Wike, Amaechi trade words

THE political crisis in Rivers State further deepened on Saturday when the supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, said the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, should stop playing God.
Wike made this remark during the inauguration of ward and chapter executives of the Grassroots Development Initiative in Abonnema, Rivers State.
Amaechi and the minister have been in a long drawn battle over who controls the Peoples Democratic Party in the state since the political crisis began.
The minister, who is the grand patron of the GDI, a group used to mobilise Rivers people for President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP, called on Amaechi to leave the PDP, saying, “Amaechi, pack and go. Your rent has expired.”

Jang, Amaechi clash again

I am of the opinion that the press should stop disturbing   the Nigerian public with the inability of the state governors to conduct a mere election of 35 persons. They all have shown that they are not true democrats-both the person that changed the rule to suit him by being the umpire in an election in which he is a major contender, and the person who failed to accept the outcome of an election simply because he lost. They are not the best the country can afford. I want to suggest the proscription of Nigeria Governors’ Forum  for it is of no value to an ordinary Nigerian. The forum is self-serving and their ongoing fight is over the nation’s money. Enough of all these distractions.

Bisi Akanda talks about Buhari, Jonathan, Amaechi and 2015

You were quoted as saying that the All Progressives Congress is not so keen on the presidency come 2015. What then is your focus?
I will rather say I was misquoted. How would there be a major party in 2013 and such party will not be keen about 2015? We are very much keen about 2015. The only thing I said, maybe, beclouded the one I did not say. What I said was that our preoccupation as an interim leadership of the APC was to mobilise and register members, to conduct congresses and convention to establish a good structure, a durable structure for the new party and that the priority now is the Anambra election and possibly, the Delta State senatorial election which will come up anytime from now.

Patience Jonathan opens up on rift with Amaechi

Contrary to her earlier denials of involvement in the political crisis rocking Rivers State, wife of   President Goodluck  Jonathan,  Patience,  on Wednesday opened up on the  matter.
She told 16 bishops from the South-South, who visited her at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that her misunderstanding with Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, started about four years ago in Anyugubiri in Okrika when she appealed to him  to engage  her people in dialogue instead of  demolishing  a part of their community.
Mrs. Jonathan  said the governor, whom she described as   “hot tempered,” did not only ignore her advice,  he went  a step further  by  sacking the chairman of  the  local government for holding a reception in her honour.
According to her, Amaechi did not only stop at those, he imposed a   curfew on the community, which is where she hails from.

Rivers state fracas: Presidency wants Governor Amaechi probed

The Presidency has advised security agencies to ensure that Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi was investigated and prosecuted after his tenure in office for his alleged involvement in Tuesday’s mayhem in the state House of Assembly.
The advice was given just as the Action Congress of Nigeria urged the Police Service Commission to address  the causes of the fracas in the House  rather than the symptoms in  its  investigation  of  the role of the police in the  crisis.
The comments by the Presidency and the ACN  followed a July 9  petition  by Amaechi  to Jonathan on the free for all  that led to infliction of injuries on some lawmakers following an attempt to impeach the Speaker of the House, Mr. Daniel Amachree by a group led by Mr. Evans Bipi. Amaechi had in the petition  which was also addressed to the PSC  Chairman,  Mike Okiro,  requested the immediate transfer of the Commissioner in charge of the state Police Command,  Joseph Mbu.
