China Offers Benin Ebola Prevention Materials: Reports




The government of China has offered Ebola disease prevention materials worth $840,000 to Benin, an unnamed source in Cotonou told Xinhua on Wednesday.  The corresponding agreement was signed by Benin's Foreign Minister Arifari Bako Nassirou and China's ambassador to the country Tao Weiguang on Monday.  Weiguang also announced that the Chinese Embassy would give $20,000 to the Benin Red Cross to speed up preparations for the Ebola disease.

PDP, Fayose get order to inspect electoral materials



The Ekiti Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday granted an order allowing the Peoples Democratic Party and the Governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose, to inspect all materials used in the June 21 governorship election in the state.
The three-man panel, chaired by Justice Muhammad Sirajo, granted the order following an exparte application by their counsel, Dolapo Kolade, which was brought pursuant to Section 151 of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended

The panel had on July 23 granted similar relief to the All Progressives Congress which is before the tribunal challenging the victory of Fayose in the governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Fayose winner of the election ahead of the incumbent governor and candidate of the APC, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
The PDP also sought an order allowing other interested party to enjoy same privilege, and an order compelling security agencies to be present at the point of inspection.

Sellers of Pornographic Materials Arrested By Lagos state taskforce



The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has begun clampdown on distributors and sellers of pornographic materials across Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.  Four distributors of pornographic materials were arrested at Cele Bus Stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway on Tuesday by the taskforce after the police raided the area. Those arrested will be arraigned before the Special Offences Court at the taskforce yard and prosecuted for selling obscene materials.  The sellers of the materials arrested are Yinka Dada, 25 years; Udoh Nne, 29 years; Sylvester Obodoe, 18 years and Poopola Bamidele, 18 years. Joseph Benjamin, Dare Art Alade, Present Relief Materials To Flood Victims InKogi




Stirred by the recent Kogi flood disaster, Joseph Benjamin pioneered a team to deliver relief materials to the state. The “Help Kogi” project was initiated to provide material support to the victims of the flood in Kogi. Last week, the team - made up of Joseph, Darey, Jaywon, Malik, Cordelia Okpei, and MoEazy - was at Kogi State to present the relief materials. They were welcomed by Governor Idris Wada and his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi.

Edo begins distribution of relief materials to flood victims



Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says the state government has started the distribution of relief materials to victims of the flood disaster in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria, in Benin on Tuesday.

The statement said Oshiomhole made this known after inspecting the affected areas, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

According to the statement, more than 30 communities of three local government areas – Etsako Central, Etsako East and Esan South East – are affected.

It added that Oshiomhole said the immediate release of funds would take care of the urgent needs of the victims.

It also stated that the distribution relief materials were being coordinated by the Chairman of the Relief Committee, Hajia Maimuna Momodu, in conjunction with the State Emergency Relief Agency.

The statement said the government would take adequate measure to ensure effective monitoring for even distribution of the materials to the victims.

It stated the governor appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of the victims.

The statement also listed the relief materials distributed to include mattresses, blankets, clothing, various food items, toiletries, beverages and drugs.
