Sack letter over freedom of association at Nnamdi Azikiwe University



 House Officers at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State are increasingly being threatened to getting sacked by 4pm today over joining the Association of Resident Doctors in the state. Management of NAUTH yesterday April 1 posted a notice telling doctors they'd only 24hours to rescind their decision to participate the association or risk the withdrawal of the internship programme.

Rev Okono Joseph of St Peter’s Parish of Owerri Catholic Diocese in Imo State, was arrested with 20 others for buying two boys (three and four years) at N900,000. The children he sold ranged from N450,000 to N750,000 depending on the s3x of the child. A male child attracted higher prices.The Rev said he was involved in only two deals which fetched him only N46,000 interest

Lagos Alerts Public On Measures Against EBOLA Virus Disease



Lagos State Government has stressed the need for members of the public to observe and maintain high standard of personal and environmental hygiene at all times as part of the precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of Ebola Virus disease in the State.
The call came after reported cases of Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in some of the neighboring West African countries like Guinea and Liberia

Based on a Punch report, a policeman mounted on the Plateau State Police Command was dismissed yesterday from the police after being found guilty of luring and r*ping a 4-year-old girl identified as Helen.
 
Around 9pm on March 26th, corporal Damudu Bzibu (pictured above), allegedly lured the litttle girl and r*ped her in Kassa Barakin Ladi Local Government Area.

No Indigent student will be Denied Education in Lagos State. Gov. Fashola



Lagos State Government has offered to help any new student of the State’s University who stands the risk of losing his/her admission as a result of indigene and any current student who may have problem coping with the fees due to the same reason.

The government explaining its principle of “No child must be left behind” said, it has since the introduction of new fees regime in the Lagos State University three years ago consecutively doubled its budget for scholarship for its residents to enable indigent students have access to education. This is in addition to providing bursary award to all indigenes in higher institutions across the country.

2 Female Presenters Bare It All On Live Television



 Two female presenters shocked their viewers on Monday after taking off their clothes on live television. The co-hosts, Sherri Shepard and Jenny McCarthy of co-hosts of the television talk show ”The View” surprised their viewers because they turned things up a level by taking off their tops, while they continued reporting the news. The audience, however, did not seem to mind because they cheered loudly.

About 300 female inmates escape as earthquake hit Chile



About 300 inmates escaped from a women's prison in the city of Iquique, and officials said Chile's military was sending a planeload of special forces to guard against looting, AP reports.

PDI, one of Chile's two police branches, said at least 16 prisoners attempting to escape have been recaptured.

Defection: APC asks CJN to sanction judge



The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, to sanction Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja  for engaging in mischief capable of bringing the  Bench into disrepute.
The party accused Ademola of going beyond “the reliefs” sought by the ruling  Peoples Democratic  Party  in its suit by restraining  its lawmakers  from engaging in any act that could lead to a change of leadership in  the House of Representatives.
It, however, said in a statement by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that  it was wrong for anyone  to insinuate that Ademola  ordered   its lawmakers who defected from the   Peoples Democratic Party to vacate their seats in the House.

Wealthy Nigerians to buy ₦ 448bn private jets



At least 12 brand new private jets ordered by Nigerians and some corporate bodies will be delivered to the country this year.
This is an offshoot of the projection by private jet manufacturers to deliver 70 brand new private jets to the country within the next five years.

4 Boko Haram Suicide Bombers &15 Civilians Killed While Targeting NNPC Maiduguri



Fifteen civilians have been killed and 17 others injured after a suicide attack in Maiduguri, Borno state by suspected Boko Haram militants, the military said.

Chris Olukolade, Defence spokesman said one of the victims was a member of a civilian vigilante group and that the blast, on the outskirts of the capital of restive Borno state, Maiduguri, destroyed eight vehicles.

“Six of the terrorists died while one has been arrested,” he added in a statement.

Etisalat Nigeria Dumps Over 2000 Staffs Nationwide




Telecommunications company, Etisalat Nigeria Friday sacked over two thousand permanent staffs across the country. The sacked workers were paid off our source say.

The Telecom operator seeks to hire adhoc staff to run the operations of the company as the company is said broke and can no longer retain the permanent work force.

Most of those sacked have expressed surprise and disappointment over the development which has thrown them into the already saturated unemployment market.

An Ikeja High court today denied suspected fraudster Fred Ajudua's bail application and has ordered that he be remanded in Kirirkiri prison. Ajudua had sent applications for bail to seek medical attention outside the prison.

What a heartbreaking mugshot. A homeless single mom, 35 year old Shanesha Taylor, who struggled to make ends meet is in jail after she left her two sons, a 2 year old and 6 month old in her car while she continued employment interview.

The Scottsdale, Ariz. native was arrested after she left her young sons in a hot SUV that was locked with the windows cracked as she went for a job interview at an insurance company. A passerby heard Taylor’s youngest child crying and called police. When they arrived, Taylor returned to her car 45 minutes after police got to the scene, and when police arrested her, the two boys were reportedly “crying and sweating profusely.” Taylor told police that she was homeless and needed the work, and because she couldn’t find someone to watch her kids, she had to take them with her. This event occurred on March 20. .....

SSS accuses CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, of sponsoring terrorism

 A new twist has been added to the ongoing travails of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Lamido Sanusi, as the Department of State Security Service, SSS, has accused him of financing terrorism.

The SSS stated this at the Federal High Court, Lagos, while defending its decision to seize Mr. Sanusi’s international passport.
Mr. Sanusi’s passport was seized on February 20, as he arrived the Lagos international airport, hours after he was suspended as Central Bank Governor by President Goodluck Jonathan.

D'banj threatens to drag UK Daily Mail to court for labeling him a 'legendary womaniser'



Music superstar D'banj has threatened to sue UK tabloid, Daily Mail for describing him as a'legendary womanizer'in a write-up they wrote 2-3 weeks back about Kenya Moore and her fake African prince. (Read it here). 
 
Speaking exclusively with Encomium mag, D'banj rubbished the report, saying that Daily Mail goofed. He explained he's discussing along with his legal team with a view to suing Daily Mail for maligning him..

We've now obtained a copy of what the law states and are surprised to see that unlike what some individuals think, what the law says only becomes effective on the 17th of August 2014, which will be 6 months after the Governor signed.

University of Abuja students protest lack of water, power



Students of the University of Abuja on Monday protested the lack power and water supply to the permanent campus site of the university.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that more than 1,000 students gathered on the campus about 8am on Monday and barricaded road leading to the Senate building and classes.

Some of them told NAN that the protest became necessary because the school authorities had not provided power and water at the campus for three months running. Continue...
