Akon to supply electricity to Kenya




Akon first met President Uhuru Kenyatta in Washington DC during the US-Africa Summit in August to discuss his intentions in assisting the country with electricity...
American/Senegalese singer Akon has promise to light up Kibera in Nairobi which is the largest urban slum in Africa. The R & B singer who first met President Uhuru Kenyatta in Washington DC during the US-Africa Summit in August to discuss his intentions in assisting the country with electricity, was at the State House Nairobi on Thursday, September 18, 2014, set up a meeting with the Energy CS Davis Chirchir, Kenya Power MD Ben Chumo, President’s Private Secretary Jomo Gecaga and Rural Electrification CEO and agreed on specifics for implementation that with be carried by ‘Akon Light Africa Project’. 

Akon who was welcomed to the State House by Kenya president will participate in the rural electrification process and will hold another meeting with Rural Electrification Authority to finalize on specifics. According to reports. See Some photos below…....

Deadly Twin Bomb Explosion hit Mombasa, Kenya



A deadly twin bomb explosion rocked Mombasa, Kenya yesterday May 3rd, killing at least 3 people, and injuring several others.

According to a Sky News report, one blast happened at a busy bus station in Mwembe Tayari, near the city centre, when grenades were thrown into a crowded minibus killing at least three people, and wounding seven others. The other explosion occurred at a well-known beach resort hotel, the Reef Hotel, in the Nyali area of the city, although no casualties are reported in that explosion. A bag was said to have been dropped by the entrance of the hotel which was later discovered to contain the explosive.

Girl hacked to death by former-boyfriend on her way to school

A 16-year old girl was hacked to death by her ex-boyfriend with a machete on her way to school in Kenya.
In accordance with reports, the victim, an form three student at Bishop Okoth Miranga Secondary School was ambushed by the suspect at about 6 a.m.
It was gathered from witnesses a quarrel had ensued between suspect and the deceased over a love affair turned sour.

Prof. Wole Soyinka Escaped Death In Nairobi Kenya Mall Assault



But for a stroke of luck, Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, would have been among the dead in the terror attack that took place at the Nairobi Westgate mall in Kenya last weekend.

Speaking at a press conference at the Freedom Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday in honour of the late Ghanaian poet, Professor Kofi Awoonor who died in the attack, Soyinka led a group of eminent Nigerian writers to condemn the Nairobi massacre. Soyinka, who said he, like Awoonor, was invited to the Storymoja/ Hay Literature Festival, said he couldn’t attend because of other pressing engagements he had elsewhere.

Kenya Mall Horror: Famous Ghanaian poet, Kenyan president's nephew died in attack



Ghanaian poet and diplomat Kofi Awoonor, (pictured left) was among the 59 killed during the attack on Westgate Mall in Kenya yesterday. He was in Nairobi as a participant in the Storymoja Hay Festival, a 4-day celebration of writing, thinking and storytelling. The Ghanaian govt confirmed his death early Sunday morning. He was 78 years old. His son was also shot, but was not killed.
Also the president's nephew, Mbugua and his fiance Wahito (both pictured right) were killed in the attack yesterday.

Nigeria: Omawumi Boosts Mortein's Malaria Campaign in Kenya



Mortein Brand spokesperson, Omawumi Megbele, has strengthened Reckitt Benckiser-backed Africa anti-malaria initiative with a call on governments, institutions and relevant stakeholders including mothers to join hands in the ongoing global effort to stamp out malaria in Africa.
Omawumi, who was on her second advocacy campaign for the eradication of malaria scourge in Africa to Nairobi, the Kenya capital, at the weekend expressed concern that although malaria remained one of the common causes of death in the continent, it was preventable if concerned stakeholders could join hands.
The initiative was facilitated by Reckitt Benckiser's Mortein insecticide brand.

Uhuru Kenyatta Now The 4th president of Kenya



Mr Uhuru Kenyatta was today declared the 4th president of Kenya by the country's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. Kenyatta will assume office later this month as the first Kenyan President to come into office under the country’s new constitution which was adopted after the crisis that followed its 2007 elections.

Kenya Set To Ban Bride Price Payment, Legalise Polygamy And Co-habitation




All things being equal, Kenyan government might soon make a law which will ban the payment of bride price, legalise polygamy and allow couples to co-habit for a certain period after which they will be considered legally married.
