Mum Is awoken By Cat To Find a 6 Foot Python Wrapped around her 2-year-old’s arm (PHOTOS)
An Australian woman was awoken by her hissing cat early Sunday to find a python wrapped around the arm of her 2-year-old daughter. Tess Guthrie, a 22-year-old from Lismore, New South Wales, said the 6-foot pytho was wrapped three times around her daughter’s arm. “I thought I was having a nightmare,” Guthrie told a local television news station. “It was only because the cat was hissing that I woke up and saw the snake with its body wrapped around my daughter Zara’s arm.”

Lagos light rail’ll be ready in June – Babatunde Fashola
The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said the first phase of the state Blue Light Rail project would be completed by June this year(2013). He expressed confidence that Lagosians would start enjoying the services of the lrail project immediately. The first phase would run from Marina and terminated at Okokomaiko area in Ojo Local Government. Fashola spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in the state which took him and his cabinet members to Orile-Iganmu, Alimosho and Ejigbo areas among others to assess the level of works being done by contractors.

Three injured in Lagos, Ogun accidents
Three persons sustained varying degree of injuries in separate auto accidents that occurred between Monday night and Tuesday in Ibafo area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State and Maryland, Lagos respectively. In the accident that occurred on Tuesday at the Maryland end of Ikorodu Road, an official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and an unidentified person were injured after four vehicles were involved in an accident.

Catholic Priest, Teacher Face Trial For Raping 10-Year-Old Alter Boy
Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a Roman Catholic priest and a former Catholic school teacher charged with sexually assaulting a former altar boy.
Four jurors were chosen on the first day of jury selection in the case against the Rev. Charles Engelhardt and Bernard Shero. The case had been spun off from last year's high-profile trial of a church official charged with helping the Philadelphia Archdiocese cover up abuse complaints. Engelhardt, 65, and Shero, 49, have pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting the boy in the late 1990s.

A police corporal assigned to the Wuse Zone 3 Police Division, Abuja, died on Monday at the National Hospital after rejecting blood transfusion.The husband of the deceased, Emmanuel Timothy, said in an interview, that his wife, Grace, who was a member of the Jehovah Witness, died because her family refused to consent to her having a blood transfusion.

Ondo Poll: Akeredolu Challenges Mimiko With 46 Lawyers
The Ondo State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and its Governorship Candidate, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, have presented 46 lawyers that will prosecute their petitions against Governor Olusegun Mimiko at the Governorship Election Tribunal.
The legal team, headed by Akin Olujinmi, has concluded its physical inspection of the documents used by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct the October 20 Governorship Poll. The findings are expected to be used at the trial of the case.

Pres. Jonathan pays close to N1b in ‘severance’ to Yar'Adua family
The presidency has paid nearly N1billion to the family of late President Umaru Yar'Adua, according to an official memo obtained by SaharaReporters. The slush funds were routed through the Katsina state government, the home state of the former president.The payment includes about N150 million to Mrs. Turai Yar'adua, as well as the late president's aged mother, his married daughters, and sons.

Nigerian man stabbed to death by his South African wife
Nigerian man, Tony Rholand (pictured above on the right) was stabbed to death by his South African wife, Lungi, at their home in Willims town, Cape Town, South Africa on Tuesday January 1st. The couple, who have a kid together, got into an argument in the early hours of January 1st and before anyone could stop it, Lungi stabbed Tony severally in the stomach. Tony died in the hospital a few hours later. Lungi has been arrested.

25 year old Hope Olusegun, and seven of his mates were arrested in December 2012 at the 1004 Housing Estate by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over allegations of fraud and internet scam.
The 'Yahoo Boys' who have been operating for quite a while lived a lavish lifestyle, bought the most expensive cars and showed off at every opportunity they got. One of the undergraduates, Hope Olusegun (pictured above) an indigene of Okene, Kogi State, had a Mercedes Benz SUV, and a 4Matic Mercedes Benz car and before he was arrested, he bought a Toyota Camry for his one year old son.

2 Pastors Jailed Ten Years Over N1 Billion Deposit Scam
A Nigerian High Court has sentenced two ‘men of God’, Pastor Glory Abrefera and Reverend Vincent Okpogo to 10 years imprisonment each over a N1 billion deposit scam.
Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Asaba, capital of Delta state, found the duo and their company, Mustard Seed Micro Investment Limited guilty on a four count charge of carrying out banking practice without licence.
The accused persons were said to have collected over N1 billion from different individuals and organizations as deposits in an illegal banking practice.They have also failed to account for all the deposits they collected.

R.I.P: Late Dele Giwa's mum dies at 87
Madam Elekiya Ayisat Giwa died in the early hours of this morning Tuesday January 8th at Aruna Ogun Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos after a brief illness. She was 87. Dele Giwa was the late Editor in Chief of Newswatch magazine who was assassinated with a parcel bomb on October 19, 1986.
