that the meeting afforded the two leaders the opportunity to brainstorm on the challenges confronting the country. It added that by the report it would seem that there was bad blood between both leaders.
“The attention of General Ibrahim Babangida, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has been drawn to a newspaper publication stating that the former President turned down a breakfast invitation from His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Why Okonjo-Iweala should resign now!

She was recently listed as one of the most powerful women in the world. Her name conjures up the image of an Amazon who symbolises excellence and the height of intellectual achievement. She is by no means a role model and a worthy example of the level Nigerian women can attain if given the opportunity to excel. There is also no doubt that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is one of Nigeria’s proud exports. One cannot but admire her simplicity and self-effacing demeanour. Personally, I am in awe of her spartan fashion style.

GBAM: Any party that fields Jonathan’ll lose —APC **Opposition confused, desperate power mongers, says PDP

The All Progressives Congress  on Wednesday continued its war of words  with  the Presidency and the  Peoples Democratic Party over the suitability  of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan  for the presidential election.

Any party that fields Jonathan’ll lose —APC **Opposition confused, desperate power mongers, says PDP

While the APC believes that  fielding  Jonathan as a candidate would be suicidal for any party, the Presidency and the PDP argued  that he remains the best to contest and win a presidential poll in the country at present.
The latest war of attrition  was spurred by   Tuesday’s invitation  to the President by the APC Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, to join the newly formed political party if he was fed up with the crises  in  the PDP.
Akande  had said,  “We (the APC) don’t even close our door to the PDP. If Jonathan is tired of the crises in the PDP, he is welcome in the APC.”
The Presidency however reacted immediately  to the  invitation, saying   it was  an acknowledgment by the APC  of Jonathan’s sterling leadership qualities.

MUST READ: OUR FUTURE IS BLEEDING - Akan Imoh

I shed hot, bloody tears for the future of Nigeria. It is a pity that the so called 'Giant of Africa' is gradually becoming a grave.

Thank God for the squabble between the PDP and APC; at least, one thing that was achieved was the realization that we youths of this country have been totally sidelined from the most important things.

The average age of the Leaders in these two parties is sixty (60). According to one of them from the APC camp, the National Youth Leader of the PDP camp is seventy (70) years old; yet we say we are the future of Nigeria.
