Senate President David Mark Pleaded with Beijing To Release 490 Nigerian Prisoners



Senate President David Mark has pleaded with Beijing to release 490 Nigerians languishing in Chinese prisons. He begged the Chinese leader, Mr. Zhang Dejiang to review the cases of  366 Nigerians in Chinese prisons, 120 awaiting trial and four already sentenced to death under the transfer of prisoners arrangement.

Accidentally’ Stabbed 76 Times: Another Step In Murdered Banker’s Case




Final written addresses in the trial of Akolade Arowolo, the alleged wife-murderer, will be submitted on October 2, 2013. Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Ikeja High Court has on  on Tuesday, September 17, directed the prosecution and defence to file and serve the processes before the next adjournment date.

Arowolo, 31, was apprehended on December 21, 2011, and charged to court for allegedly stabbing his spouse Titilayo, a banker, to death. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and has been remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.

Female Teacher Reveals Why She Had $-éx With 12-year-old Boy



A teacher has been accused of having s-éx with 12-year-old boy.
She claims she sent him pornographíc texts messages as "s-éxual therapy" to motivate him to be a better student.
"That was my purpose, to gain his attention. And yes, I did it in an inappropriate way," Ethel Anderson, who was 29 at the time the abuse began, said in court.

Health Technology Student impregnates, kills 17-year-old girl in Zamfara



26-year-old student of health technology has been arrested by the police in Zamfara State for allegedly abducting, impregnating and killing a 17-year-old girl, Bela’u.

The suspect, Bello was arrested following the death of the girl after he took her to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gusau, in an effort to stop excess bleeding by the victim, resulting from alleged attempt to abort a five-month-old pregnancy.

18 Soldiers Sentenced To Death, Prisons Over Boko Haram Complicity



For their alleged links to Boko Haram, some soldiers are to face death penalty while others will go to jail. Those affected are one lieutenant, one warrant officer and 16 others. The General Court Martial   has been trying them since July 1, this year. 

They were accused of offences ranging from communicating with Boko Haram members, cowardly behaviour, murder, to manslaughter. They were being tried by the Three Armoured Division as the case fell within its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Warders Beat Prisoner To Death, Sparking Inmate Revolt In Adamawa Prison




Inmates in a prison in Numan, Adamawa State on Monday staged demonstrations against prison officials over the death of an inmate who was brutally beaten by warders.


Armed soldiers were drafted to the prison for fear that the protest by inmates could spill over into uncontrollable violence, SaharaReporters learned from a prison source as well as a security official. One of the sources disclosed that numerous inmates suffered injuries in the cause of their revolt. He added that prison officials were yet to determine if any inmates escaped in the course of the commotion.

Nasarawa: Soldiers kill Ombatse leader, arrest others



Troops deployed to contain the violent communal clashes in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have killed the leader of the Ombatse militia group who allegedly led the attack that claimed over 30 lives in some communities in the area, a police source told The PUNCH on Monday.
The body of the militant leader whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, and three other assailants were said to have been deposited at an undisclosed hospital in Lafia, the state capital.

40 Soldiers attacked by Boko Haram in the north of Borno State.




No fewer than 40 soldiers of the Nigerian Army were feared killed in a Boko Haram ambush  in the north of Borno State.
A highly placed military source told our correspondent on  Tuesday that about  65  others were missing as a result of the attack by the Islamic militants.
Investigations revealed that  the insurgents attacked the soldiers   in Kasiya Forests, north of Borno State.

"Nigerians encourage corruption" ,says President Goodluck .E Jonathan ( Do you agree ?)



President Goodluck Jonathan  has lamented  that in spite of institutional reforms aimed at fighting corrupt practices, Nigerians, through their actions encourage graft.
He also said both the  public and private sectors were involved in corruption but stated that he would not give out their names “so that  I won’t be attacked.”
The President  spoke while declaring open the 54th annual conference of the Nigerian Economic Society in Abuja on Tuesday.

Amaechi’s NGF calls for Okonjo-Iweala’s resignation



Members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum have called on the Minister of Finance, who is also the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to resign her appointment if she knew she would not be able to adhere strictly with the Appropriation Act 2013.
They said the non-compliance with the revenue projections of the Federal Government 2013 Budget was also a direct breach of the provisions of the Appropriation Act, 2013.
These decisions were part of the resolutions of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led NGF, which met in Abuja on Tuesday evening.

Australia gets a new Prime minster, "Tony Abbott".



Tony Abbott was sworn in as Australia's new prime minister on Wednesday, officially ending six years of Labor rule, with the conservative vowing to get straight down to business. The 55-year-old leader of the Liberal/National coalition government was sworn in at Government House in Canberra by Governor-General Quentin Bryce. Tony Abbott promised to end immediately the previous government's carbon tax and other climate change measures. Abbott's conservative coalition won the general election on September 7 with a solid majority in the lower house, but he will have to deal with a range of minor parties which will hold the balance in the Senate to get legislation through parliament. Abbott has been criticised inside his own party for only choosing one woman in his cabinet - Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. Retiring conservative Senator Susan Boyce said it was "embarrassing internationally." Labor acting leader Chris Bowen said Afghanistan now had more women in government than Australia.

All McDonald's in Poland shut down over bomb scare



All of over 300 McDonald’s restaurants across Poland were evacuated on Tuesday night after a bomb threat, Gazeta.pl news portal reported. The portal reported citing Krzysztof Klapa, a spokesman for McDonald’s company in Poland, that an anonymous telephone call warned about a bomb in one of the McDonald’s restaurants, but did not specify which one. “Since we never ignore such calls, we immediately warned the police and it took measures across whole Poland,” he was cited as saying. Reuters reported citing Mariusz Sokolowski, a spokesman for the Polish police, that it was a false alarm and law enforcers were currently focused on finding the perpetrator.

Senate President backs national conference (What do you think ?)



President of the Senate, David Mark, on Tuesday said the call for national conference by certain sections of the country was in order in view of the discontent in the polity.

Mark, while welcoming senators from their seven-week annual vacation, said every matter about the union of ethnic groups that made up the country should be opened to discussion though with the proviso that the dismemberment of the country should be a no-go area.
He said that the country could not continue to shy away from discussing national issues in view of the discontent in the polity and present global realities.

"How my Dad Died" - Late Agagu's first son reveals



The first son of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Agagu, Feyi, has made made public what might have caused his father's death.
In an interview with one of Nigeria's dailies, he said, “He just had a medical examination, which showed that he had a little cholesterol, and was hypertensive.

Spain-Based Nigerian Arrested With 364 wraps of Coke (₦72m) in Lagos.

A Nigerian living in Madrid, Spain has been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos with 6.49 kilogrammes of cocaine,  Nigeria’s anti-drug trafficking agency said on Monday. The high-grade Brazilian cocaine has been nipped in the bud by anti-narcotic officials,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesperson for the Nigerian  Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
