A probe alleging Nigeria has lost out on tens of billions of dollars in recent years through questionable practices in Africa’s biggest oil-and-gas industry has stirred controversy and calls for action.
The report from a government-appointed task force, headed by former anti-graft czar, Nuhu Ribadu, has not been officially made public, but leaked copies have generated strong responses from officials, the state oil firm and private companies, which dispute many of its findings.
Anti-corruption activists seeking changes to an industry that operates with little transparency and which has long been seen as awash with graft have however sought to pressure the government into addressing the problems alleged.

N5trillion Stolen Under President Jonathan - Punch Investigation
Over N5tn in government funds have been stolen through fraud, embezzlement and theft since President Goodluck Jonathan assumed office on May 6, 2010, a SUNDAY PUNCH investigation has found.
Our correspondents arrived at the stolen sum after poring over the reports of the various committees set up by the President to probe some sectors of the economy, particularly oil and gas. SUNDAY PUNCH also relied on disclosures by some senior government officials. Five trillion naira is the summation of government funds said to have been stolen, according to the Mallam Nuhu Ribadu-led Petroleum Task Force report; the Minister of Trade and Investment’s report on stolen crude; the House of Representatives fuel subsidy report and investigations into the ecological fund, SIM card registration and frequency band spectrum sale.

Comments On Insecurity : Obasanjo Fires Back At Gowon - How He Fell Out with Jonathan
General Gowon used the phrase on Obasanjo at the launch of a book, Stay At The Top, authored by a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), Omoniyi Komolafe, last week. Gowon’s remark was captured in the media thus: “Obasanjo is highly irresponsible to have made such comments about the present government.
Many people have condemned what he (Obasanjo) did in Odi and Zaki Biam. So, it was irresponsible for him to defend it or accuse the present administration.”

Police raid mainland clubs, Basketmouth's Embarssy lounge affected
On Friday November 23rd, the Nigerian police, without warning or any particular reason, raided four clubs located on University Road, Akoka, Yaba Lagos. The raid, led by the DPO from Yabo-Sabo police station, affected Basketmouth's EmBARssy lounge located at 12 University Rd, where at least 10 individuals were arrested without any reason. They were released the next day.
Four Die, 10 Injure In Ogun Auto Crash
Four people yesterday were reportedly killed while 10 sustained various degrees of injury in an auto crash that occured on Abeokuta-Lagos road in Onihale village in Ifo local government area of Ogun State.
According to an eye-witness, the accident involved a Lagos-bound bus with registration number Lagos XY178 LSR which skided off the road and summersaulted while coming from Abeokuta.
