Lagos committed to quality grass-roots health care – Fashola



Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said his administration was creating a robust grassroots healthcare.
Fashola spoke during the inauguration of a second comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area.
The governor, who urged residents to maximise the use of the centres, said PHC facilities in the state had been redesigned to operate a comprehensive 24 hours service to boost grassroot healthcare.
He said, “These new PHCs are designed to make cases of malaria, ante-natal and child delivery a local affair while difficult cases which the PHCs cannot cope with will see such patients referred to general hospitals and teaching hospitals.”

Fashola Denies Assaulting Morka’s Driver, Children In Traffic Incidence



The Lagos State Government has denied reports alleging that Governor Babatunde Fashola ordered his police escorts to manhandle the driver and children of the Executive Director of the Social and Economic Rights Action Centre (SERAC) Felix Morka, during a traffic incident on Tuesday.
In a statement, the government spokesman, Hakeem Bello said “the premise and the content of the message are completely false.”
Explaining what transpired on that day, the statement said “On the aforementioned date, at around 3pm, the Governor was returning from a Security meeting at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS) through CMD Road in the Magodo area when his convoy and other road users got blocked by a man who had driven his Jeep with Registration number KU 549 KJA against the flow of traffic. The identity of the owner was later established to be Felix Morka.

Fashola inaugurates panel to probe banger fire



Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has constituted a tribunal to probe the December 26, 2012 fire and explosion at the Giwa and Okoya areas of Lagos Island.
Fashola said on Monday that the inauguration of the panel represented the commitment of his administration to the protection of lives and property of Lagosians.
The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Sunday Ishola (retd.) is to, among other terms of reference, inquire into the remote and immediate causes of the inferno which occurred when fireworks, allegedly stored in a building at No. 45 Ojo-Giwa Street, Idumota, Lagos, exploded.

Eagles Enjoyment Galore: Fashola splashes N59m on Eagles



The Lagos State government yesterday hosted the victorious Super Eagles at the Lagos House, Alausa where the state governor, Babatunde Fashola doled out a total of 59 million Naira to the team in appreciate of their winning the African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
The chief coach of the team, Stephen Keshi got N2.5m; Daniel Amokachi N2m; the four assistant coaches got N1.5m while the captain of the team, Joseph Yobo was rewarded with N1.5m. The other 22 players got one million naira each. The 11 back room staff got the sum of N15m while the Nigerian Football and other Sports Supporters Club were given N4.5m naira.

Jonathan Lacks The Knowledge To Tackle Nigeria’s Problems - Fashola




Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has declared that President Goodluck Jonathan-led federal government lacks the requisite knowledge and capacity to tackle Nigeria’s problems, saying that there is the need to effect a change at the centre in 2015 for the country to achieve positive development.

Fashola, who stated this during an exclusive interview with a team of LEADERSHIP editors in Abuja yesterday, was giving the rationale behind the ongoing merger talks by his party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) towards dislodging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the centre in 2015.

Only Lagos Can Survive Without Oil – Fashola



Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says Lagos is the only state that can survive if crude oil supply – the mainstay of Nigeria economy - is shut down.Fashola explained that this was possible because the government in the state had made it a policy to implement the laws on taxation to the letter, which allows it to have funds for capital project.He spoke on Thursday during the state’s sixth Taxation Stakeholders Conference in Ikeja.

Lagos light rail’ll be ready in June – Babatunde Fashola





The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said the first phase of the state Blue Light Rail project would be completed by June this year(2013). 
He expressed confidence that Lagosians would start enjoying the services of the lrail project immediately.  The first phase would run from Marina and terminated at Okokomaiko area in Ojo Local Government. Fashola spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in the state which took him and his cabinet members to Orile-Iganmu, Alimosho and Ejigbo areas among others to assess the level of works being done by contractors.

Fashola Arrests Policeman Riding ‘Okada’ On Express Way





Governor Fashola earlier today ordered the arrest of a policeman riding a motorcycle on Lagos/Abeokuta expressway.  The governor spotted the policeman when his convoy was passing on the Ikeja section of the expressway. Policemen in the governor’s convoy effected the arrest and immediately whisked him away in their van.

Hunger Strike: Ex-banker Suspends Indefinite Action As Fashola Wades In






LAGOS—Barely two weeks after embarking on an indefinite hunger strike to protest non-payment of his terminal benefit,  Mr. Olubiyi Odunaro, a 53-year-old former employee of Hallmark Bank Plc., yesterday, suspended his hunger strike. Odunaro, had commenced the indefinite hunger strike on November 12 this year in protest against the non-payment of his terminal benefit as well as that of over 14,000 of his colleagues who were also affected.

We Are At War!!! OBJ Vs Fashola




A ‘cold war’ appears to brewing between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, following the confiscation of a utility vehicle belonging to Obasanjo Farms.


This is coming as the protest against the Lagos State Road Traffic Law by commercial motorcyclists (popularly called Okada) Tuesday spread to other parts of the metropolis, leaving at least one bus belonging to LAGBUS Asset Management Limited damaged.
