Ebola : Price of bitter kola skyrockets in Abia





Investigations by The PUNCH have revealed that the price of bitter kola across Abia markets has tripled following the recent speculation that the medicinal seed has the potency to cure the dreaded Ebola pandemic now ravaging some West African countries.

There have  been palpable fear and anxiety  across the state since last week following the report of a corpse in the neighbouring Anambra State suspected to have died of Ebola.

Despite assurances by the state government of its preparedness to contain the possible outbreak of the pandemic as some hospital wards had been designated to treat likely victims, residents still remain apprehensive.

Man Pays Price For ‘Love At First Sight’; Gets Six Months Jail Term



A technician paid the price of ‘falling in love at first sight’ and was rewarded with six months behind bars for molesting a woman when she served him water. The 28-year-old Indian technician (name withheld) was accused of groping a Filipina housemaid and touching her indecently when he claimed to have fallen in love with her the first minute he saw her.The man was among a group of technicians who went to the villa of the Filipina’s sponsor to fix the cooling system.

Online Retailers In Price War




A subtle price war has begun among online retailers jostling to attract the attention of Nigeria’s online shoppers, writes DAYO OKETOLAThere has been a strong positive sentiment towards online shopping in Nigeria; at least among the over 40 million Internet population, many of who live in the urban centres. The latest MasterCard Worldwide Online Shopping Survey, which corroborated this, reveals that 92 per cent of Nigerians surveyed had shopped online three months before the survey was conducted. Fifty-seven per cent of them, according to the survey, indicate that they will continue to make purchases online over the following six months.

Fuel Price Hike: Nigerian Labour Congress Threatens Strike, Mass Protest




The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike and mass protest in the event that the federal government increases the pump prices of petroleum products.

The threat followed the lingering fuel crisis in the country which the labour union described as a ploy by the federal government to increase pump prices of petroleum products.

It also threatened to picket fuel stations selling above official price if the necessary authorities that are expected to play a regulatory role fail to exercise their
