Thugs Cause Disruption At Redeemed Church Construction Site



Members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who started construction a new 3-kilometre auditorium for the church at Agufoye village were chased away by a large group of over 40 armed thugs.   The trouble has started, it was gathered, when fraudsters obtained a survey plan and
invited land grabbers to claim a portion of the land which the Redeemed Christian Church of God had earlier bought for N215 million.


Two Ogun State Government receipts dated July 22nd and 29th, 2009, serve as the evidence for purchase.  The land was also allocated to the church for 99 years by the Ogun State Bureau of Lands and Survey, Abeokuta, in July 2009.

Nigeria controls largest construction market in Africa – Lafarge WAPCO boss




With an estimated market potential of cement consumption of running over 50 million metric tons per annum, the structure behind the growth in the sector could be traced to the cement market where Nigeria’s cement producers and investors alike are spearheading expansion and growth of the country cement sector.
Managing Director of Lafarge Cement  Wapco,  Mr. Joe Hudson, who disclosed this in Abuja,  stated that its financial accounts for three months ended 31 March 2013 show as follows :  Profit After Tax (PAT) grew  49 per cent  year on year ,y/y to N6.1 billion with modest sales of N23.3 billion; Its profit before tax (PBT) grew 21 per cent y/y due to a number of factors such as a gross margin expansion of 181bps to 42.8 per cent, flattish opex and a 35 per cent decline in net interest income.

A lower tax rate of 15.7 per cent compared with 31.8 per cent in first quarter 2012 resulted in profit after tax growing faster than profit before tax, the sales grew 29 per cent  quarter on quarter q/q, while profit before tax and profit after tax advanced by 46 per cent and 56 per cent q/q respectively.

Fashola approves construction of 70 new roads



Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, said 70 new roads had been approved and awarded for construction and rehabilitation in the state, even as the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, deplored the poor state of the Federal High Court in Lagos Island, saying "it is in its old self." 


Fashola who spoke during a courtesy call on him by the NBA, Lagos Branch and Ikeja, led by Mr. Monday Ubani and Mr. Taiwo Taiwo, said the contract had increased the number of awarded road contracts since the commencement of the second term of his administration to 230.

Building collapse: Lagos bans construction on weekends, public holidays



Following cases collapsed buildings in recent times in Lagos State, the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola said yesterday that it would no longer tolerate building construction on weekends and public holidays.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Olutoyin Ayinde, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities of his ministry in the last one year.
This, according to him, is to check unscrupulous developers and building contractors who secretly engage in construction of buildings at night, weekends and public holidays in a bid to dodge building and control agents.
The commissioner also said the government would impose appropriate sanctions on owners of about 407 abandoned buildings across the state.

In December 2009, a damning report detailing how Mr. Anenih, a former works minister and then leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), allegedly mismanaged billions of naira meant for the rehabilitation and construction of Nigerian roads, was listed for debate – for the third time in a row – by the Senate.

FMBN To Inaugurate The Construction Of 4000 Housing Estate In Bwari





Mr Gimba Yau-Kumo, the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), has restated the government’s commitment to curbing the challenges of housing deficit in the country.
The FMBN will on Tuesday in Usafa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, launch the construction of an estate known as ``Sen Bala Mohammed Housing Estate”.

FG sacks consultant, hands over contractor to ICPC



Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesome Wike, has ordered the sacking of the consultant supervising the construction of the Girl Child Secondary School in Ebonyi State.


He also ordered that the contractor handling the project be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for investigation

Chinese worker, five others killed, schools burnt in Maiduguri violence



A Chinese construction worker was killed on Friday in the besieged city of Maiduguri, Borno State in Nigeria’s northeast, an official said Friday, exacerbating security concerns for foreign workers in Nigeria’s violence-wracked North-East.
An overnight raid in a nearby city left 5 others dead and several schools razed to the ground, the Associated Press reports.
Gunmen shot the Chinese builder Friday morning on a main road that had been undergoing reconstruction in the city of Maiduguri, said the Borno State Ministry of Works spokesman Babakura Bukar.

Three Chinese construction workers killed in Maiduguri by gunmen

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram have reportedly shot and killed three Chinese construction workers in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Gubio Local Government Area, about 89 kilometers from Maiduguri, Premium Times reports.

The Chinese are said to be staff of a construction company, working on several projects in the state.
Reports indicate that the victims, who regularly visited local markets were shot as they patronised a local market.
