Ipaja Power Transmission Station Gutted By Fire

A power transmission station based in Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, was gutted yesterday morning by fire which raged on for hours heightening fears of likely power outage in Ikeja and its environs.
Eyewitnesses said the cause of the fire which began around 11: am was unknown. The inferno consumed a massive transmission station belonging to Transisco Power Company.  “We don’t know the cause of the fire but it started shortly before the rains began. The fire was so massive that even the fire services were unable to bring it under control,” an eyewitness said.
It was also gathered that efforts of the Lagos State Fire Service (LSFC) at taming the fire was unsuccessful forcing the team to withdraw after 30 minutes. The heavy downpour also could not stop the inferno which eventually subsided around 3pm.

1,074MW drop in Power generation

The poor supply of electricity being witnessed across the country currently is as a result of a significant drop in power generation from a peak of 4,517 megawatts attained on December 21, 2012 to 3,443MW on Tuesday.
The 1,074MW drop is, however, a slight improvement over the 2,987.6MW peak generation recorded on April 6, 2013, when a whopping 1,529.4MW was lost.
The drop in power generation, our correspondent gathered from the Ministry of Power, was as a result of low gas supply to thermal power plants.

Nigeria in addition to Culture-Based Incidental Power

Guidance is an issue that affects all of humankind. But, visionary as well as true leaders usually, are hard to find. Not only are we impacted by this phenomenon, but we are also called to exercise it.

Whether we are bracketed in leading geopolitik or business, guiding innocent minds, leading a family tree, a sports team committee, organising a tv dinner, a class project, a carpool or a household, or just standing for what is best at every turn of man endeavour -the public has a presidentship role to take the part of. In other words, we are each called upon to be custodians of what is preferred and good, lasting and of financial worth, for those in our care at one point of time or another.

Power: Labour, FG set for fresh showdown over privatisation

THERE are strong indications that a fresh crisis is brewing between organized labour and the Federal Government over the planned privatization of the assets of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.
Already, both parties are singing discordant tunes that have begun to heat up the system and threatened industrial peace in the Power sector that appeared to have been restored after the Federal Government and labour reached agreement late last year on the contentious terminal benefits for workers ahead of the privatization of PHCN’s assets.

Sweden: The Country That Imports Wastes To Generate Power

'
When it comes to keeping wastes out of landfill sites, Sweden leads the way in the world. It recycles what could be reused and bums what can be safely incinerated to provide power for a quarter of a million homes. Sweden however faces a big problem, and the problem is that Swedes are too environment-conscious and therefore aren’t throwing away enough waste to feed the incinerators.
