Russia to help Syria in case of external military strike - Putin

"Will we be helping Syria? We will," Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following a G20 summit in St. Petersburg on Friday. The US and other countries will put themselves outside of law if they begin a military operation in Syria, Putin added.

In the course of a meeting of the League of Arab Countries, the Foreign Ministers approved a resolution calling on the UN to take measures against the Syrian government. Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia and Algeria opposed military intervention. Western countries are behaving in the Islamic world like a "monkey with a grenade," a Russian deputy prime minister said on Tuesday, as the United States and its allies mull the use of force against Syria.
"The West behaves towards the Islamic world like a monkey with a grenade," Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who is known for his sharp tongue, wrote on Twitter.
