Ukrainian law enforcement units have assumed a large-scale offensive on Lugansk, the militia said.

"Fierce fighting is underway on the limits of Lugansk. The situation is not clear yet, but reports that the enemy deployed two compact armored groups of about 70 tanks in all, are being confirmed. Immediate unverified reports indicate that a special police task force was dropped on the city from helicopters," Vladislav Brig, spokesman for the Donbass militia, wrote on Facebook.

The offensive on Lugansk was launched from the southern and western directions, he said, Interfax reports.

 Nigerian army today claimed they have uncovered an underground arm storage facility during a take-over raid on Boko Haram camp inside Balmo forest in Borno state. The military also confirmed the arrest of a suspect. Other items recovered from the armory included charms, foodstuff, military uniforms. This was made known on Twitter today by Reuben Abati.

A minor tsunami has hit large swaths of northeastern Japan, including in a city near the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, after a strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the country’s Pacific coast

There were no immediate reports of damage following the quake and tsunami early on Saturday, however, with authorities lifting all advisories roughly two hours later.

Much of the coastline covered by the advisories is still recovering from the 2011 quake and tsunami disaster that killed more than 18,000 people and triggered a meltdown at Fukushima.

Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), at the Lagos state police command, Ikeja has arrested an Islamic cleric, Alfa Rilawan Saula accused of specializing in buying dead bodies especially that of new born for onward sale to his clients. After hearing of the proposal of some delegates at the ongoing confab that we should revert to the old national anthem, I sat by my piano and played both anthems. Playing and singing to the current anthem “Arise O’ Compatriot” was basically easy because I had done that countless times and I wasn’t even looking at the piano keys as I sang through the verses. 

I downloaded the lyrics of the old anthem just to be sure I was singing the right words. I know the tune by heart because my dad frequently sang it to me when I was a little school boy. And I felt nothing as usual singing it. But right from the first line of the old anthem “Nigeria We Hail Thee,” I felt a strange sense of pride and patriotism. I felt very strange because like every Nigerian, I am saddened that as a country, we have lost our way.
