Mother of suspected bomber who disguised as a woman says he's not a terrorist




On Friday July 25th, the Nigerian military released a statement saying they'd arrested a person dressed as a female who's suspected to be linked to the Wednesday 23rd bomb blast directed at former Head of state, General Buhari. ( if you missed it,read here)

Well, the suspect's mother Zubeida Yusuf, who lives in Mando, Kaduna has spoken and she says her son, Mansir Yusuf, isn't any terrorist. She said the military mistook her son for an enemy when he was found wearing female clothes;
“My son is not a terrorist. What is wrong with him is an evil spiritual attack which is making him to prefer women’s clothing and to act as one who is mentally retarded. Everyone in Mando knows that he only has a spiritual condition that is making him to act strangely.

Liberia shut down schools over of Ebola Virus



The Liberian government announced today that most schools in the nation will soon be shutdown to be able to prevent further spread of the deadly Ebola virus.  The military has been called directly into properly enforce the measures. NYSC redeploys corps members from Borno, Kano, Yobe, others



The National Youth Service Corps on Thursday announced the redeployment of corps members from seven northern states.

The affected states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano and Yobe states.

A statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations in NYSC, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, said the decision followed the high rate of insecurity in some parts of the North.

The corps members are part of the  2014 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course  scheduled to commence next week Tuesday August 5, 2014.

The NYSC said due to logistic reasons, the orientation course will be conducted in two streams for different states.

 Mad Man Stabbed Nigerian Policemen In Alakija Lagos

A suspected kidnapper who disguised as a mad man has been arrested at Alakija bus stop in Lagos after he allegedly attacked two policemen on duty with a bottle.  The drama took place in the premises of a Redeemed Christian Church of God in Alakija part of Lagos state Nigeria yesterday. The policemen on duty were attacked because they tried to chase an outrageous woman from the premises of the church.

FG rolls-out 10,000 low cost houses





The Federal Government on Thursday officially began the roll-out of the first phase of its 10,000 housing units under the affordable home ownership scheme.

The project, to be spearheaded by the newly established Nigerian Mortgage Refinancing Company will enable Nigerians to own their houses at affordable rate.

The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala while speaking at the event in Abuja said with the flag-off, low income earners would begin to have the opportunity to own their houses under a flexible payment package.

Police explains rise in female suicide bombings in Nigeria



The Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Frank Mba has given an insight into the recent rise of female suicide bombers in Nigeria. Addressing newsmen at the National Information Center yesterday, Mr Mba said Boko Haram men now use women because they raise fewer suspicions.
"If you have been following the trends of terrorism worldwide, you will understand that use of female suicide bombers is actually not totally new. It is actually a new trend in our own part of the world. The reasons why established international terrorist organizations go for female suicide bombers is clear.

Intending Hajj pilgrims to undergo medical screening




The FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board on Thursday said it would conduct medical screening on intending Pilgrims in the territory for this year’s Hajj.


This is contained in a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Muhammad Lawal, in Abuja.

According to the statement, intending pilgrims will be screened at the permanent Hajj camp, Bassan Jiwa, near the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

American Missionary With Ebola Fighting To Stay Alive




An American missionary who has contracted the Ebola virus in Africa is fighting for her life, her son says.

Missionary Nancy Writebol, 60, remains in quarantine after contracting Ebola in Liberia, where she and her husband David have been working with aid group Serving in Mission. She is one of two Americans battling the deadly virus.
“She’s stable,” Mrs Writebol’s son Jeremy told the US Today show.
“As dad put it, she’s fighting through it, and continuing to express a few symptoms, but she’s able to move around on her own, and they’re getting lots of fluids into her. She’s working real hard to get through this.”

Britain pledges support for Nigeria’s maritime security



The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Andrew Pocock, on Wednesday said his government was ready to support Nigeria in providing security in the Gulf of Guinea.

Pocock made this known in Lagos at a news conference on board ‘HMS IRON DUKE’, a visiting British War Ship.

He said, “Britain is a friend to Nigeria and is ready to support Nigeria in ensuring that activities of piracy and other illegal activities in the Gulf of Guinea are tackled.

FG signs agreement with EU on ₦100bn loan



The Federal Government on Wednesday said it had secured a fresh funding of about N100bn for developmental projects for the next five years under the European Development Fund.

The immediate past Supervising Minister for National Planning but now Minister of State, Finance, Amb Bashir Yuguda, disclosed this in Abuja during his handing over to the newly appointed Minister for National Planning, Dr Abubakar Sulaiman.

Edo Assembly declares defected lawmaker’s seat vacant




As the division in the Edo State House of Assembly continues, the House has declared the seat of one of its members, vacant.


The Speaker, Uyi Igbe, who made the declaration during the House plenary at old assembly complex in Benin, explained that the affected lawmaker, Abdulrazak Momoh, representing Etsako West 1 constituency, defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party without following due process.
Igbe stated that session 109 (1) (g) of the 1999 constitution, as amended, authorised the Speaker to declare the seat of a lawmaker upon defection from the party he was elected to another party and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to take necessary steps to fill the vacant position within 90 days.

Ebola contaminated doctor shows slight development




The Samaritan’s Purse physician and a missionary working with a partner organization remain in serious condition Dr. Kent Brantly, a doctor working for Samaritan’s Purse, and Nancy Writebol, a missionary with SIM, have shown a slight improvement in the past 24 hour. However, both remain in serious condition in Liberia where they are being treated for Ebola.

FG targets $500m for victims of terrorism





President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday said he hoped to raise about $500m over a 12-month period for the Victims Support Fund.

The fund to be administered by a committee led by Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), is meant to provide relief and succour for all those who have been adversely affected by terrorism and insurgency in the country.

The first fundraising dinner aimed at raising the money is billed for the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday (today).

NUPENG backs Jonathan’s $1bn loan request





The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers on Wednesday said it was in support of the Federal Government’s proposed $1bn loan to fight terrorism in the country.

The union’s Secretary, Mr Isaac Aberare told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos State, that NUPENG would fully support any move that could help to stamp out the ongoing insurgency.

He added that no amount was too much to spend to restore law and order and urged the National Assembly not to hesitate to approve the loan.

Presidency shared ₦22.4m to Chibok parents, escaped girls -Community





The Kibaku Area Development Association (Chibok community), has explained that the Presidency shared 22.4m to the Chibok parents and the escaped girls that held a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on July 22,2014, contrary to reports that N100m was doled out to the recipients.

The Chibok community leadership refuted allegations that it was given N100m to share to the parents and women, adding that it did not handle or receive any money from the Presidency.

He similarly deplores the attacks on two mosques in Potiskum, Yobe State yesterday.

President Jonathan condemns the repeated targeting of worshippers, and   innocent students who are the nation’s future by depraved terrorists.

House Republicans to vote to sue Obama





The US House of Representatives is set to pass legislation authorising it to sue President Barack Obama for what Republican leaders describe as his overreach of authority.


The resolution is expected to pass the Republican-controlled chamber in a party line vote on Wednesday.

Its sponsors say Obama exceeded his powers when he delayed an insurance deadline in his healthcare law.

Heavy Fighting Prevents International Experts from Accessing MH17 Crash Site



 A group of independent experts from Australia and the Netherlands was again unable to reach the crash site of Malaysian Flight MH17 due to heavy fighting between militia and the Ukrainian Army, according to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).


“The joint team of Australian and Dutch investigators, accompanied by independent monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have again suspended any attempt today to visit the MH17 wreckage whilst negotiations continue to secure safe access to the site,” the police agency said Wednesday in a media release.
