15 Homes, Properties Worth Millions of Naira Damaged as High Tension Wire Fell in Lagos





A high tension wire that fell on top of several houses caused extensive fire catastrophe in Ejigbo area of Lagos State, western Nigeria, last night.

PM News reports that the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. when a heavy rainstorm started sweeping away everything in its path including high tension wire that have fallen off the loose wooden poles. According to the residents of Ejigbo area, one of the locals,  Baba Sadiq, who tried to save his family was electrocuted to death, at least 15 houses was razed down and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Over 50 Feared Dead As Passenger Plane Crashes in Taiwan




Over 50 were killed after a plane crash landed in Taiwan, according to Taiwanese media reports. Seven people were reportedly injured in the crash.  According to Taiwan’s Civil aeronautics Administration Shen Chi, 51 people are dead and seven people injured. While the local fire chief put death toll at 45.

The Mujahid Dokubo-Asari-led Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front, NDPSF has warned Northerners living in the South to leave the region.

This is coming on the heels of a 2-week ultimatum given by a group of Northern youthsunder the aegis of Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF), to Southerners currently living in the North, to relocate to their respective states.
According to National Mirror report, the Asari-led group who said the southerners are not slaves to the north, called for a ‘Republic of Niger Delta’.

3-Man Car-Snatching thieves Nabbed



The Lagos State Anti-Robbery Patrol Team has arrested three young men infamous for snatching exotic cars around Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah axis of Lagos State.

The three man gang,  Rasheed Yusuf, 20, Ade Yemi, 22, and Toyin Ajayola, 22, according to Vanguard, operate using charms, guns and other ammunition which were in their possession at the point they were arrested. Although the policemen attached to the Bar Beach Police Station around the area arrested the trio, two of the gang (Ade and Toyin) escaped but were later re-arrested at a face-off with the policemen around Cowrie Bridge outward Victoria Island on Monday night after they newly snatched a taxi at Orile Iganmu area of Lagos state.

EFCC set to declare Nyako wanted



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has concluded arrangements to declare the impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, wanted.  The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, made this known to   one of our correspondents in a telephone interview in Abuja on Tuesday.
Uwujaren explained that the commission was set to do so   because Nyako had been elusive since his removal by the members of the state House of Assembly last week. 
He said, “Since Nyako was removed, he has been elusive. So the commission has devised a strategy to declare him wanted. The commission is planning to declare him wanted.”

US Senators Call for New Sanctions on Russia



US senators called on their President Barack Obama to impose new sanctions against Russia, specifically the energy, finance and defense sectors of Russia’s economy, a letter from the senators addressed to the US president said.
“We urge you to implement your power in order to impose broader sanctions against Russia’s defense sector immediately, including state company Rosoboronexport. Russians must stop providing weapons, equipment and training to separatists in eastern Ukraine. We also urge you to consider further sanctions targeting energy, finance and other sectors of Russian economy,” the letter said.

“We handed it [data] on Tuesday, as soon as we got it in writing in Russian and English. We forwarded it to all the people concerned,” Chizhov told journalists in Brussels.

US missionary admits to raping young kids at Kenyan orphanage



According to a report on KTLA a US teenager faces a possible life in prison sentence after authorities say they learned about shocking crimes he allegedly committed on an African mission trip.

The suspect was volunteering at a Kenyan children’s home when he allegedly raped and molested a number of young children between the ages of four and nine.

According to court records, 19-year-old Matthew Durham (pictured above) confessed to raping several young girls, forcing some boys to perform oral sex on him and even making other kids watch. Continue...

Nigerian Air Force Jet crashes in Borno State



 A Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 helicopter that has been on an exercise mission crashed yesterday afternoon in South Bama, Borno. In accordance with a statement signed by Nigeria Defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, the jet crashed because of technical fault and not consequently of any enemy action. The statement didn't say whether anyone was killed or injured in the crash.

Mr. Olukolade said investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances that resulted in the crash.

University of Nigeria Nsukka: Lecturer Commits Suicide



A lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Dr Bede Opata has reportedly committed suicide over a yet-to-be ascertained reason, Thisday reports. Sources within the university say the 38 year old law lecturer killed himself in his apartment within the city on Saturday July 19th but his body was just discovered on Sunday July 20th.  The lecturer who holds a doctorate degree in Law, hailed from Nsukka, Enugu state and was the son of a former Commissioner in the old Anambra state, Chief Cletus Opata.

 Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola yesterday July 21st inaugurated a panel of inquiry to access the ROOT of the Friday July 4th face off between men of the Armed Forces and a BRT driver where a Soldier lost his life, and the following arson and destruction of BRT buses by the soldiers.

Governor Fashola tasked the tribunal to inquire into if the act was committed by soldiers and also unravel how and why the military officers died and what killed him, in addition to investigate what may have been done to steer clear of the accident.  

The panel which will be chaired by way of a retired Judge of the Lagos High Court, Mr Justice Ebenezer Adebajo is likely to submit its findings within 60 days. See more photos after the jump.

A former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), on Tuesday accused President Goodluck Jonathan of waging a war against Nigeria by using the   “common wealth to subvert the system.”
Buhari made the accusation in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Kaduna.
The statement titled,   “Pull back Nigeria from the brink,” is his first formal reaction to the   removal of Murtala Nyako as Adamawa State governor and the threat of impeachment against Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State.

Men in Uniform Kidnap Woman in Lagos



A four-man gang said to be kidnappers stormed Oshodi under bridge on Saturday, snatching a young woman at gunpoint. One of them was reported to have worn the uniform usually used by officials of the anti-robbery squad.

Punch reports that the victim was walking along with her mother when she was confronted by the men. It was said that the mother was threatened with a gun when she wanted to defend her daughter.
The gang, who were said to have arrived at the Oshodi area around 2.30pm, whisked the woman away in a Honda Pilot jeep.

A Nigeria Air Force Helicopter crashed this afternoon in Bama, Borno State.  Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade revealed the news via a press statement: A Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 Helicopter on a training mission this afternoon, crashed due to technical fault at a location South of Bama.  Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.  Meanwhile, it is established that the crash is not as a result of any enemy action. Further details on the crash will be made known as soon as the investigation progresses

5 Jail returnees nabbed again for robbery



The Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Lagos state police command have re-arrested five ex-inmates of Ikoyi Prisons while they were about to execute a robbery operation which they had planned while still in prison.

The men, Sikiru Adeyemi, Saheed Hakeem, Dosun Patrick, Razaq Olarenwaju, Jamiu Adeyemi, were arrested after a close monitoring by the police after they left prison.

The ring leader of gang, Sikiru Adeyemi,who claims to be a graduate of mass communication from the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun state, had earlier been remanded at the Ikoyi prison for armed robbery but was later released on bail and placed on close watch on the instruction of the state police commissioner, Umaru Tanko. A man left with a disfigured mouth after wolf attack when he was a child is to receive corrective surgery 56 years later.  


Wu Xiuyou, 65, from Datang village in south-west China's mountainous Guizhou Province, was attacked by a wolf when he was 11.
The animal effectively ripped off his mouth and he was left disfigured and only able to eat liquid food.

It'd to make a quick safe landing to prevent any disaster. Reports say the plane which took off from the Entebbe airport in Uganda was maneuvering to neighboring South Sudan when the aircraft was forced to reverse as a result of bad weather and then land on a highway after running out of fuel approximately 40 miles from the airport. Parading the men before newsmen, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Andy Dateer, said the men were apprehended at Enyimba petrol station near Ariara International market, Aba as they tried to put the young girl's corpse in a sack for burial. Men of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC have rescued over 20 young pregnant women in a baby factory it discovered at Umunkpeyi in Isiala Ngwa South LGA, following a tip off.

Parading the rescued women and some of the workers in the baby factory, the state commandant of NSCDC, Andy Dateer, said the baby factory is named Nma Charity and Motherless Babies’ Home,  and that the owner who is now at-large, brings in men to impregnate the girls. He said after delivery, the babies are sold, and the mothers paid peanuts.
