Boko Haram: Spouses of Nigerian Troops Block Husbands’ Deployment to Gwosa.
Scores of soldiers have been killed by Boko Haram in Borno State in the last few months, and many blame the inferior weapons Nigerian troops are equipped with to fight brutal insurgents. Reports say nearly 60 soldiers were killed last Wednesday in Gwosa, taken over by Boko Haram after hundreds of heavily-armed militants swooped on the border town.
After locking the gates Saturday, the women and children placed themselves as wedges before the trucks that were to drive out of Giwa Barracks of the 21 armoured brigade Maiduguri, witnesses said.
“We don’t want to be turned another set of widows, give our husbands modern and better arms, weapons and vehicles or they go nowhere!” one woman was quoted by a source as saying.Continue..

I do not want to believe that I would be the only one who is looking at the just concluded governorship election in Osun State differently. I am certain that dispassionate observers of the trend and dimensions of the election would be agitated by the same question, ‘Who won at Osun?’ In 2011, during the general elections, Rauf Aregbesola was barely a year on the saddle as the governor of Osun State. The Osun electorate had yet to test the man by having a taste of his style and method of leadership.

Jonathan, Osun PDP disagree on election result.
President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday differed with the Osun State chapter of the party on the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election won by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress of Nigeria.
While Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP conceded defeat to Aregbesola , the PDP in Osun rejected the election result.
The APC candidate who is the incumbent governor of the state polled 394,684 to defeat his PDP counterpart, Iyiola Omisore, who scored 292,750 in the final results announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Bamitale Omole, on Sunday morning.

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied directing Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State to dethrone the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade.
Tinubu said the rumour over the alleged involvement of the monarch in the build-up to the just concluded Osun State governorship election won by Aregbesola was the handiwork of “political desperadoes.”

NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart Hits, Kills Race Car Driver (Graphic Video)
A 20-year-old American race car driver has died after being struck by the car of three-time Nascar champion Tony Stewart during a local sprint race in New York. According to eyewitnesses, Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr, 20, had collided on a previous lap of the dirt track race on Saturday. Ward then climbed out of his car to show his displeasure and was on track confronting Stewart when he was suddenly struck and thrown into the air by Stewart's car.

Kurdish Forces Take Back Two Towns Occupied by Militants in Iraq – Reports
"The Peshmerga (Kurdish fighters) have liberated Makhmur and Gwer," Peshmerga spokesman Halgord Hekmat told AFP.Hekmat said "US aerial support helped” to liberate the towns. Representatives of the regional authorities also confirmed that the Kurdish troops had recaptured the towns following fierce battles.
Late on Thursday, US President Barack Obama gave the green light to US airstrikes targeting positions of Islamic State (IS) militants fighting in Iraq against Kurdish forces defending the city of Erbil. The President also authorized humanitarian aid to Yezidi Kurds who, as Obama stated, face “genocide.” Several airstrikes have been conducted over the past few days.

Yesterday, following a de-blockading strike from without, the remnants of the surrounded brigades, having gathered an armoured group and abandoned everything that could not move, rushed to break through in the direction of Miusinsk. This led to battles, in the course which the city continually passed from one faction to the other. In order to prevent the unification of two enemy groups – one attempting to break out and the other – a relief group advancing through Orlovka to the north of Enakievo – the Militia attempted to push the breakout troops to the north-east of Miusinsk.

Israel also Agrees to Another Ceasefire in Gaza – Government Source
Israel has agreed to another ceasefire in the Gaza strip and is planning to send its delegation to Egypt on Monday to continue negotiations on a final settlement of the conflict with Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas, a source in the Israeli government told RIA Novosti on Sunday.
“Israel has accepted an Egyptian initiative. If true ceasefire enters into force, the Israeli delegation will arrive in Egypt tomorrow,” the source said.

Estonia's President Criticizes Switzerland for Lack of Sanctions Against Russia
"Switzerland must live with the criticism that it has only dispensed with its own sanctions to gain an advantage for its banking sector," Ilves told the paper.
The president did not specify whether Estonia, as part of the European Union would put pressure on Switzerland. He noted, however, that other countries that claimed to be neutral, such as Sweden and Ireland, ended up supporting the sanctions.
