PRESIDENT Goodluck  Jonathan yesterday in Maiduguri, accused Borno State Elders of playing to the gallary over the activities of Boko Haram Islamic sect insurgency in the state, describing the situation as unfortunate.
Jonathan spoke during an interactive session with Borno State stakeholders at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Government House Maiduguri, in continuation of his two- day working visit to Borno and Yobe States, the epicentres of Boko Haram.

Ibadan To Witness Weird Rainfall



The South-West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Mr Iyiola Akande,said this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in IbadanHe said the prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) was made available to NEMA to help it prepare for disaster mitigation.  Akande said the rainfall pattern in most parts of the country was likely to be similar to that of 2012, although Saki’s rainfall could be about 283mm above that of last year.

83% Oil Blocs To Northerners Unsettles Niger Delta, Group



A group in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Indigenous Movement for Radical Change (NDIMRC) on Friday threatened a total show down with the Federal Government over claims that northerners owns 83 percent of oil blocs  in the country.

The group threatened that it will resume hostilities in the Niger Delta if President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke, fail to revoke and re-allocate the controversial oil blocs.

Manufacturers of a wide array of condiments including the world famous ketchup Heinz was acquired by Warren Buffet’s Bershire Hathaway and 3G Capital for $23.3 billion last month. 3G Capital is notorious for making major budget cuts, and so William Johnson, Chairman, President and CEO of Heinz may be one of the cuts.
Oh, to be wise like Johnson! He has a line of financial plans that entitle him to a whopping total of $212.7 million, should he be fired. In addition to his golden parachute worth $56 million, Johnson would also walk away from the company with vested stock and deferred compensation benefits.

Jubilation has continued to greet the decision of the federal government to create  a N3bn grant for the entertainment industry sub-sector, despite expression of fear by some stakeholders over the accessibility of the grant.
Last Saturday,  President Goodluck Jonathan announced a N3 bn grant to support the nation’s motion picture  industry. He also launched a programme known as “Project Nollywood,”  which he said will help  to support the key components of the industry’s value chain through a dedicated grant.

How Nigerian Police Tortured, Killed My Son – Mother



Mrs Florence Fasere, mother of the 28-year-old, 400-level student of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Seyi Fasere, that was allegedly mistaken for an armed robber last week at Oye Ekiti, yesterday, narrated the circumstances that led to the untimely death of her son.
According to her, Seyi who was at home in Ilupeju Ekiti for few days, was returning to school in Ado-Ekiti to take one of his papers after collecting N100,000 school fee on the fateful day.
Mrs Fasere further disclosed that the deceased later proceeded to Oye Ekiti, a neighbouring town to take a cab back to his base when the vehicle ran into a robbery scene.

Inspite of the touch of civilization in the lives of many villagers, tradition and customs still remain intact.  While some remain passionate about it, some show a lot of disregard to it just as others especially the human rights activists consider some aspects of it as infringement on the rights of individuals.  But what is the gain of any tradition or custom which is inimical to the life of individual.
For families who lost their loved ones, life could be miserable. They are exposed to a world of pain, anguish, frustration and untold hardship everyday of their lives.

I Won’t Tolerate Killings Of Security Agents Again - President Jonathan



President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday warned that his administration would no longer tolerate a situation where security operatives are killed at will in any part of the country.
 He also vowed not to withdraw soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force deployed in troubled parts of the country until normalcy returns to the affected areas.
 
Jonathan spoke at a town hall meeting  in Maiduguri as he concluded his working visit to Borno State which has remained in the centre of activities of members of the fundamental Islamic sect, Boko Haram, that have been responsible for bombing campaigns in the northern part of the country.

Nigerian Police Nab Alleged Mushin Gang Leader



A suspected Mushin robbery gang leader, Shakiru Sanni, 31, a.k.a. Osama bin Laden,  has been arrested by the operatives at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, at Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos Island, southwest Nigeria.
According to the police, Sanni, who has been arraigned in court and remanded in prison custody,  has been on the run since 2009 after he allegedly led others now in prison custody to rob and kill four persons.
The suspect was arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court on a 6-count charge of felony to wit, armed robbery, murder, terrorising victims and unlawful possession of firearms.

Amnesty Update: Sultan Is Encouraging And Condoning Bloody Violence – Afenifere



The leader of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasonrati has described the Sultan of Sokoto – Alhaji  Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar’s call for amnesty for Boko Haram as “outrageous and highly unfortunate.”
It would be recalled that the Sultan made the call at a Jama’tu Nasril Islam (JNI) council meeting in Kaduna on Tuesday where he urged President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately grant amnesty to all members of the dreaded Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, so as to encourage  them to lay down their arms.

Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) yesterday rose from its annual central meeting in Kaduna condemning the persecution of Muslim women in some states for wearing hijab.
 
Information Nigeria reports that last week Thursday, scores of Muslim Students under the aegis of  Muslim Students Society (MSS) stormed the office of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola to protest the alleged banning of Muslim students from wearing Hijab in public schools, saying it is a victimisation of their religion.

GEJ Administration Can't Grant Amnesty For Boko Haram



President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said contrary to the call by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar III, his administration would not grant members of the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram amnesty.
 Jonathan who spoke at a town hall meeting held in Damaturu as part of activities earmarked for his state visit to Yobe State said members of the sect could not be granted amnesty for now because they remained faceless and have refused to communicate with the government.

Father Kills 3 Months Old Baby Through Oral s-è-x



A 28 year old father Steven Deuman Jr has been sentenced to 2 life terms in prison for causing the death of his 3 months old daughter while he was oral raping her. In August 2011, Deuman’s infant daughter, Evelynne Deuman, was found dead with a condom in her mouth. Deuman said he had stepped outside to smoke only to return and find their daughter on the floor bleeding from the nose, unconscious and not breathing with the discarded condom in her mouth.

A donkey blamed for the death Of American Politician



Perhaps the Americans should leave the donkeys for the Middle Easterners.

A donkey has been blamed for the death of Hollywood Park, Texas, Mayor William Bohlke, police officials said.

Atascosa County Chief Deputy David Soward said that the body of mayor Bohlke, was found in an Atascosa County ranch Monday 10 hours after a donkey apparently attacked him, the local news media reported.

Father Gets 5 years jail for slashing the throat of his infant



A man who wanted to punish his wife for cheating decided to slash the throat of their baby.   The man, whose name cannot be released to protect the identity of the child, stabbed his 11-month-old, after becoming enraged at the child's mother.  The 33-year-old father appeared in a Calgary, Alberta court for sentencing last week. He had pleaded guilty earlier to one count of aggravated assault.

In passing his sentence, Judge Mike Dinkel, said:  “In a very cold-blooded and calculating manner he put the child on the floor, took off his clothes and cut him twice. The defendant used the attack on the child to inflict pain to the mother. The child was a tool. It was based on anger, rage and jealousy by the mistaken belief that his wife was cheating. He knew what he was doing with the intent to cause harm.”

Wife of U.S soldier killed after refusing to besuper rough in bed



A woman was murdered after she refused at a party to participate in an affair where she was required to be super rough in bed, according to new court documents.

Detectives say the wife of a U.S. Marine was killed for refusing to participate in sadomasochistic sex in a northern San Diego, California home.
A judge last week released court documents, including affidavit warrants.

In them, detectives say, that 22-year-old Brittany Killgore, apparently did not know about the sex life of Staff Sgt. Luis Perez when she accepted his invitation to a dinner cruise.

EFCC Arraigns Scammer For ₦44.9m Nokia Phones 419



The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Thursday arraigned one Patrick Fernandez, 50, before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on a five count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and issuance of dud cheques worth N44,950, 000 (Forty- Four Million, Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) contrary to section 1(1) of the Dishonoured Cheques Act Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

One of the charges read, “Patrick Fernandez between 29th March and 1st April, 2012 at Ikeja within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud did obtain different types of Nokia phone sets worth N13, 800,000 (Thirteen Million Eight Hundred Thousand Naira) only from Okay Computers when you falsely represented to her that the money was to be paid within one week after delivery/collection of goods and which promise you failed to abide with”

JUSTICE: Mother of killed student seeks help from IGP




The family of Mr. and  Mrs. Joseph Fasere, a native of Ilupeju Ekiti, in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar to investigate the alleged extra-judicial killing of their son, Seyi Fasere by the police, last week.
Seyi, before he met his untimely death, was a 400-level student of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), but the police shot him dead after an armed robbery operation at a new generation bank in Oye Ekiti
while on his way to school from Ilupeju  Ekiti to Ado-Ekiti,  the state Capital.
But, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ekiti State Command, Mr.  Victor Obayemi denied that the police killed the young boy, saying the young man may had died during exchange of gun fire by his men and the armed robbers.
