No plan to send troops to Nigeria – Obama

The United States President Barack Obama has said that his country has no plan to send troops to fight terrorism in African countries including Nigeria.

Obama said, “Now, with respect to terrorism, I think there’s uniform concern of terrorist infiltration in many countries throughout Africa. A lot of the initiatives that we put forward were designed to partner so that countries, first and foremost, can deal with these problems within their own borders or region.

Putin, Obama discuss implementation of Poroshenko's peace plan by phone

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed proposals for peace in Ukraine with US President Barack Obama on Monday, the Kremlin said in a statement, after Ukraine's leader announced a ceasefire in military operations in the east, informing Reuters. US President urged Putin to support peace in Ukraine and said Moscow would face further "costs" if it did not take steps to reduce tensions in the country, the White House said.

"They discussed ... the implementation of the peace plan proposed by the President Petr Poroshenko," the Kremlin said. "Putin stressed that priority must be given to halting military operations and to the start of direct negotiations between the opposing sides."

Obama could be impeached in case of using US army in Iraq - author of War Powers Act

American President Barack Obama would commit an impeachable offense if he used military force in Iraq prior congressional approval but he could circumvent the law, Paul Findley, former US congressman and one of the original authors of The War Powers Resolution, told RIA Novosti.

"The word emergency is very elastic. If [Obama] declared new intelligence required him to renew combat operations he might argue it demanded emergency action," he said.

Obama to take several days to consider how to act on Iraq

President Barack Obama said on Friday he will take several days to review options for how the United States can help Iraq deal with a militant insurgency, saying any action would need significant involvement by Iraq itself, according to Reuters. "The United States is not simply going involve itself in a military action in the absence of a political plan by the Iraqis that gives us some assurance that they are prepared to work together," Obama said, demonstrating a reluctance to send US troops into battle in Iraq.

"We are not going to be able to do it for them," he added.

Obama in Poland: the real danger is from the West

On June 3-4 president Barack Obama is going to Poland before moving on to the G7 summit in Brussels. Obama’s visit  is theoretically devoted to the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Poland’s first post-communist parliamentary election,  in 1989.

Obama though is unlikely to talk much about the past, he is much more likely to want to discuss the future, especially about the "containment" of Russia (the State Department’s new policy line on Russia, first hailed by the former US ambassador to Moscow, Michael McFaul, in his recent opinion piece in The New York Times).
In Warsaw, Obama will meet the Polish and American pilots of the Poland-based F16 fighter jets, a new symbol of this "new" containment. (It should not be forgotten that the "old" containment policy was launched in late 1940s on the advice of the great American diplomat George F. Kennan, also a former ambassador to Moscow, who  from the 1990s opposed NATO’s expansion and other hostile US and allied action against the new, non-communist Russia.)

Russian President Vladimir Putin called American President Barack Obama on Friday to discuss a US diplomatic proposal for Ukraine, the White House said. It was believed to have been the first direct conversation between Obama and Putin since the United States and its European allies began imposing sanctions on Putin's inner circle and threatened to penalize key sectors of Russia's economy.

Putin called to discuss a US proposal for a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis, which Secretary of State John Kerry again presented to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the Hague meeting earlier this week.

Obama, US gov't must be removed to save mankind - presidential candidate LaRouche

Eight-time presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche Jr., who wrote an open letter to Congress calling for impeachment of President Barack Obama a few days ago, an interview with the Voice of Russia shared his opinion on US foreign politics, the current situation in Ukraine and the NSA surveillance program’s violation of the constitution.

"As the following attests, during his time in office President Obama has lied repeatedly to the American people and the Congress and has subverted the US Constitution on behalf of foreign interests—the British/Saudi axis—and its allies. In his recent adventure in Ukraine, he is about to lead the United States into World War III." So reads a letter by Lyndon LaRouche Jr., published in the Washington Times a few days ago.

Obama's 'boycott' of the Sochi Games: so much worse than in 1980…

The announcement made by the White House staff that US president Barack Obama would be "too busy" to attend the winter Olympic Games, which are to be held in the Russian seaside city of Sochi, was received in Russia as sad, but not entirely unexpected news.

Obama did not give other reasons for his non-show at the Olympic games, but the choice of members for the American Olympic delegation lets one make an easy guess about his motives.
