Taliban Kills Australian Citizen: Reports





An Australian citizen has been captured and killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan, his family told Guardian Australia in an interview.



"I want the government to find out how the Taliban knew how my dad was going back to Kabul. It is obvious they got a report about him, because they went onto the minibus and said "Sayed Habib, get up,'" Kubra Mosawi, daughter of Sayed Habib who was killed, said Sunday. "He wasn't anything to do with the government there. They just wanted to stop him coming back to Australia. I don't want anyone else to experience this. Every minute we think of my brother's family who are still there, I can't study or work because of the stress of it."

China Offers Benin Ebola Prevention Materials: Reports




The government of China has offered Ebola disease prevention materials worth $840,000 to Benin, an unnamed source in Cotonou told Xinhua on Wednesday.  The corresponding agreement was signed by Benin's Foreign Minister Arifari Bako Nassirou and China's ambassador to the country Tao Weiguang on Monday.  Weiguang also announced that the Chinese Embassy would give $20,000 to the Benin Red Cross to speed up preparations for the Ebola disease.

Some of Nigeria’s Kidnapped Schoolgirls Freed: Reports





Some of the nearly 200 schoolgirls that were kidnapped in Nigeria this April by Boko Haram have been freed, BBC News Africa reported Tuesday.
BBC News Africa quoted Nigerian Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Chris Olukolade as saying that the exercise was "ongoing".
The spokesperson did not specify the number of the girls freed, who are reported to be currently held in a barracks.

3 Afghan Officers Go Missing in US Shopping Mall: Reports





Three military officers from Afghanistan have gone missing in the United States, ABC TV network has reported. The officers came to the United States on September 11 to take part in joint military exercise at Cape Code military base in Massachusetts and were last seen at the Cape Cod Shopping Mall late on Saturday. The TV channel cited a US Central Command official as saying that the men do not present any danger to the society.

Italy to Supply Body Armor to Ukraine: Reports




Italy is ready to supply Ukraine with military equipment, including body armor, La Repubblica newspaper reported Sunday, citing sources from the Italian Defense Ministry.

Italy is preparing a military aid package which will include non-lethal equipment supplies to Ukraine, such as body armor and helmets, the Italian newspaper writes.

Kurdish Forces Take Back Two Towns Occupied by Militants in Iraq – Reports



 Kurdish forces have regained control of two towns in northern Iraq seized by Islamic State militants, Agence France-Presse reported on Sunday.
"The Peshmerga (Kurdish fighters) have liberated Makhmur and Gwer," Peshmerga spokesman Halgord Hekmat told AFP.
Hekmat said "US aerial support helped” to liberate the towns. Representatives of the regional authorities also confirmed that the Kurdish troops had recaptured the towns following fierce battles.
Late on Thursday, US President Barack Obama gave the green light to US airstrikes targeting positions of Islamic State (IS) militants fighting in Iraq against Kurdish forces defending the city of Erbil. The President also authorized humanitarian aid to Yezidi Kurds who, as Obama stated, face “genocide.” Several airstrikes have been conducted over the past few days.

Southwest China Earthquake Kills 367, 1,900 Injured - Reports



More than 367 people are dead and almost 2000 have been injured in a strong earthquake which hit China’s mountainous southwest, bringing homes crashing to the ground and sparking a massive relief operation.
The quake, which struck in the Zhaotong prefecture of provincial Yunnan on Sunday, toppled buildings and left rescue teams and residents to pull survivors from beneath rubble, images on social media show.
“At least 367 people have been killed and 1881 people were injured,” the official news agency Xinhua reported early on Monday, citing rescuers and raising a previous toll given minutes earlier of 357.

Reports of mass shooting in California - at least 3 dead



At least three people are dead after a shooting spree stretching from Ladera Ranch into Tustin and Orange.
It all started around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday when Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a home on Red Leaf Lane in Ladera Ranch.

One female was pronounced dead at the location, according to sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.
The suspect, a male in his 20s, fled in an SUV into the Tustin area, where there were multiple shootings, Amormino said.

He added that there is not any immediate threat to the community, but could not provide additional details on the suspect’s status. There appeared to be at least five other crime scenes across Tustin and ending in Orange, right near Villa Park.

We Have Spent N70 Billion In 6 Months – SURE-P Boss Reports To President Joathan



Dr Christopher Kolade, the chairman of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), has revealed that about N70 billion was expended by the programme on projects in the last six months of 2012. Dr. Kolade made this known when speaking to State House correspondents after presenting the SURE-P 2012 annual report to President Goodluck Jonathan. He noted that the committee could not do more because its funds were not released on time.

French Police Detain Nigerian Private Jet Carrying President Jonathan's Front Man





SaharaReporters has learnt that French law enforcement officers detained a private jet conveying a Nigerian businessman, Jide Omokore, in Paris. Mr. Omokore is one of President Goodluck Jonathan’s closest business associates.The Abuja-bound plane had arrived in Paris from Monaco. A French police source who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity disclosed that the plane was detained for two days.
